this scene is the prime example of what i like about fictional storytelling, its how you can come up with creative imaginative ideas and make them come to life on the screen for audiences to see the problem is that a lot of movie directors tend to forget that and try to make movies as close to boring real life as possible, to the point to where when someone actually does try to make something creative everyone says its "wierd" and it becomes a flop

Yup. Though I guess an adaptation of a book aimed at tweens makes sense to be a tween-focused movie. Just wish it spent less time establishing how badassed and relatable the characters were and more time with world-building. Potential squandered.

I really don't know why this movie flopped. I thought it was really amazing piece of theatre considering, like always, fact that any movie based on books is inherently flawed. Do people really are THAT uncomfortable with idea that we actually can destroy our civilisation in mere moments? The answer is YES, WE ARE... Also, it just had a bad luck of being emitted at very unfortunate moment, combination of no famous actors (Hugo Weaving being notable exception, plus _AMAZING_ performance of Stephen Lang) , relative non-accessibility of original books (aside from English version, of course), it all made this movie into what is called "flop". It is actually quite sad...

@armorend13343 жыл бұрын
The writing isn't good. It's easy to tell where Tom, Hester, Valentine, and the entire damn story are going. Valentine is just mega evil for no reason. Magnus Crome at least seems justified because he's pushing the "Darwinism" thing even if it won't last. But Valentine doesn't see a chance at peace with Shan Guo because...? It really just felt cliche. Absolutely nothing new is done with Hester and Tom's romance; it happens so quickly, too. The characters just move from place to place without a lot of purpose, seemingly more for setting up big spectacle after spectacle. And the most interesting thing in the movie, this city-eating, is seen ONCE. Of course I don't think the movie is bad. It at least gets a 5/10 for visuals and for playing it so safe with all the writing stuff that I've seen a bunch before. I think the actors are competent in their roles. I will say, I didn't go see this movie when it came out, because it didn't interest me a whole lot. It looked cool but it wasn't a must-see.
@FishMr32 жыл бұрын
The plot of the film is just terrible. They literally make it Star wars at the end, with a "Death star trench run" and an "I am your father moment. They made Hester into some prophecised hero when all she wants is to kill Valentine. None of these things happen in the book. Nor does London survive *at all*. The film makers literally blew up the wrong city just because one of the producers said "oh you can't blow up *London*!" No one's uncomfortable at the idea of ending civilization in film. This one was just a poor effort story wise. Edit: I mean even just "small" things too. Hester is described as *horribly* misfigured due to what Valentine did. As in, missing an eye and half her nose. An injury that completely warps how she sees the world *and* how she is treated by others. And in the film she just has a slightly deep scar on her cheek? Why?

This film had so much potential. I reckon if Peter Jackson was actually directing this film, it would've been alot better. Say what you will about The Hobbit, but at least those films had some interesting characters in them, as well as some well-directed moments in them. This film on the other hand, I literally can't get myself invested in much of the characters in it. That, and most of the time, besides the action, much of this film tends to be rather heavy on exposition.

@@brycepeddicord6763 Haven’t read it, myself. How many books are there?
@Madman13K9 ай бұрын
@@sacredterrador5611 4 books in the original series, 3 prequels set around the time London was just becoming a mobile city. Calling it a kid's book is a bit of a disservice given that it's a considerably darker and more cynical story than the movie itself. Indeed, the movie basically threw out the entire back half of the story in favour of redoing Star Wars. It was a mostly understandable decision, given that the original book doesn't have a happy ending, and it takes pretty much the entire series for things to gradually get meaningfully better in the otherwise messed up world, but in throwing out the original tone they kind of ended up losing the thing that drew many people to the books in the first place. I'd give a solid recommendation to reading the books whether or not you liked the film. Just don't expect happily ever after to happen.

@@Tigerman1138 okay see the amount of fuel needed to keep it moving consumes far more energy than a stationary civilization.
