That could explain it...or he'd actually done something. That being said, when I was a kid my abusive dad was the branch president. He came home one day and told me to wait in my room because we needed to have a chat. I was terrified. Turns out he was about to conduct my baptismal interview.

@@anitah2404 it was ROUGH growing up. When I left the church I found it particularly difficult to find solace in any type of God character because the only father I'd ever known did not feel safe or loving.

You can't say "crazy dude" in LA? That's crazy, dude. There was so much slang on my mission in Japan that when I let my mom read my journal, I had to provide a slang -> English cheat sheet so she would know what I was saying.

When I was growing up we didn't have a swear jar but if we said "dude" we owed my dad $5. He hated that word for some reason.

The GA convert will likely not have been told about the Temple Ban by missionaries (if they even knew themselves?). Women of African descent were also banned from Temple attendance, so not sure why they called it a 'priesthood' ban. The LDS church leaders and CES tell converts (and BIC members) as little as possible for as long as possible about its real self.

Mormons never had a problem with mormons growing tobacco in the south. Members, adult and teen, missionaries etc. made money from working this crop for the mormon farm owners well into 1990s.
