Honestly as a Shang main from mk2 all the way to now i got a bit worried that Quan would ruin Shang. But after playing against many quan chi's i think that Shang is way deferent since you can do much damage with no bar. but quan chi has to spend all of his bar for good damage. Also you can punish quan chi with a full combo if you think that he will open a portal. And the normal projectile trades are worth it most of the time. Also quan chis projectiles dont deal that much damage compared to Shang's. For example Quan's normal projectile with the portal buf deals 114 and Shang's deal 110 for one bar. You get 4% more but you have to open your portal witch is obviously very risky. Plus it is as hard to dodge as shang's DBF 1 using one bar. Although that might change (and it kind of should).EDIT: It's been a while now and things kind of changed. So I still think that Quan chi is very different from Shang Tsung so I was right about that (correct me if I'm wrong). But now after playing Quan for a while I realized that if you play against a good player and you don't know his mix ups you are cooked. So if you don't know Quan has a very good mix up that he does by pressing 4133 wich hits overhead twice but you can do 412 wich is a low but very easy to react and then he can do 41 and cancel into DB 3 if I remember correctly basically the tentacle thing that hits overhead low. So yea..he has good zoning antizoning and mix ups. But I found that his damage is good if you spend all of your materials. And I tried so hard to find meaterless kombos or with no cameo. I ended up searching on yt and found a cool combo with scorpion that opens a portal mid combo but I found that the ender was not optimal and I changed it for 399 DMG but I learned a better but harder kombo for 41 one bar 2 cameos. So yea shang works better for me. Plus I love stealing the other person's fighter and dealing more DMG. I mean with Liu you can do 69 DMG in the corner one cameo.

I agree he feels like a weaker version of Shang but his stand 4 in neutral is very scary for other zoners, I was playing against a Kiana and the moment I saw her wind up a fan I did stand 4 into Sareena it combos from a shockingly far distance.

@louis550 it's alright but in most scenarios you'll be full screen against other zoner and from that distance sareena doesn't combo. Other zoners also have other ways to counter you aswell. Kitana can throw enhanced fan toss which will stall you enough for to win the zone battle. Shang Tsung can launch full screen,especially if he reads you summoning the portal and finally Liu Kang's projectiles are just lightning fast

There are a lot of very easy ways to get the portal out. For one, you could use his bone cage, but that is the weakest of the options I found. Second, you could use frost or Sub-0 and freeze them. The last and best I found is using Cyrax. His net drains meter now and keeps you trapped for like 5 seconds. You can throw the net on them, open the portal, and then start a combo and they just have to take it. Also, we don't fully know how good his damage is yet. People thought Omni Man didn't have that great damage, but like 5 days later we found out he hit like a truck.

Even with sareena the most I've seen without fatal blow is 40 and his normals are pretty slow and the overhead fb is also slow. Shang can just go old ex fireball and get 30% from full screen also disregarding giant skull.its just my 1st impression after using him against a friend though

There’s one thing you missed about the enhanced purple skull, if you hold the square button (1) the opponent is instead dropped where they got hit instead of dropped in front of Quan Chi. That mean you can effectively zone out the opponent and drop them where they were without approaching

I feel like he'd be absolutely horrifying with Cyrax because of the patch. If he gets that net on you, he gets a freep portal summon, and then he could start combos up again with you being unable to block or combo break.

I think he's also the only character that can make use of Cyrax is bomb when Cyrax runs in front of you since quanchi can kick you in the back maybe some teleporters but I always was like what good is this cameo but it can work with Quan chi

The only problem she really has I mean he struggles a little on neutral well he's not bad on neutral but his pokes are not good and once you're in on his ass you really can't do s*** but get lucky my buddy plays can she and I feel like there's nothing I can do once can she is like a sweep away he can bat dash all his pokes maybe you know it's just rough can't she has a lot of bad matchups with high tier but his worst match is probably Kenshi the dude can run through fireballs so if you call portal he just f****** can run through it

Only complaint i have with Quan is his low frames on upstart. When pressured by guys like Cage or Raiden. Good luck recovering except for armor special. Other than that yes his damage is indeed lower but not bad or anything. Hes a very fun char to play as.

Constant mix ups, anti zoning and multiple 40-55% strings, absolutely overwhelming and overpowered. He's strong at range, he's better than Shang in that regard but Shang is better close despite the unsafe 50/50s Quan Chi has, Shang has the higher no bar combo damage and is the only character able to full combo you at range as a punish for a bar something Quan Chi gets if he punishes your projectile which is unlikely as its hyper slow and has the realm open. Also Shang can just shape shift into Quan Chi at range and he has harder hitting zoning if he spends the bar meaning in the match up he'll shread Quan Chi badly.

I even just recently started using the record feature in practice so I my dummy will actually throw. Like there’s kameo throws which is countered by 2 and 4 I believe. Then your standing throws are countered by 1 and 3? Im more asking than telling. I just can’t stand getting thrown any longer. Also the real juice is this. There’s a typo in task 9/13 in blocking and throws tutorial. Xbox.

Lot of weakness in close kombat unfortunately… poke of 9 frames it means that you will lose every poke battle even if you should be in advantage. I mean, if ur opponent poke, then you counter poke. The opponent will have the time to guard and then counter poke to hit you. It’s a non sense comparing to others characters. He should have a poke of 7 frames like others. Also is anti air is very bad. He is clearly a mi-long distance character but if you are in a close kombat vs limei or JC. It’s becoming really difficult. No poke game

All of his projectiles are extremely slow!! Not to mention, he has to spend two bars for the enhanced tentacle grab, which is also extremely slow, and doesn't do much damage at all. Lets also talk about his field of bones move, which is also extremely slow, is barely on the screen long enough to even trap anyone in it, and you cant even combo the opponent if you do manage to trap them in it lol he also has the absolute slowest down 1 in the game, which is almost unusable against every other character in the game and hes not even a grappler smh. Cyrax's net holds the opponent for way longer and for waayyyyy less and it drains their meter. Plz do an updated video on "plz buff Quan Chi"

Well, he is mostly safe but it doesn’t give any move/hit advantage since the frame data of his moves are either neutral or borderline punishable for some characters with fast normals. I think A is probably where he stands because what he does is ridiculous in the right way but being held back by zero hit advantages without a good kameo follow up and actually has a similar issue to Havik with no good reversals as far as I know when played him for awhile yesterday. That said, I am having a shit ton of fun playing this guy on this game vs any other version of Quan Chi.

All his moves are extremely slow, low damage, expensive 2 bar launcher, zoning in this game is the worst it's ever been, gaps in most of his strings so being safe means nothing if you get poked before the string finishes, the absolute worst poke game in the last 3 MK games of any character, 900 health is terrible in a game where two hits could mean death. I could probaly name more but his zoning and slight mix up does not make up for the other drawbacks. No he doesn't need to be top tier but they clearly nerfed him in areas that he didn't need because they were scared he would be OP.
