Mortal Kombat Arcade Edition - Genesis / Mega Drive (Playthrough)

Recorded directly from the real hardware.
My setup is: Genesis 1 + Mega Everdrive Pro + OSSC + EZCap 333.

MK1 and MK2 soundtracks slap super hard on the genesis! Matt Furniss should have done MK3 too - i bet it would have sounded amazing.

The SNES version would need like a total rewrite. It had this weird input lag, and even Ed Boon said the Genesis version played closer

The over try unfortunetly the snes lame 2mhz cpu can't run fighters. All have slow down and masive imput lagg .

This is pretty good and probably what it should have been on release. I wish they could work with the guys who know how to produce Genesis music to see how close it could be to the arcade original soundtrack

Time constraints were the cause of a lot of bad ports obviously. Nowadays developers are too lazy to release a finished product on day 1

i guess the reason why the original version doesent have as much sound effects is the cost of cartridge space and thats it mostly.

Jesus, what a difference. I knew when MK3 on Genesis dropped that the MK1 port could have been soo much better. This just proves it. Amazing what some sound effects can do. Also the sprites look a little bigger.

So, The reason why the original release had so many cuts was because of Rom Size. A Rom size that could fit this much was too expensive.

Forgot how cheesy the gfx where, but the game play is better. The Extras where not in the SNES version. The Music Chip is dated but was the best for the time period. I play all the versions. Love each one! TYVM

The Genesis version was an absolute disappointment when it came out, but this would have been great. Only complaint is not redoing the music to sound more like the arcade.

Agreed. The Genesis port played well, but was sooo incredibly shit otherwise. Especially compared not only to SNES, but also MK2 and MK3 Genesis ports. I didn't realize until MK3 port how much better MK1 could have been. Just the added sound effects makes this sooo much richer and close to thr SNES

@@MrAhuraMazda The Genesis version had superior gameplay, better controls, AWESOME music, and all the Arcade faithful content like fatalitys. SNES version had better colors and more voice samples, and that's about it. It falls short in every other way and is honestly an embarrasment. Like, why would they even release a port like that?

Yea I agree the only part that was good was the graphics and sounds, you had to use the game genie code to turn the sweat into blood, it totally sucked ass, I had the genesis version and loved it 😎🤘🏾​@@Gametester110-qf8vs

Is your system showing Jailbars or did you set it as scanlines on the OSSC?

Hello! Yes, both for your questions. Unfortunately my Genesis unit has no mods for taking out the jailbars and I also put minimum vertical scanlines to kind of smooth it. Also KZbin also doesn't help much as well.

@@48hourrecordsteam45 Yeah, wanted to chime in, love the work here (except for Ermac forcing to beat Shang Tsung again if I lose to him, a bit ludicrous if you ask me), but didn't feel quite the same on the MK2 32X. I didn't like the new Dead Pool colors, for example, I thought it was a downgrade. For me the dream would be someone completely fixing the SNES MK1 version, like reinstating gore, fixing the godawful controls and lag, etc. I don't reckon it will ever happen though. Have you checked Mortal Kombat II Unlimited on the Genesis?
