As someone who has been playing Mortal Kombat since the first one came out, I am still in shock that they managed to make Johnny Cage awesome. He was always everyone's least favorite fighter. Netherrealm brought him back and made him damned cool. Then in MK11, they brought back old Johnny so you can see just how much they evolved him.

Johnny Cage is an arrogant prick who thinks dangerously highly of himself, but deep down, he only takes things as a joke when he feels he can do so When he fights Baraka, Reptile and Kano, he jokes around, he acts cocky, but when he fights Sindel and Shinnok, there are no one liners, there are no jokes, just straight KOMBAT Sonya is super serious and takes her job as such, and when she first met Johnny, she didn’t think of him as anything more than a jokester, a clown, an arrogant prick, but after he saved her from Kano, she came to realize that he wasn’t just some cocky dick, he was actually a pretty good guy I brought up scenes from MK9 since that’s where they met in the first place, but there’s one scene where their relationship TRULY started, at the end of Johnny’s chapter he offers a hand to help Sonya up but pulls it back because he doesn’t want to offend her, so she accepts his help because she realized “Maybe he’s not so bad after all” After that came Sonya’s chapter, where she wasn’t willing to let Raiden get near Jax until Johnny told her that Raiden was cool, meaning she trusted his judgement Things kept going from there and one thing lead to another, they were married and had a daughter

I really like how much the creation of Cassie Cage has added so much to the story dynamics of Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage. They really have been the focal point and the most interesting storylines of these last 2 games. Prior to this they were kind of one dimensional for a long time, while the other original characters like the ninjas, Raiden and the monks had more development in several of the games prior to the last 2 games. Sonya was always just revenge tunnel vision on Kano. Johnny Cage was just a throwaway joke character. They have developed a great story arc thats really engaging. Cage is still confident, charming and cocky, but now a mature and protective Husband & father. Sonya still the hardened soldier, but now has a family to live for than just vengeance or a mission.

One of my only complaints is that it kinda sucks that they randomly killed of Kenshi between games, for seemingly no reason. Why couldn't they just say he wasn't present or available as a fighter?
