Yeah, they both want the Crown, but Shang Tsung will betray his alliance at any given moments. That is his nature and it has been played out numerous times, especially in the case of Shang Tsung and Quan Chi. Whereas with Liu Kang, he will never betray his friends.

@@user-sw8lc6qb6s Yeah, and don’t forget, we even see Shang Tsung break his first alliance at the start of HIS chapter when he deceives Fujin into giving him the Crown when Shao Kahn & Sindel make their move (Shang planned this knowing they would be an excellent diversion for Earthrealm & Outworld) by shapeshifting into Raiden. Not to mention that Fujin was IN on it the whole time: He was given specific instructions by Liu Kang to make sure Shang Tsung wins in the end (this involves sacrificing everyone involved because the Hourglass is one big reset button for whoever wears the Crown) and that once he does, Liu Kang would steal the victory by taking the Crown back. It then falls upon you to see if Liu Kang’s plan works or if his arrogance leads to his downfall.

Yeah, but you should also know that Shang Tsung bring a lot of bad things on himself. For example, living just to suck the souls of the people? He cheated in on of MK tournaments and the price was that he will age rapidly, that's his punishment. In face, in every MK game, he got punished badly for his own actions. Lucky for him, he had his moment in Deadly Alliance, Deception, even Armageddon. Now, we get to see Shang Tsung's ending as well. With Quan Chi, i have no idea whether Netherealm Studios is gonna bring him back or not.

Technically once, but yes twice, it's confusing to think about but in the original rebooted timeline, Shao Kahn snapped his neck in the arena, and in Aftermath, Shao Kahn snapped his neck on a boat near the sea of blood, but this Kung Lao that got his neck snapped at the sea of blood was supposed to meet his fate way earlier in the arena, but events from MK 11 interfered with events in MK 9, so Liu Kang never died, and whoever else was brought over lived different lives

I understand that this is just part of the game mechanics since this game is 1 vs 1, but I can't help but think how at 2:54 Sindel suggests attacking Shang Tsung together, but Shao Kahn makes a gesture like "Stay here" and goes into the fight alone. Shao didn't mind for the entire chapter if Sindel wanted to fight Geras/Kessie/Johnny/Kung Lao, but not this time. I can't help but think he's protective of her. I think Shao understood that Shang Tsung with the crown is now quite dangerous, so he went into battle first.

Imagine Shang Tsung as the Communists in WW2, Raiden's side is the Allied Forces, Shao Kahn's side is Fascist, Kronika's side is another side of Fascists, say, the Japanese forces, and Fire god Liu Kang was the last force to fight the Communists, the Nationalist. Clearly, the fight between Liu Kang and Shang Tsung at the very end is the symbol of the battle between the Nationalist side and the Communists side. Only this time, you get to choose which side will win. In real history, the Communist side won in China, lost in Japan, Singapore and South Korean. However, that's just my opininon, because clearly, you guys have yours too.

Shao Kahn got pussified, Sindel got retconned and wholly assassinated as a character and Kronika was pulled straight out of the writers' asses and made into the quasi big bad of the series without ever having to earn it. Only Shang Tsung remained consistent and true to himself, and yet he got backstabbed and killed off in MK9. All things considered, they all deserved to have their asses kicked by him.

Geras was chained up so he couldn’t swim up but I’m pretty sure Kung Lao can do a basic human task such as swimming. But geras was eaten alive by a fish allowing him to escape according to him, so Kung Lao could have also been eaten, idk.

@@zoeythickness7478 If that were the case, it would’ve taken at least after his Revenant’s death for Past Kung Lao to become food for a passing leviathan in the Sea of Blood. Also, I know this is MK Aftermath, but how did Past Jade survive fighting Sindel when she was killed alongside her fellow warriors two games prior? I know she was defeated via being hurled through the boat, but surely she would join Kung Lao in the Sea of Blood right? If anything, I think a more fitting trio for Shang Tsung’s group to fight at the end would be Revenant Kitana, Geras (unless he was beaten by Raiden in the same way), and Cetrion since imo, it’d lead to a more fulfilling battle: Shao Kahn would know not to underestimate Kitana now that she is powered up and could beat him in a similar way, Sindel’s rematch with Cetrion would be trickier due to not having Nightwolf as backup, and Shang Tsung may have some difficulty against Geras since his regeneration and the fact that he is eternal means his soul-magic may not work. Of course, they’d still win, but it’d be a more conclusive cutscene before Shang betrays his former superiors.

@Insight Hazard I mean, I knew Sheeva’d died since Sindel does mention how Kitana “murdered” the Shokans, which means those two foot soldiers weren’t Sindel’s only target. As for Kung Lao, I’d say it was yet another oversight by NRS. Also, does this mean Past Jade survived being thrown through the boat? I assumed Sindel would do so to throw her into the Sea of Blood, and if that’s the case, then her Revenant along with Revenant Kung Lao shouldn’t have been in the final battle. With that said, I still would’ve preferred Geras (assuming Raiden didn’t fight him in the Sea of Blood), Cetrion, and Revenant Kitana to be the final trio Shang Taung, Sindel, and Shao Kahn fight before Shang betrays them. Who knows, maybe for fun, I’ll write a Google Doc essay on any changes I’d implement to the Aftermath story as a whole.

I still say they did Sindel backwards. Making her look good as a villain but scary as a hero. As far as appearances go. I truly believed she was done a justice in her resurrection until she sided with Shang Tsung. They needed her power to stop Centrion and help save the future. Then she could have restored Edenia. That would have been a satisfying storyline for me.

Because then what happens if they gain godhood and decide they're underlings no more? Luckily for him, Shao Khan is a strict observer of the second rule of the evil overlord: be too much of an ego maniac that is blind to obvious weaknesses.
