@@bailey125 tbh I think the editing style often makes it harder to understand the narration (the thing where the narrator stops talking and text appears on the screen) and often slows things down a lot. It’s certainly aesthetic and I like it, but it’s hard to recommend to some of my friends. I also admit I don’t really like the vids with 2 alternating stories because there’s no reason to do that in the format and it’s distracting.

Back in the internet's infancy, its main goal was for communication around organizations like universities. It wasn't designed for the entire world to use it. So this meant security was an afterthought. If the internet had been designed around security, we would see a lot fewer attacks. The internet is actually really poorly designed for what it is being used for now. But changing it would be an almost impossible feat because of how massively integrated it already is.

Just look up WannaCry and feast your eyes on what was essentially a nuclear bomb of a worm that went off only a few years ago and was disarmed (after causing a LOT of damage) literally only because a genius computer worker (named Marcus Hutchins) found a website in the code that activated a global killswitch, and thus shut down the worm globally. WannaCry basically collapsed the entire NHS healthcare system in Britain, it probably cause deaths because of that, and just... it just fucked up so many computers lol. The whole story from beginning to end is totally insane. WannaCry only came into existence because a group called ShadowBrokers, who are still unidentified but are probably nation-state backed hackers stole a bunch of top-level NSA hacking tools and tried to sell them online. When they couldn't sell them they released a bunch, one of them being "Eternal Blue", which was basically an automatic root-level hack into ANY Windows machine that ran Windows 7 and lower, and it was so easy to execute a 10 year old could do it. "Eternal Blue" was then transformed into the WannaCry worm which took Eternal Blue and made it travel computer to computer automatically (the definition of a worm), and was made into a ransomware hack (encrypts all your files and blackmails you into paying them to get your files back). This thing spread globally until Marcus Hutchins stopped it by finding a website in the code that when visited, acted as a global killswitch, stopping the worm worldwide. Then after being celebrated as a hero at the world's biggest hacker conference (DefCon in Vegas), Hutchins got arrested by the FBI over some code he'd written like 10 years earlier as a young teenager ( think he was literally like 14-15 years old). But it was bank hacking code, so not exactly light stuff. But the judge on the case basically threw the charges out and called Hutchins a complete and total legendary boss-ass mothafucka for quite literally saving the world, and that the whole world owed him a great debt, and that we needed more people like him in the world doing good. Like I said it's truly one of the craziest stories in history, let alone computer history.

Also, Buffer overrun exploits are not triggered by repeated requests, but by overfilling a space that was designated to have a specific, pre-ordained size - and even then, they are far more difficult to pull off on modern operating systems…there was no social network of any type in those days, unless you count Usenet etc
