ok to explain a bit. The guys that appear in the win screen but did nothing? Those guys are this game's form of assist, kameos. Assists in fighting games being a character that comes in with one attack or another action to, you guessed it, assist. So far the kameos that we get are all references to older Mortal Kombat games, hence the name Kameo. Outside of just regular gameplay, they also have a fatality and during fatal blows, they start the fatal blow after which the main fighter finishes it.

Kitana’s fatality where she kisses you and then you dissolve was a call back to her fatality in deadly alliance which is my favorite Mortal Kombat game. As happy as I am to see that fatality come back, I kind of wish they kept it to where the person blows up as opposed to dissolving, but I’m cool with it nonetheless

While it’s not a four player game, it does support two players at once via versus mode and it’s super easy to boot up the cinematic story mode and pass a controller around. The second characters you saw coming out after the fatals are part of the Kameo system. While kameo characters aren't completely playable on their own, they can be tagged in for a moment during a match to do anything from extending a combo to locking the opponent down. It all just depends on the kameo you choose.

And yes, having played the original back in the arcades and seeing it today .... I still remember all of the fuss and complaining about when Mortal Kombat was being released for the Sega Genesis and Nintendo systems .... Nintendo had to have all of the blood be sweat and had to alter some of the fatalities for it to be released on the system. It was much to violent. Sega had the actual blood ... OMG I thought people were going to die. Its that group I would love to go back in time for ... here is Mortal Kombat in the future .... look at all the gore and violence ... and would you believe they had a gay character before in it in a previous one ... all the blood and violence and the gays ... but don't worry, I am sure your kid/grand-kid is going to love it. Yeah ... heads would explode.

I don't like that Mortal Kombat keeps leaning towards disgusting and cruel, rather than violent and awesome I feel like the classic fatalities being shown here showcase what Mortal Kombat should be more like, quick, effective yet creative and violent rather than having to sit through a whole ass cutscene of your character getting cut open, burnt with acid, then giving birth and witnessing the creature they birth proceed to chew on their skull, rip their brain out and then finally squish it between its jaws

Same goes for X-Ray moves, I get that since MK9 they were already ridiculous in the fact that you could just get up from all that, but they're literally just fatalities except with slo-mo takes of the bones fcking turning to dust at the end of every move It's no longer just dislocating their arm, then kicking their jaw loose No, now it's fcking exploding their head, shooting them in the eyeballs, cracking their skull against the ground, stomping their spine into pieces, then having them literally get up, just to have their head broken for the 3rd time, their ribs destroyed, and like all their limbs detached then ending with like an explosion coming from within their pancreas It loses all weight to see the character break their bones if the moves already involve pulverizing their entire skeleton 20 times just as Fatalities lose all the coolness factor when it becomes less of a cool move and more of a LiveLeak video of the opponent suffering and writhing in pain as they're slowly and painfully torn appart before finally getting put out of their misery
