Church leaders knew my dad was cheating on my mom for years and were "counseling" him through it but he only got excommunicated when she found out, after he had been with hundreds of women and she contracted three really horrible diseases from him. I went from "inactive" to "ex" when i told my bishop of my husbands abuse and he told me i needed to repent and obey my husband. Abuse isn't just covered up, it's justified/encouraged. I went inactive for being ostracized when a former stake president bragged about beating his children to put the fear of god in them and to physically force them to go to seminary even if they didnt want to, and taught that as what parents need to do in a class. I spoke up about how wrong that was, and was told by others i was "apostate" because i spoke against a "leader" of the church. So the mormon church teaches to beat women and children. not ok.

From my translated reading of the law in Denmark, all citizens are mandated reporters of any abuse that children may be exposed to within what is called their circle of trust. The first layer of that circle is the family. So, any abuse to or by anyone in the family must be reported, and there is no exemption for church officials. That explains why he only pleaded to the occurrences before the church became aware of it, in an effort to avoid the church officials from being charged. My opinion is the church pressured him and maybe her not to implicate the church.

Oh my goodness this story sounds so horribly unique but guess what? I live in SLC and this happened to a LDS family in my neighborhood. The son SA his mother on a weekly basis and was put on the official sex registry with no jail time. The mother was told she needed to report this to the police for an arrest and subsequent jail time, but guess what happened instead? The husband locked her into a bedroom where she could not get out until he returned home from work each day. They were terrified that their Mormon neighbors would find out. She finally divorced her husband and that is when I met her and she told me her story. Her son still roams free because she will not report him. I never thought I would ever hear a story even remotely like this one yet here we are. Were LDS leaders partially responsible for this situation? Without going into detail, because it is too complicated and convoluted, the answer is YES.

In Australia bishops have to report things to the legal authorities or they and the church get a $10,000 fine each. All members in leadership positions have to have police checks. This however doesnt mean abuse cant or wont happen or be covered up. I have met all to many abuse cases in every ward ive been in (in Australia). I'm also a maditory reporter anyway because i have had jobs in aged care and disability. However, i had to report abuse (police checks only stop those who are convicted, not unconvicted). I hope the lds church will fully address the issues so we can all move in a better direction. Im not against anyone, but i am for people making good choices. This is a good episode, Nemo.

The suffering of Kiran must've been terrible to endure. Hard enough dealing with her husband, in addition to the nepotism and lack of proper action needed from church leaders. Her husbands lack of full admission is by far an act of unrepentance, hoping for a lesser prison sentence. So sad that this very serious issue is endemic within Mormonism, referred to by the top church leaders who say the right things about it in conference speeches but by the time it's filtered down to ground zero of abuse cases it morphs into a C.Y.A [cover your arse] scenario for the reputation of the Mormon church whilst the sufferers are left floundering.

MY INACTIVITY CONSIDERATION BEGAN WHEN I LEARNED MY 1ST HUSBAND, SEXUALLY ASSAULTED OUR OLDEST DAUGHTER FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. SHE WAS DEPRESSED, AND SUICIDAL FOR A NUMBER OF YRS. My father-in-law also sexually abused more than one of his daughters. He visited prostitutes. Both men were lds priesthood holders. My mother-in-law provided pics to church leaders of her husband with a prostitute (sent to her thru the mail). Leaders brushed it aside stating he wasnt holding an important position (he was ward chorister). When I substantiated my daughter's abuse with RCMP and doctors, leaders accused me of being UNCHARITABLE, and took some of my church privileges away. They accused my daughter (upon her graduating from nursing school) of FALSE MEMBER SYNDROME. I knew the abuse had taken place because the RCMP secretly allowed me to overhear her time with them, and her comments closely reflected his STYLE of sexual conduct with me. There is so much more I could say, but

The Bishop should be a safe place to go to confess sins and get help, the Bishop should not be providing that help, he needs to be a median to actual professional who can help. The LDS church NEEDS to fix this. I have seen too many Bishop act as phycologists, addiction specialists, financial planners, and family therapist. The main problem is that the Church claims to be perfect, directed by God himself, with real prophets, with the Holy Ghost instructing members and leaders directly. So, any problem, even minimal, is a major issue and not acceptable. Or the church start to claim to be just a church, or a club or an organization, or else, it’s expected from it what it claims to be, the kingdom of God, spotless, perfect, with an all-knowing, all-powerful being over it.

