As a Warly main, I still find the morning star to be useful. Sure, volt goat chaud-froid is nice, but morning stars don't spoil, and I cba to unwrap the good stuff for a small fight.

Indeed, what if it could be crafted with a gold nugget instead of the horn as well but needed to get struck by lightning in your hand to get charged and attract lighting and make you take no damage from the strike that one time and it could be a one use lightning rod on the ground to get charged

Electric damage in general was an extremely under utilized mechanic ever since it was released in RoG, it's nice that Klei at least made a recipe for Warly that uses it, but that's about it. nice video, glad someone is brining light to a niche but great weapon.

4:52 that is really good tip! Essentially I would not need to bring body armour, miner hat and wouldn't need to drop my backpack to switch to armour. Use only lantern, helmet and morning star. Always have light and always have protection

Not sure if this is something that's overlooked by the community, or a feature that was neglected by the developers, but what ever the case might be, I question the Morning Star possible damage output out on the high sea. This includes the well build shell of Crab king, the ever tasty and bug-eyed Sea Weeds, the horny descendants of whales that are Gnarwails, and the formidable Rockjaw Sharks. I myself never saw the "Wet" status effect on any of the ocean wildlife, which kind of bummed me out a little, though I hope I'm wrong.

Definitely a great weapon and very usefull for the points made in the video, but what i think makes people shy away from this weapon/tool, is its pretty specific use cases. It is technicaly only the best weapon in 1 season in the overworld and 2 in the caves, which is still half the year with it being worse (in my opinion) than the ham bat. Also the cost of the doodads i think is more expensive than the volt goat horn, as one trip to the desert will net you many, but doodads can get quite pricy at times, especially as wurt. Overall still great video jazzy, loving these guides :)

I liked the video! Was a good experience, indeed. Unfortunately though, I just really don’t use the weapon. There’s a few reasons as to why: A) the Ham bat has the morning star bear in terms of reliability, and is also an infinite damage weapon. While I personally think the star is better in spring (and winter in the caves), the Hambat is extremely consistent. Even when stale, you still will slightly outbeat a morning star against a non wet target, at least for awhile. And in DST, having consistent damage output can be a huge boon in a variety of situations, even if other alternatives are stronger. B) the weapon against a non wet target feels a bit underpowered, IMO. 42-43 damage is a low point for a mid-endgame weapon, even if it jumps by 30 damage when a target is wet. Even if spring is a consistently wet season, 20 days out of 70 for reliability is not going to be every situation, so you will eventually be forced to use it as a subpar wigfrid spear, which can be crafted much earlier (although it is character exclusive, which is a decent defense). And as stated earlier, it will take over 5 days for even the ham bat to reach below the average morning star’s damage. If it had ~50 against non wet targets, I would probably use it significantly more often, since 50 is a pretty important damage point you want to consistently hit if you are carrying a weapon. As for Volt goat chaud froid, I don’t feel like it sealed the star’s fate, but it certainly wounded it a good amount. The fact the star’s base damage is barely higher then an axe does not allow it to shine well against literally any other combat oriented weapon with the effects of chaud froid. This is countered by the fact you can’t control its duration unlike the star, which has its ups and downs. Also, not quite related, but chili flakes will improve the star’s damage, raising it to ~88 against wet targets. Overall, it’s not a terrible item, and I can certainly see why people like it. It’s just that in terms of weaponry it falls a bit short compared to others, unless you are using it against perma wet mobs or it’s spring. Although it definitely is a neat conventional weapon for those instances, and even brights up the night for you. One more thing: the weapon, while cumbersome, also possesses non spoiling crafting components, allowing you to make potentially 5 stars if you bring 5 horns with 10 doodads and nitre. While poor for normal transporting, it is a nice thing if you plan on settling somewhere in the caves and want to hunt worms fairly often. Edit: Corrected the stars damage with chili flakes against *wet* mobs. I wish a non wet morning star with chili flakes did 88 damage... on, and the fact I said spicy chili, oops.

Well yea tho it can't replace other top weapons but it can really be resource friendly for some bosses ... and I don't think u should ever use it for non wet targets ... I mean buffing that would make it really op honestly ... my favorite thing about it is the durability tho

imo : the only good use is the one with tentacles but all of the others are not very efficient, a dark sword is way more chiper than a morning star, after somes years when you killed a lot a tree guard and cleared the ruines once or twice you have a lot of nightmare fuel and living log, more than you need.

