There is a limit regarding what you can do with a hardware that is almost a decade old now. And if you just play it on the portable screen of the Switch, well.... I am sure that you couldn't see any details in textures. For the docked mode - yeah.... but what do you expect? I mean: if you drive a Volkswagen Beetle, you cannot possibly complain that it doesn't perform as good as Porsche or a Ferrari! Actually.. since you mentioned that you think that it looks "like crap". What other 3rd party games on the Switch do you reference? I mean each and every game had to be lowered regarding character models and resolution. But that's the price to have to pay if you want to play something on a portable console, which still fits into your pocket and with the batteries holding at least for 4 ot 5 hours.

Yes! Your video shows that the developers did a great job improving the Switch version of MK1. I think it's now on par with what they did way back with MK 11. (Which in itself is impressive, since MK 1 is much more technically advanced!) Still your video also shows exactly what I always stated: the management decided to publish a game that was about in its 'Beta' state. Granted, it was playable... but.... They did that for MK11 when the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S were released. People who own the PS4 or Xbox One version of MK11 will automatically get the next-gen version for free. I expect they will do the same for MK1 when the Switch 2 comes out.

It may not be a very popular opinion but I think whoever did the porting doesn't deserve much credit, yes it looks good now but it should have been released like that, they are just correcting the initial bad work they did. Still better than not improving it of course.

Don't blame the developers, blame the management! They obviously forced the developers to release an unfinished product. I mean - think about your current emplyoer! You employer is in control, and your employer decides! The developers didn't have anything to say in that decision - but like you also said: in the end they managed to produce a good game. I'm also working in IT (fortunately not in the gaming industry) and I've also experienced this situation some times. There was on occasion where I was working for a major global telco company, and there was a major release. The lower managers for development and testing reported that there were still more than 1600 bugs in the software, but the upper management decided to release it anyway the next week. (Oh, and before you ask: yes! it turned into as much shit as you think. Probably even more!)

I have the Nintendo switch version of MK 1 and I love it. The game looks soooo much better now. It took basically 1 year for it to look this good though. But what's crazy was that that charged $70 for MK 1 on the switch and it was no where near finished. I remember I only had the johnny cage condo map. I had to wait like 2 months just to get the other maps. All in I'm glad I bought MK 1 on my Nintendo switch. I paid $70 bucks but now it turned out to look great. Great video! 🎮🎮

It really is impressive just how much they managed to improve over the course of a year here. I understood how much of a talk it was putting something like this on the Switch when it was made for newer gen consoles but overall, this was something that really should've been delayed another few months instead of releasing it alongside the other platforms. Glad it was put on Switch, but still. Let this be a lesson for developers to learn for the future.

With the lastest patches, I think that both games are more or less on par. The question which one looks better is difficult to answer. First of all the whole design of the two games are completly different - so while one might prefer the MK 11 character design, the other might prefer the MK 1 one. What makes it more difficult, is that the character designs in MK 1 are all over the place... Some like Reiko or Peacemaker look absolutely great, whereas others look really weird. But ok... I'd say: if it is in handheld mode, then MK 1 looks better, and in docked mode MK 11 lookst better. But it's not that much of a difference, really!

They will eventually fix the Cyrax fatality. However, I don’t understand how this bug still exists. It has been present since day one, and it’s been a year already. They fixed the visual issue, but not the audio. Many people have continuously informed them that this bug isn’t fully resolved on their bug reporting site, yet for some reason, they just leave the problem unaddressed.

To be fair, the game did look and perform quite poorly at its initial launch, so I won’t blame IGN for showing that. However, what IGN did wrong was showcase bugged gameplay without informing the audience (there was a bug on the Switch version at that time that caused everything to lose texture), misleading people into thinking those blurry images were how the game was supposed to look. And of course, they never made any video about the updated visuals and performance.

To be fair to switch here its not all the switches dated techs fault. These updates prove the game could have launched much better so blame WB for rushing NRS releasing the game including this port. Even the other versions had serious issues with the servers, glitches etc. What I'm hoping is super switch or switch 2 whatever has that option to let devs update, upscale older games because MK would be a great candidate for that. The switch version can only be pushed so far at this point being 7 year old tech but Switch 2 I have no doubt it would look and play as well as the other versions if optimized correctly.
