Different timelines, perhaps? Nobody says the timeline has to be straight from 9 through X and 11. Kronika said herself everything's played out like this several times over, even Raiden realizing not to fight Liu Kang. It's entirely possible that on *this* timeline Sindel was never a hero and genuinely put the ward up trying to keep Shao Kahn from overextending and merging the realms without victory in Mortal Kombat. After all, it really _did_ come out that the one time Shao Kahn decides to merge the realms without victory, he screws himself over, no? That's probably the best in-universe reasoning for the multiple timelines, retcons, and arcade endings, after all.

I never understood why Kung Lao was mad at raiden for his death. Liu Kang I do completely, but with Kung Lao he says raiden sent him to his death fighting Shao Kahn when that’s not true.