If you're going to compare a dark sword to a morning star then you should weigh it's total damage potential. Dark sword will deal 6,800 damage then break. A single morning star can potentially deal over 51k damage. That's around 7.5 dark swords. So what's cheaper to you? A volt goat horn and 4 gold, or 8 living logs and 40 nightmare fuel?

I feel like I'm not expressing myself clearly here. Yes, hambats are cheap and infinite durability is awesome, but there are still benefits to using a morning star instead. It will never spoil if not used, the damage is potentially higher and will always be consistent. After three days with a ham bat you're better off with a tentacle spike. Obviously an infinite use weapon is amazing, but that doesn't necessarily make a hambat unequivocally better in every situation, especially versus Toadstool, depths worms, or other wet mobs. As for the Dark sword, are you gonna tell me you can farm 40 nightmare fuel faster than a single volt goat horn? I know exactly how much one costs, and no, they are not cheap in large numbers. They require a significant investment of time spent on spawning/fighting treeguards, then either slowly farming nightmare fuel on the surface or making the journey to the ruins and farming fuel there. If we are focusing on cost of weapons versus a morning star, I think you had a stronger case with the ham bat.

Easy, yes. But it still takes time. I use a ham bat for most fighting situations as well because I hate using dark sword for everyday purposes. And seeing that chest filled with nightmare fuel eventually, I think I lose sight of just how many nightmare creatures had to be killed to collect it all. If I were to start using dark swords more often I am certain that the chest would empty out quickly.

i like to keep a mormimg star in my goat pen, since i play wolfgang and only farm the goats at night i can do 5 hits with a DS while they sleep and quickly change to the morning star for the final hit

Can we take the time to talk about the logic behind shadow creatures. They can get wet which means they are a real thing and not your insanity, but at the same time, only you can see them and no other mob. So, do all of the mobs, other than the enlightenment orb things, have some sort of an agreement on not to kill them? Or is there lore explaining that?

i was more under the impression that most mobs don't particularly have sanity? the survivors lose sanity because the monsters and the world are far different from what they're used to, but for the creatures in the constant, they live there their entire lives. (exception being wurt but that's probably just for game balancing reasons) if we took the constant's creatures to our world, with our bizarre creatures, they'd probably start going insane too? at least, that's what i think of it

The morning star always attracted me, even if I never made it (because I am not a goat killer, I suck a bit with kiting), but I would say that volt goat hot-cold (chaud means hot in french, froid means cold.) is better in every way. My ideal team is: Wickerbottom, Wormwood, Warly and Wolfgang. Wickerbottom can easily kill bee queen, Wolfgang with a dark sword and jellie one-shots shadow creatures, making nightmare fuel farming pretty easy. Also, for a massive farm Warly can rush the ruins without science to get purple gems to make a nightmare amuleth. Then, for the light thing: Warly can make glow berrie soufflé. I am not saying that it's bad, but I prefer the jellie because it's broken, absolutely broken.

It's not honestly if u kill goats regularly since they reproduce rly fast ... u can even get 2 meat from each goat which is rly nice and sometimes even enough to last you for the next goat hunt ... I have 3 herds in my oasis and every time I hunt them I come back with at least 4 horn and 30 meat ... killed bee queen with morning star recently and to be honest this weapon last even more than what I thought ... nice vid btw jazzy as always

Killing four volt goats on average? I mean, yeah it's RNG-dependant but once you get a goat pen set up they will respawn one per day, so you can average a horn every four days.

morning star is a great weapon but there is 1 character who should rather stick to jelly and i think we wll know who she is, aka wanda but anyone othet then wanda makes great use for this weapon, and ironically wendy is great with this imo, abby's damage buff to wendy is great cause of the quick speed but overall morning star is GREAT for toad for sure

I love the morning star, fun weapon. Had a mod once that made it unbreakable once made but had to be refueled like a lamp because yeah, that relying on volt goats thing is/was an issue in DS:RoG because sometimes they wouldn't even spawn in a world on the default settings. Still Hambat for life I'm not super fond of DST's "balancing" though, 8 dark swords for one boss? oof, the DST unique bosses are seemingly impossible to solo to me, and the overall health and damage buff existing creatures got bothers me.

I think the Weapon would see far more widespread use if only it were easier to obtain Volt Goat Horns. Something like a drop rate increase would be nice, or maybe a new item added that takes two Horns which would allow for Staff Duping - but maybe that would be a little overboard.

The 5th use is kind of obsolete now because of the new leafy meat recipes . So it’s easier to have a leafy meat farm going and you can make a recipe that heals ur sanity by 50 like ice cream while being abundant and easy to get
