I'm a little confused about the LDS Changemakers quote. They promote gender equality in the church... but they're excited that a man announced changes to what women are allowed to wear? How is this equality?
@GenerallyUnquotable5 күн бұрын
It's not...but they are still active LDS so they are pushing for equality within the bounds that are set for them by old white men.

We shouldn’t ask why it took so long for women to get garments made for women. Instead we should ask why it took until 1836 for men to get garments. 😂😂😂

As a member I always wondered what kind of garments Jesus wore especially since this was supposed to be the restored Church of Jesus Christ. All the pictures and statues depicted him wearing clothes that today’s garments wouldn’t work with. Just saying.

The CHURCH LOGO shows Jesus dressed terribly immodestly. It's really quite silly. Jesus does not care about your underwear.

@lynaeriding383 - LDS garments are a reminder to us of Christ's Atonement. Christ wouldn't need to wear such clothing to remind Himself of His sacrifice for us because He experienced it and He bares the nail marks in his body as a constant reminder.
@lynaeriding3835 күн бұрын
@@micheleh3851 still none of his apostles are depicted wearing them in any paintings. This all seems very made up to me. I respect sincerely your devotion and commitments to this. For me I have far too many questions that have never been answered. At least not enough for me to have that kind of devotion and acceptance to the temple or any of this.
@micheleh38515 күн бұрын
@lynaeriding383 Hello again. Maybe the Apostles who served with Christ didn't need a special garment to remember Him because they served with Him and knew Him. There aren't scriptures one way or the other about the Apostles' clothing. So any any artwork is up to the artist in the absence of scriptures and photos. The Apostles may have had special clothing that wasn't recorded in scripture. We do know from scripture that Jesus provided coats of skins to Adam and Eve, of which our temple garments are symbolic of Christ covering us and our sins and our spiritual and physical nakedness. As long as there were prophets and the Priesthood on the earth, it is likely people wore special garments to symbolize their covenants with God, just as they do now. We know from scripture that special garments were worn by Priests who served in the Temple during the time of Moses. It's highly likely that Jewish tradition still continued at the time of Christ because Jews still wear those same vestments today. Joseph Smith received revelation about temple ordinances and the garment of the Holy Priesthood, which is why Latter-day Saints wear a sacred garment in our day. When Joseph Smith described Moroni, who appeared to him, he said Moroni was wearing a white robe that was open on top so he could see into his bosom. So that means Moroni wasn't wearing a garment like Latter-day Saints wear now. Maybe Moroni wouldn't need to have a covenantal reminder if he was already in the presence of the Lord.

As an active member, I fully embrace the church’s evolution and changes as I believe we should be focusing on Christ’s simple teachings of loving, serving, forgiving one another, and no judging. I love 2 hour church and hope the change general conference to only have 1 afternoon session on Saturday, and 2 on Sunday still. I’d like an even shorter temple endowment session with better movie, with dinosaurs, and would like BYU to change to Young University, and move away from Brigham, to focus on the youth and their education.

As a never-LDS, I'm baffled by your mention of movies and dinosaurs. Also, why can't each church decide how long their services should be based on the congregation's preferences? Not to mention a church telling people what underwear to wear, and making them buy it from the church.
@micheleh38514 күн бұрын
@@nitastandke5085 - Hello. There are over 35,000 Latter-day Saint congregations worldwide. They all follow the same format so we funtion in unity as one Church and one body, not thousands of separate churches. As a lesser but notable reason, there is often more than one LDS congregation that shares the same building on Sundays and during the week so the congregations need to keep to a certain schedule. As for the underwear, these are part of the sacred clothing that adults wear who go to Temples. Many religions have sacred clothing. Latter-day Saints are not unique in wearing special clothing. Early Latter-day Saints used to be allowed to make their own Temple clothing. As the Church grew and not everyone was a seamstress or tailor, the Church offered the clothing to standardize the color, designs, and make sure the sacred markings were included. The Church's clothing facilities offer all the Temple clothing, not only underwear. Nowadays, people who make the clothing must be members who are Temple participants so they have permission to see the sacred symbols. The underwear, or garments as we call them, represent Christ's Atonement that "covers" us from sin and death. We wear them under our clothing symbolic of Christ making coats for Adam and Eve to cover their nakedness, that an Atonement was necessary, as recorded in the Bible.

@@nitastandke5085 Each congregation can't decide because the top leaders must control everything. There are leaders at the local level but they are bound by the rules of a handbook. The movies and dinosaurs....that's a lot to explain. When members go to the temple they watch a video about the creation of the earth and it sadly doesn't involve dinosaurs. That's the short answer. The underwear is a common tenant of a high demand group. The fact that they then have to be purchased from the church makes it that much more controlling.

As a former TBM in the same Mesa community as the couples in your story, I am not surprised that differences in political ideas caused all these rifts. The belief that you had to vote Republican and only that is very much inculcated within the group. Even though they don't actually say it (for legal reasons) it is very much understood. When I was one of them I believed in it strongly and would absolutely never vote Democrat. Just look the other way and ignore your candidate's crimes. When I came out and left the church and the community, I could start to see how much indoctrination there is within the church. It is horrible. BTW, it was kind of neat to see the temple entrance again. Even though I'm out I still have fond memories of the people that were in my life then.
