TOPIC:-MORPHOGENS AND MORPHOGENIC GRADIENT | |CSIR NET |DEVELOPMENTAL BIOLOGY
In developmental biology, 'morphogen' is rigorously used to mean a signaling molecule that acts directly on cells to produce specific cellular responses that depend on morphogen concentration.
Simple compounds such as retinoic acid (the active metabolite of retinol or vitamin A) may also act as morphogens

Mam thankyou for the video 🤗 l have doubt on the last slide regarding the gradient. If the the source is near, cells shows both low and high threshold target gene! HOW it induce LOW Threshold target gene?, the conc. of morphogen will be high there na?
@WHYANANYA2020
@WHYANANYA2020 4 жыл бұрын
Here low threshold means that the gene will act even if low amount of morphogen is present. High threshold means high amount of morphogen is required for that gene to work. So if high amount of morphogen is present(eg. 10 mmol) then the condition for low morphogen(eg. 5 mmol) is already being fulfilled na that's why Because 10 comes after 5 Hope I could make it clear to u

Ma'am, i didn't get it...p and q placed together , then p develops according to the q specificity, but why not q according to p? i.e. why don't both form kidney cells instead?
@WHYANANYA2020
@WHYANANYA2020 4 жыл бұрын
In this situation, p is placed in the conditions to which q is already exposed, so due to presence in conditions according to q, p will also grow as q

Morphogen is also like a signal but it affects according to its amount Inductive signal can be given by either protein, transcription factors, aa, lipids or carbohydrates So morphogen is a type of inductive signal Inductive signals are a family and morphogen is just one member
