This game is why the ESRB was formed due to it's extreme gore and violence. I wonder how the angry mothers coordinated the effort since Al Gore hadn't provided internet to every home in 1994. I was 6 years old when I got my Sega, playing this game and Sonic the Hedgehog all the time. Altered Beast was cool too, and countless others.

Test Your Might made for a fun (albeit brief) interlude between fights - it would've been cool to see variations on this in the sequels. My guess is since the sequels don't have a score system, and only "number of wins" tally, it was deemed redundant to have mini games between rounds.
