Morris Minor - Rust Removal Testing with ToolPro Tools - Part 13

Testing some of the ToolPRO tools I have from Supercheap Auto to see how easy it's going to be to clean up all the rust.

The car is a 1958 Morris Minor 1000 with the 948cc engine. Last WOF was in 1995 and has been parked up ever since.

I learned to drive on a MM here in the states when I was 14. I always loved that car ( my pastor’s). It was a 59(?), blue, two door with left hand drive. What a great car to learn on! Wish I knew what happened to it, or him. 👍☮️

The polystrip discs are great for light-medium rust. I use norton blaze rapid strip discs. 115mm but also do a smaller roloc type for fiddly bits - theyre ace.

Good luck for your project, I did it in my car 3 year's ago but not that much rust in my car just a little in the rear wings normal for a 50 year car, you are doing a good job👌

Get a Corded Angle Grinder when doing work like this, you will use it a lot more and be quicker at doing stuff.

Been watching every build video so far and really enjoying them but what are you going to do with the car after you complete it will you keep it sell it? I think you should keep it and build it up into something interesting like convert it to a 5 lug pattern and buy some cheap boat trailer wheels and put them on it it would look mad I think you have a real gem mate keep up the good work👍🏼

Awesome, thanks for watching 😀 That's a good question... Technically it's not even my car so the future is not entirely in my control. I'm planning to have a big road trip once it is finished which should lots of fun. Modified cars are subject to a certification price in NZ that costs money. The plan will be to get it in the road in standard form then maybe modify it in the future. Cheers

My Makita corded angle grinder is one of the best tools i ever brought. I can't believe how much metal is left on that car. Going to need some welding. Some Dinatrol or some rust converter and some paint though.

A corded grinder sound be a good idea for long grinding sessions. Plenty of rust is ending up in the floor. I've almost got enough to make a Range Rover 😂😂

Have you tried one of those belt finger Sanders? Great for getting into awkward areas. I've seen them used and it's next on my shopping list.

I haven't tried one but might get one to try out. You're right, they might be useful in tight spots

@@Badgertronix They're quite powerful, just don' try to use them on soft timbers! I know someone who tried using one to sand paint off of old doors using 40-grit belts and the doors didn't really like that. Obviously 40 grit isn't all that suitable for that job either.

I fully understand where your coming from, your video's are informative especially the VR6 ones (from a personal point of view) and the sponsorship must be a great help, financially compensating for your time and effort in making the video's, however I just felt the video was just put out to sponsor Toolpro and to be honest it got on my nerves ruining good content. At the end of the day we all have our favourite's and your comment "absolutely ……." in your reply felt a little sarcastic and definitely biased . Bottom line I do like your video's, and introduce your sponsorship perhaps at the beginning and be done with it.

No sarcasm intended, sorry if you felt there was. The purpose of the video was to test out what rust removal tools I have available and get feedback on their effectiveness. These methods were suggested by the audience in the last video. I am supported by ToolPro and I am very proud and thankful of that support. In return I do make mention of them and make review videos which are usually separate. That said, I am not tied to them and if the tools did not serve the purpose I needed I would source them elsewhere. I think the positive review of things in this video just highlighted that I have a decent solution to move forward on this project and deal with the rust. Thanks for watching, hopefully there will be more VR6 content in the near future 😀