Clergy will never go wrong by victims operating as mandatory reporters. A military Chaplin friend noted for me how he can actually be court martialed if he directly reports crimes confessed in confidence- according to USA UCMJ. The US cases I am aware of with LDS Bishop's have a similar attitude in their attempt to help the criminal who reaches out to religious authority. Religious leaders will privately tell the perpetrator they should turn themselves in to local authorities but not violate that clergy privilege, even if there may be a danger to children or spouse. But there's the really deplorable part of the equation. The perpetrator has control of the narrative. He can say one thing to leaders & turn around and gaslight spouse & children claiming forgiveness granted by religious authority. Religion actually creates a safe haven for Abusers. Until Mormonism embraces mandatory reporting this garbage will continue.

In 1972 my sister was forceably raped by a neighbor. According to the teachings of the church she confessed to her bishop in Utah. The bishop told her she was in "danger of being excommunicated." She was then placed on punishment where she could not take the sacrament and had her temple recommend taken away. She spent years trying to get her "membership back in good standing" when she was NOT at fault for the rape. The rapist was never punished or reported to proper authorities. After the incident mormon men referred to her as a "used piece of bubble gum" that no man would ever want. (because she wasn't a virgin!) This brought to light that if you are not a "virgin" you could not marry a mormon man in the temple. My sister later committed suicide.

You’ve reached a new low, and this video is a cheap shot at the Church! It implies systemic abuse within the Church, or more so in Denmark. Abuse exists in any organization, regardless of structure, beliefs, or country. Statistics show that on average, 25-30% of all organizations experience some kind of abuse. The family unit is the number one setting that has the most violence and abuse anywhere. Haters of the Church love to claim that rampant sexual abuse exists within the Church's and even more so within the Boy Scouts of America of years ago. But the lowest abuse rate is as low as 5%. BUT I believe 5% is still too high for abuse in any organization, let alone in the Church. Until we're all perfect people, I don't know if this number will ever go down to zero. But we need to push forward and try. Cheap people produce cheap videos recounting stories of hallway elevator talks about people who know people who allegedly committed these acts, implying a serious church problem. However, we lack the full context and even the existence of these individuals can be questionable. Nemo pretends to possess all the facts while sitting on the righteousness and judgmental high horse.

Many members who have been here, now exmembers, know youre speaking truth Nemo, thank you. Angry members now who watch you? Either know & ignorant or are completely blinded to the fact that this exists in the church, thinking that the teaching of their gospel will just erase the problems away! Glad i found out the truth, left 8½ years ago. Best decision i ever made in this life! ❤

Children come into parents rooms at night- if all of a sudden the door is locked some kind of explanation would have to be given. As to reporting to the police it’s a “they said/she said” situation, and as far as I can tell the church never told her not to report to the police. Your report of this documentary in a language that is foreign to you is far too vague to use it as evidence of systemic sexual abuse within the church. I think the church readily admits there are weirdos among us. I think you're more describing a problematic husband than a systemic issue in the church. You have no details about the status of their relationship. Partner rape is more difficult to process most likely and perhaps the wife was having difficulty processing the experience and that came across in the ecclesiastical counseling. There are so many details you don't give. Was she getting physically battered? Was the husband having fantasies about nonconsensual sex that didn't include physical violence. In many cases, the church has little and sporadic contact with the perpetrators. I'm not saying there is no way there could be some kind of systemic abuse within ecclesiastical institutions. I'm saying with the evidence you give, you're pointing fingers where there's no solid evidence to know what the truth is.

It helps to understand the role and conditioning of women in the church. Many do not want to ‘cause trouble’, and have been trained to be ‘a help meet’ to their husbands. She may have been afraid of retaliation from member relations on his side as well as the community. In a church where your activity is closely connected to your alleged ‘eternal salvation’. Not to even go into the trauma! When abuse cases are uncovered in the uk, to save those already victimised from becoming a target further, the police make the report as its been found that the victims often are threatened by the abuser to withdraw theirs.

