While looking for more info about a property the mormon church is going to build a temple on in Missouri, I found this very interesting video footage from a Planning and Zoning Commission meeting in Springfield Missouri. Let me know your thoughts!!

Not shocked at all of their lack of transparency it's been going on for decades.. It would not be shocking to see retaliation in one form or another from the community. Why the LDS church cannot be honest, forthright and have integrity is beyond me...but if they're setting the example then we all get a get-out-of-jail-free card don't we. Example is everything. Excellent podcast. Thank you.

Thank you so much for the support. When I see the church choose to act this way it is infuriating because as a member I did not get leeway. I was to be perfect and I nearly did myself in trying to be. Meanwhile they are trotting all over the world doing whatever they please with their large hoards of money. If I'd known this was going on...I would have used my meager income to feed my kids instead of dumping it into a corporation with endless resources. They are stealing from the poor to give to the rich.

No surprise. Avoiding discrimination. I lived in an area where neighbors blocked the church from building a chapel in their neighborhood with the concern that it would decrease the value of their property. Not everyone is open and accepting of people not like them.

Doesn’t sound like they were unaccepting. Sounds like they didn’t want their property values going down.

@@GenerallyUnquotable When's it's completed they will complain about the substantial increase in their property values, this has happened before.

@GenerallyUnquotable-gq3ct I seriously doubt any of the temples would drive value down, more likely up, and that drives up property taxes. The area where I reside would be substantially improved by a such a church in the area.

@@RobbinFlowers I agree. I was just responding to the other commenter. However, I have lived in numerous rural areas where people get very angry when their property values go up and they have to pay more taxes. That’s not always a positive selling point.

@@GenerallyUnquotable yeah, it was explicitly what the neighborhood was saying.. they didn't want their property value to go down (it was in a country where Christians are in a great minority). Thus the church has had many problems in the past with increased legal opposition (often from a small number of noisy opposers) and increased legal costs when people know it's them, so I don't fault them in trying to avoid it with NDAs. However, I am of the opinion that they would be better off in the long run being fully transparent, therein fostering good will.

Temples increase the value of the property in the neighborhood, the buildings are beautiful and the grounds are landscaped to perfection, people are welcomed to walk through them and enjoy the beauty no matter what their religion is.
@GenerallyUnquotable
@GenerallyUnquotable Ай бұрын
Some people would be livid to have their property values go up so that’s not always a welcomed change. The “beauty” of the buildings and grounds is subjective so that can’t be part of the argument. And non temple recommend holding members are allowed through only before the building is dedicated. After that they are relegated to the grounds or front waiting room only (unless an accompanying visitors center is built). Even a member who attends church every week but doesn’t have a temple recommend cannot go in and watch their own child’s wedding.

What you see here is the Church being strategic and wise. What difference does it make which church wants to build a church. The LDS church has been persecuted since 1830. It continues to grow and flourish. This neighborhood will love having the Temple in their area, just as every other community that has fought against having a temple in their neighborhood, eventually appreciates all the positives of having a Temple in their area. Not sure why you are trying to portray this as the Church was doing something wrong here. There are many corporations that do not disclose who they are when asking for re-zoning , it is a standard business practice in many situations.

So the residents in the area don't like the church so the church just says it's a church. That's OK, it will look a lot nicer than apartments. What i would find fascinating is who purchased the property and how much did they make selling it to the church and what connection to the church do they have.

It's so bizarre. But they have that perogative. I wonder why not just be proud and say it the citizens can't do anything about it anyway. Kinda shady in a legal way
@annwood6812
@annwood6812 Ай бұрын
Yes. Legal, but religions are supposed to live by laws higher than legality. The church pushes the boundaries to the grey area between legal and illegal. Because they have very low standards for behaviour, unlike the impossibly high standards for their members. They're just super rich Scientologists.

It’s exactly the way Jesus would do it with deception and underhanded dealings…oh wait a minute I mean Satan would deceive everyone like that. Just because you put Jesus Christ in the name of a corporation/church doesn’t mean they act like Christ would.

I often wonder what they tell themselves to make themselves feel good about this. They have the money and resources to find better build sites…and yet.

That happened in Tooele and then they ended up not building. I can see if it’s also happening here.
