Soulcalibur dead? Never! The soul still burns and the legend will never die!
@davidsentanu78362 ай бұрын
The way Namco brought back Heihachi from dead might suggest that the monks summoned Heihachi from the past (Soul Calibur III's Heihachi.) Thus it might be the start of Tekken x Soul Calibur crossover event. Also, they added more weapons into Tekken aside from Yoshi, like Raven, French Raven, nun-chuck Law, and magic staff Leroy. And probably they'll add yet another guest character from Final Fantasy (Cloud or Sephiroth, maybe.)

Great video! This was a great collection of all dormant fighting game series that were once popular. I can't think of one missing. The most surprising ones to me were honestly the games that came out within the last decade that are considered dead. It feels weird to think of Soulcalibur or KI as dead titles, but yeah, it's been 6 to 10 years. Usually that's when we see new titles take over, or at least continuing DLC when looking at games like Skullgirls. Darkstalkers and MvC are games Capcom likes to dangle the carrot in front of us for making new titles, but I'll take the bait every time. Darkstalkers are not dead and MvC will return!

Morrigan is the ultimate example of a character outliving their franchise. Just because Morrigan, Felicia, Hsien-Ko, Demitri and the like are floating around out there in the ether in other games doesn't mean Darkstalkers is a shoe-in. If Capcom can thread the needle and make a new Darkstalkers that people will actually play, it'll be impressive. Also, kudos to SNK for putting out bangers and steadily revitalizing their catalog of IPs since returning to game dev. Reviving Fatal Fury has been a most personal mission for some of the developers, so being able to finally get it done should be invigorating. They've already confirmed a new Art of Fighting is in the works as well as a Samurai Shodown action RPG, to say nothing of whatever they're doing with Metal Slug. The company has well-documented aspirations of becoming AAA within ten years, so seeing them spread their wings more and more with every year will be interesting to see.

In my opinion, DoA needs to embrace its silliness (yes, THAT silliness). I know it would probably cause issues for advertising and main stage tournaments, but come on... that series lived and died on sexy costumes and ridiculous physics, and DoA6 tried so hard to distance itself from that to make it more marketable. I don't understand why we can have MK on main stages with characters ripping out organs and goring everyone to death, but the minute R. Mika slaps her butt it becomes a problem. -_- I really think there's a space for DoA as a semi-lewd, but technically solid fighter, and these major sponsors have to grow up and let that be part of the community as well. Also, I'm sure there's talk at Arcsys to give Blazblue the GGST treatment. If I were to venture a guess, I'd say it's in some sort of pre-production right now, and they'll announce it in the next couple years.

DoA should simply combine the fighting game and the beach volleyball game. Add a few more activities, like bowling, dancing, tag team, three-way battle / dramatic battle, battle royale, etc. Focus the story less into bumbling schoolgirls kawaii adventure, but lean more seriously into the ninja lore, with a menacing world-ending villain arc. Make it a real high-stake story with over-the-top characters that just happened to dress sexily for no reason, instead of everyday story about cute ordinary girls that dress sexily also for no reason. The first is fan-service, the latter is just perverted. Two totally different things. Add silly gimmicks too choose, like low gravity, underwater stage, anything really. Just make it the most fun, dress-up dolls sport/action/fighting amusement park and laugh all the way to the bank with the cosmetics microtransactions.

3:33 Wanna make a slight correction. Soulcalibur II is the best-selling entry in the franchise. The director stated in an interview for III's demo/beta/E3 build that II sold 4m copies. The Japanese Wikipedia page for II leads to the page that featured the E3 2005 interview that had Yotoriyama (longtime series director and producer) state this. This 4m sales figure was stated way before HD Online was made, so II's total sales numbers should be even higher. As for IV, we so far only know that 2.32m copies were sold for the game. It still makes it one of the best-selling games of the franchise, though, as I believe VI only sold 2m copies. This puts the games total sales ranking as follows: II > IV > VI > V > III > I > Edge > Legends As for whether the series is dead or not, I think it's just taking a break. Bamco's approval process for games is annoying, and Tekken only really got where it was due to Harada having to skirt the rules at times (based on his interview that he had that you mentioned in the video). It'll probably take a while though as Bamco takes forever to approve stuff (as their management sucks).

I would agree that DOA is pretty much dead if it weren't for the fact that the company is more focused on turning the girls into and to quote my friend here " Virtual girls that people spend vast amounts of money on for costumes" then making a DOA7. I mean really 5 had that much money for DLC costumes and then 6 made it even worse with even more scummy decisions on top of them focusing more on extreme beach volleyball 3 where they had a whole bunch of new female characters that I'm pretty sure everyone forgot about and even more dirty costumes. Now I honestly think that all the girls do from the series is just go on that island and just chill for the next several years because they're not getting any work and Kasumi is currently being a gravuare model lol. But man it does always suck when there's a fighting game franchise that you want to see come back only for certain things to come by and say nope that's not going to happen.

