Marriage is supposed to have a strong foundation based in trust and respect and anyone in an open marriage is literally building their marriage on a shaky foundation, not to mention that they are fooling themselves, you either want to be with your husband/ wife or not, if you want to be out there fooling around or hooking up with others why marry in the first place, if you don't feel fulfilled with your one person who you are supposed to choose over anyone else then why waste anyones time, not to mention you are risking your own health and wellbeing by being out there with other people and then bringing those cooties to the person you are supposed to care the most about , not to mention is disrespectful and nasty. (specially in todays day with all the stds going around) the only safe s x is with your partner ( number of partners also increase risks of cancers and illness so be faithful to your one person and save yourself from heartache and unpleasant surprises )

Most of these people, were groomed since infancy to get married very young (after highschool/after returning from their mission). From what I've seen, most people that get into relationships out of pressure of any kind(not only religious)while being young, end up trying to get back a part of the freedom they lost and never experimented with, by trying to do open their relationships. The problem is that, the open relationships that work, *start* open. A relationship that started closed\monogamous can't then be opened without either provoking too much emotional pain and getting closed again, or end up in divorce\breakup. I know people in closed and open polyamorous relationships, and they are happy because those relationships started as poly open or closed relationships, while a friend tried to open her long term relationship once and got her and her partner in so much emotional pain that she had to stop to preserve the relationship and their mental health. This without counting that these people are part of a very toxic and discriminatory cult, and that their marriages are supposed to be a certain way, so their concept of marriage and relationship it's not free to interpretation like someone else commented.
