When I was in grade school in the mid-70's, I noticed Tom T. Hall saying "J.D. Crowe" right before a banjo break in the song "Bluegrass Break Up" on my dad's Tom T. Hall "Magnificent Music Machine" album. I remember being pleased finding "J.D. Crowe" in the song credits when I eventually went searching for it there, confirming what I thought I'd heard Tom say. His name was basically made part of the lyrics, the way Tom announced it, branding Crowe's name into my mind before I even knew who he was. J.D. Crowe is bona fide bluegrass royalty!

There are some still keeping traditional Bluegrass music alive. Check out the the Peterson Family. They hail from Branson, Missouri and are incredible. Also, there's a group of kids in Alabama called the Cotton Picking Kids who play and write traditional Bluegrass music. They're still young but show a lot of promise. By the way, I really love what you guys are doing. The good music and humour along with not being ashamed to show your faith are really needed in today's society.

I had the pleasure of meeting JD twice..My brother told JD he was the man!..JD said "No,Earl is the man!"..My brother replied "You are like Earl on steroids!" JD was very humble and down to earth,a true class act!..His music was a big part of our family's life, my Mom, brother and I all got pictures with him,was one of the biggest highlights of our lives!.Sadly my Mom passed away about 3 months after JD's passing, then a few months later my brother passed away..Was great seeing this interview!.Thank you for doing it!..Take care and God Bless!

Lardo and Burley, what a great show. Never imagined I'd get to see a legend like J.D. Crowe tell his story as completely as he was able to with you guys, especially since you all know so many of the same people. Just great. ron

Bluegrass rules! This was a great show guys! 👍 Love every minute of it. My favorite line was, "I ain't raisin' tobacco, I'm raisin' kids." Sounded like something my Pop would have said. 🤣

J.D. and the Kentucky Mountain Boys had a really strong following of UK students in the mid 60’s. They used to play three nights a week (I believe Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday) at a little bar on N. Limestone St. in Lexington called Martin’s. That place would be jumpin’ when they played.