This video is good at explaining what happened to each series. I didn't know that the create lead left in the case of Soul Calibur and Blazblue. As for the Capcom games, I will say they should do the Capcom All Stars idea another shot. A 2v2 or 3v3 fighter with all IPs. We got CFE which everyone hate, but I see it as a guilty pleasure on what could have been. As for DOA, that part hurt me. I personally have all 6 games. Yes, all 6. Plus Dimensions on my 3DS. Still annoyed that Koei fumble the bag with 6 and focused too much on reselling and costume season passes. 😢 I want another DOA game personally.

Darkstalkers is my favorite Capcom fighting game IP. I would love to see a new release, but I would only be really interested if they used hand drawn sprites, which seems highly unlikely to happen. That coupled with the fact that they don’t even have the data to support their confidence in releasing a new game in general means I’m not keeping my hopes up about it coming back.

Especially when you look at the style of the vampire savior versions of darkstalkers, and compare to things like guilty gear, they could EASILY update the systems to something with a similar feel (use the special gauge for a percentage pushblock instead of mashing! build in more juggles and natural links but avoid super long combos! easy!), start with the entire old cast an build a new generation off of there (how much does Leo feel like a new vampire hunter two generations down the line? lots of easy examples of concepts). People would go nuts.

PlayStation AllStars just wasn't an interesting game. It could be fun, but it was kind of messy and lacked a clear identity. Other platform fighters like Rivals of Aether and Brawlhalla did a better job replicating the fast combat of Smash Bros while adding their own unique and interesting elements.

I think the issue with darkstalkers is Capcom is possibly not willing to pay for animating the game. DS has a lot of insane animations that's possibly too difficult to translate into 3D, I think ArcSys is the only company who could possibly pull it off.

Particularly, the 3D fighter talk spoke to me a lot as I've primarily played Soul Calibur for a looooooooooong while. I wish it had more love within Bamco (the pandemic cancelling its world tour and a host of other plans hurt that game a lot, I feel. But not enough to make it look like it didn't sell). That also said, the start of the video reminded me of being on the receiving end of "yo why you still playing dead games tho" only for the guy talking like that also witness his favorite fighter lose support too.

What about PlayStation Allstar Battle Royale? That was a fighting game that used a lot of PlayStation characters such as Kratos, Sly Cooper, Racthet and Clank, Jak and Daxter and Nathan Drake. There were also leaks of Dart from Legend of Dragoon being a DLC character but that was scrapped because the game wasn’t doing too well. I brought up PlayStation Allstar Battle Royale to a friend in college and he acted like the game never existed and stated that there was only Super Smash Bros. It’s a damn shame that the game never got any sequels because there were so many other PlayStation characters for Sony to use like Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima, Raziel and Kain from Legacy of Kain, Joker from Persona 5, the characters from White Knight Chronicles, Rose and the other dragoons from Legend of Dragoon, the characters from Ni No Kuni 1 and 2, Sora, Riku, Roxas and Aqua from Kingdom Hearts and Jaster and his gang from Rogue Galaxy.

Ya know its sad that Battle Arena is forever lost. Its one of the PS1 fighters that I got addicted to. SC6 was a huge step in the right direction for the series as it offered more SP content than the previous entry. It gave me memories of SC3 which is my favorite entry plus it had a decent amount of DLC so I'm guessing there was some extra cash thrown at it for doing well. I feel its not if we will get a SC7 but when. Side note no SC game has yet to have a banger opener like soulblade/edge. Iv always loved bloody roar since it made itself stood out with the blood and the fact people can transform back and forth from human to animal. I feel it can stand out even today since well you dont see any other fighter doing this. I mean there is a fanbase as well since some fans made a mod for BR2 that redubs the whole game with brand new pro voice actors. Speaking of standing out I will never understand capcoms fear of releasing a new darkstalkers. Its basically a horror movie character fighter and those are close to non existent not counting an indy game here and there. Also like you said they keep selling morg merch and it must sell so why not do another game with more of the popular female cast from there. I dont know what they were thinking with def jam icon. It was nothing like the last two games which is what made those games popular even to people who dont care for rap/hip-hop and yea no remaster since thats legal hell right there. I will never forgive for what blazeblu did with its final entry before the tag fighter. It gave a big middle finger to fans who supported them by releasing it sub only and never doing a dub when all the games before it had one. So some people couldn't really experience the end of the arc with the voices they come to enjoy. It came off as lazy and cheap.
