This definitely bring back memories,I’ll never forget,9th grade,September 13,1994. Was the day I got the phone call from FuncoLand letting me know I can pick up Mortal Kombat 2 for the super NES. Had to have a parent with me to pick it up,because it was rated mature,talk about excitement building up! Knowing that this time there’s Blood and all the fatalities,friendships.I couldn’t wait till school ended that day,and that same night was the summer Slam pre recorded pay per view when the Undertaker Vs Undertaker. You don’t get to many good Tuesdays like that. Good times back in the 90’s.

I remember playing the water down version , if you didnt feel like going to the arcade. For those who werent around to witness the birth of mortal kombat, especially mk 2 , its one of those things that you had to be there to know how huge mk2 got. At the time street fighter hyper fighting was the shit and rightfully so . But when mk2 came out it left street fighter miles behind . Mk2 was louder bigger faster , it had blood and gore and fatalities it was definitely an upgrade to mk 1. I always read or hear that the best mk game is mk9 and i dont argue with that , i myself go back and forth but i guess because mk2 was on arcade and in order to play it you had to go with your friends to the arcade and wait your turn. How many kids would stand around this game and wait their turn was mind blowing , there was a magic that you just dont get with a release of games today. Im not taking anything away from this generation i understand times change but for the lucky ones who were there you guys know what im talking about.

And I my friend know exactly what you’re talking about. I’m 44 and remember when MK2 came out in arcades and you nailed the description of that time right on the head. Thanks for sharing bro. I will say, while MK9 had the biggest impact on me of the newer games, it’ll still never compare to my initial reaction when MK and especially MK2 came out 👊🏼

There was nothing like MK or the the first 2 sequels when they were in the arcade.. I think part of it was that performing the fatalities or finishers were like putting in special codes that not everyone knew.. plus you had to win in order to do it. Do not only was the game exciting and doing something that other games in the genre hadn't done before. It made you feel special just for playing it.

Let's say that the most iconic was certainely Mortal Kombat II, i totally agree with what you said. The best... I would'n't say that as the gameplay was a bit bold and didn't aged as well as Street Fighter II for example who is still played on some kind of old school e-sport tournament. MK9 was only the renaissance after all those poor sequel on Ps2, MK hype finally came back with the 9 and a more competitive gameplay on the long term.

I remember buying this game from a local video rental store, at 9 years old with saved up pocket money. We had a bbq at our place that day and most of the local kids came over and we had a tournament whilst the adults socialised in another room. Everyone was blown away by the graphics and gore, it blew out minds. We had so much fun! Then my mum and her friends came in the room to see what all the noise was about, just as a fatality was being performed. The next day she made me take it back to swap it, shouting at the store owner for selling it to a 9 year old... I ended up being coerced into buying Mario's Missing, sigh... Anyway, MK2 was fkin awesome and ofcourse me and the boys pooled our resources and bought the game again 3 days later, playing in secret whenever we could. Awesome game, awesome memories 😂

Mortal Kombat II was essentially SNES saying "f**k it". With MK 1 they tried to adhere to Nintendo of America's standard of being a bit more family friendly and they ended up boosting their competition (Sega) because Sega was willing to have blood and more graphic fatalities in MK1. So with MK2 Nintendo decided to not repeat the mistake, kept in all the blood and fatalities. The result was Super Nintendo releasing a vastly superior port of MK2 compared to the Sega Genesis port.

I remember this arcade port of Mortal Kombat 2 for the SNES. Man was it one of the most amazing ports ever done. It’s crazy what they did with just 24-Megabits (3MB) of ROM space. It was like having the arcade at home as I played the original and the SNES came damn close to it. And Scultured Software deserves high praise, as they used every drop of processing power the SNES offered to full effect. I wonder what they could’ve achieved with more ROM space
@Aeon2Flux
@Aeon2Flux Жыл бұрын
Then Sculptured went and made the Genesis MK3 even closer to the arcade than their own MK3.. Something about the sound of the dial up combos on snes bothered me like Probe being lazy on the sound in Genesis MKII. On MK3 Genesis when you do a dial up combo you hear the cracks of all the punches and followed by arcade accurate screams and shouts from the male ,female and even Sheeva s yells.It s hard to explain it but it makes so much of a difference. When you start a dial up on Snes you get 2 muffled punch sounds and the rest is followed by generic uh uh uh uh s.. sounds and it bothered me like All of the Arcade sound effects removed on the Genesis MKII.. Probe was really bad with MKII they managed to botch 3 different ports across 3 different consoles..All 3 in a different way than the last. One of them being on Sega Saturn..Sculptured squeezed so much out of that aging 16 bit Genesis and I really wished they had handled all 3 versions of MK s for SNES and Genesis. They clearly had better talent.They understood and properly utilized the hardware of each console for the closest arcade to home experience.

This to me has always been the Best home conversion. Back when there was Snes, or Genesis. This was the winner for me Very close to the arcade. Everything besides the slightly muffled sound. But i will take that compared to the poor genesis/ consistent sound (every game on genesis had that sound quality. Im sure you know what i mean. When this came out i had the genesis version. But almost every day or other i would go to down street to this girls Brandys house to play MKII ON snes. Haha that all i wanted to play for hours . She was an only child never quite understood why she had it. Thats all i would want to do when i came over to her house for quite awhile. Never did have an snes till years later when ps1 and n64 newest systems. But once i did get one . Mk2 and killer instinct were the first games i got. Still the best version today. Happy to see you give this one a go. MkII is still my favorite of the original series. Man i remember when the arcde first came out Brand New! Miss em. Enjoy your content.

Still my favorite MK of all time. So many hours reading Nintendo Power trying to learn all the fatalities and secrets. The graphics for its time were amazing compared to the first game. I had it on Sega Genesis and stood in line with my mom at Toys R Us to be told it has a MA-17 rating and my mom has to purchase it. Unlike the first one there was no blood code but since she never saw blood from the first game she went ahead and got it for me. It’s weird I haven’t thought about that in 30 years until I watched this video. Thanks for the flashback. Also, thank you to the employee who told her it’s because the characters were scary looking so it got a MA-17
