Morrissey - I Bury the Living | Reaction!

Ominous, bold, haunting, and mysterious. This was an adventure of a song. Never afraid to speak his mind, Moz once again sings about soldiers, violence, and war. I laughed at parts just because I don't hear lyrics this real and raw all the time, lol. Also, I forget to mention that "I Bury the Living" is an old horror film, so I wonder if Mozzaroonie took some inspiration from that.

I've never listened to this through headphones before, glad I did as I didn't notice so many of those sounds before in the intro. Love this. I love how it ramps up at the Canon fodder part! Quite intense lyrics. I love how he asks questions in his songs.

These lyrics always remind me of the line from The Girl From Tel Aviv Who Wouldnt Kneel - "What do you think all these armies are for? Just because the land weeps oil." This song is spot on for me; a lot of people who do military service are either looking for somewhere to belong or have a misguided idea of patriotism. The west, unfortunately, has a long history of involving themselves in other countries' business, usually related to money. Its quite sad. RIP Sinead - a lot of parallels to be drawn with M's own career. And we love you simping for the Moz! 💙

LIHS gets a lot of hate but I was in high school when it came out and it got me through my last year of exams. Solid work from Morrissey. Wonderful reaction as always!

Brilliant song. Raw and true lyrics but he still manages to make you laugh with a few lines. It also shows that the issue isn't black and white - he blames the soldiers at first but then acknowledges how they are used as 'cannon fodder' and how their deaths affect families. In his autobiography, Moz mentions the song 'Moratorium' by Buffy Sainte-Marie. This is an anti-war song that clearly compelled him in his early youth (1971, as he dates it). If you get chance, I'd listen to it, because it is as profound as this track, if not more. Interesting, I wouldn't call I bury the living 'mysterious' he just speaks truth, no mystery to it. I like the reference to Jesus. Throughout history, during battles and wars, both sides have often claimed God is on their side, and they will be protected. A sad fallacy, of course. I think he could have been on about John Lennon too, but I think it's the name of a soldier. 'Our' John suggests a family member, the last bit is from a family's perspective. John is a very common name. Also I remember my Nanny (who was alive during WW2) singing a war song about 'Johnny' coming home. I'm not sure if it was 'Johnny comes marching home' - because that seems to have originated in the US, but if it was popular in Britain, it may well have been that one.