"Going to the police" is not nearly as effective as everyone seems to think. My daughter did. They did nothing. Many of them were friends of the abuser. Corruption and terrible attitudes toward abuse are everywhere in our culture. Abusers say, "If you go to the police, they won't believe you and they will punish you because they are my friends," and way too often, that's exactly what happens. The family court system is often horrendously cruel to abuse victims. Judges are not wise in this area. This is very much compounded in areas where LDS church members are the police and the judges, which was in part true for my daughter. Until wife and child abuse becomes an enormous focus of public outrage at every possible level, it's not going to change. Videos like this must continue. Like it and share it widely.

This is a disgusting video and frankly should be absolutely ashamed that this content is being used to gain money and notoriety. The fact that actually the teachings and practices of the church is explicitly against such abhorrent acts and that churches are trying to stop and prevent this by teaching true principles of the gospel of Christ - just makes this all the more ridiculous that the evil acts of abusers is being pinned on the church of Jesus Christ. As someone who works with people who have been abused, these are the acts of evil and is very much the opposite of what the church and the gospel of Christ teaches and warns against. Whilst on the other side, MAPs (‘minor attracted persons’ -the actually abusers themselves) have an 2SLGBTQIA+ flag and are proud of it. You can do much good nemo! - at the core you can see you are someone wanting to do good and can do this by using your energy and talent to fight against the actual abusers and real enemy.

Martin - I am appalled that you are permitted to work with abuse survivors. Someone (you) who is horribly misinformed and biased, has no place in the psychology/sociology/therapy/counseling space. You wrongly conflate LGBTQIA+ organizations with a pedophile promoting one - just because they (MAPs) have a flag that mimics another group’s (LGBTQIA+) flag, you assert MAPs is accepted by the LGBTQIA+ organizations?!! That’s utter nonsense. No queer organization acknowledges or accepts MAPs/minor attracted persons. You are completely ignorant about what your own church’s protocol is for dealing with sexual abuse (and other forms of abuse). The hotline that bishops are instructed to use goes to their lawyers at Kirton and McConkie. The main concern in these phone calls is determining if the state (in the USA) is a mandatory reporting state for ecclesiastical leaders. If it is not, then the bishop is not only encouraged to NOT report but told that if they do report, the perpetrator can sue them (the Bishop) personally (as well as the church). Faced with potential financial ruin from being held liable for divulging privileged information (penitent privilege) Bishops don’t report. THIS IS EVIL. It is EVIL to protect the reputation and financial assets of the Mormon Church over the victims (many of whom are children). I’ll give you a homework assignment - how many years more was a child (MJ) in Bisbee, AZ, abused after the predator/father (Paul Adams) confessed to his bishop?

This comment us somewhat disgraceful, the commenter should be aware of the deliverate actions of LDS church leaders in persistently protecting "MAP"s in their membership and making zero efforts to protect children from their predation, but many efforts to protect church funds from being accessed for compensation, Adam Paul Steed is a hero they did everything in their power to destroy. Nemo too has worked diligently with members I uk to ensure LDS youth are protected from potential abuse while the church resisted and in USA continues to deny this is an issue.
@martinlovesthailand

@@whitesalamander yes I did - and used to watch with a different lens but realised how skewed and negative that lens was to blame the church rather than actually blaming the one who did the abuser - if the church taught that this was a good thing then that would be worth the witch hunt, but it is very much the opposite. The church teaching is to teach purity and chastity, which includes going beyond abuse to include no pornography and even anything that resembles that. So to blame the church for the abhorrent actions is as ludicrous as blaming nemo for any such act of a subscriber!

Time and time again, victims are silenced, neglected and the predator is allowed to continue his SA and child SA. The Mormon church protects predators and offers them legal protection while protecting themselves. The abuse of women and children continues because the Mormon church doesn’t care that they are abused, they only care about hiding the abuse and silencing victims. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹
