Yes very true, back in the day I owned the Amiga 500 version of Mortal Kombat, and although it is now considered to be a terrible port of MK I enjoyed the hell out of it when I was kid.

looking side by side, I confess to you that the Sega Genesis version surprised me, mainly because I found the gameplay of the Sega Genesis version better than the Arcade version. (the combos are easier to do in the Sega Genesis version, as it is 60fps/hz unlike the Arcade version which is 54fps/hz) Note 1: Please don't confuse fps/hz with animation/frames, because the Arcade version has more animation/frames, ok? Note 2: The Sega Genesis version of the video is the official version, not the hack version. Note 3: fps =/= hz (although they look the same)

Oi Ricardo, mas em nenhum momento comentei que a versão do mega drive é melhor que a do arcade.... apenas disse que a jogabilidade é melhor que a versão Arcade, pois aqui, os combos saem melhor por funcionar em uma frequência maior (60hz) contra os 54hz da versão Arcade.... você pode ver isso de forma bem clara na luta contra o KANO, onde facilmente consigo fazer a sequência de 3 hit na versão do Genesis, mas não consigo fazer a mesma sequência na versão Arcade, ficando apenas 2 hit. E sim, concordo com você de que nenhum port da época chegou a ter a mesma experiência da versão arcade, experiência essa que envolve a união de vários aspectos como os gráficos, os sons, a violência, as música, a jogabilidade e etc. E embora a jogabilidade da versão do Mega Drive seja boa, infelizmente pecou nas outras coisas, o que faz com que a experência da versão do Arcade seja muito melhor, o que era normal e esperado para a época. Mas, com a versão do Mega Drive em casa e sua ótima jogabilidade, a pessoa poderia muito bem treinar em casa, e depois utilizar o que aprendeu em casa no próprio Arcade, seja contra a CPU ou contra outras pessoas. Afinal de contas, jogos de luta são sobre jogabilidade, embora os outros elementos tb sejam importantes como gráficos, sons, músicas e etc Na verdade, em qualquer jogo, o aspecto mais importante é a jogabilidade, pois esse é o aspecto que diferencia os vídeo games de outros meios de entretenimento como o cinema, a literatura, a música e etc

@@vcdecide entendi que disse sobre a jogabilidade mesmo, você tem razão, no mega é sim mais fluida, mas ainda assim eu prefiro a jogabilidade do arcade, como você comentou, alguns aspectos da jogabilidade do mega não são possíveis reproduzir no arcade, como no caso que citou da luta contra o Kano, no mega é possível uma sequencia de 3 hits e no arcade não, sendo assim, nem tudo o que fazemos no mega pode ser feito no arcade. Mas o ponto aqui é que quem tinha um mega na época e jogou essa versão, certamente divertiu-se muito, a melhor versão doméstica da época sem sombra de dúvidas! Me lembro muito bem da primeira vez que joguei com os amigos e debloqueamos o sangue e fatalities, foi algo mágico para nós, em diversão esse jogo era completo para nós!

E mais uma vez concordo com você de que quem tinha essa versão na época se divertiu bastante, apesar de ser inferior ao concorrente no que diz respeito aos gráficos, vozes e fidelidade das músicas... mas ao menos na versão MD tinha uma boa jogabilidade, além do sangue que é sinônimo de mortal kombat.

@DrTech XX Amigo, olhando o Hardware original do Mortal Kombat 1 e comparando ao do Mega Drive, nem são tão distintos. O problema está na conversão da Probe, até porque o NBA JAM também utiliza o mesmo Hardware do Mortal Kombat 1 e a Acclaim fez uma excelente conversão para o Mega Drive. 😉

The versions of the musics for the Genesis were a great disapointment to me back in the days ...but somehow they conquer my heart and the hearts of many. This is so true that these versions are often included in many MK Mugens. They are so cheap and have that zen-vergonha feeling that end up being uniquely cool 😂😂😂

The Genesis had better music than the Arcade as even the Arcade had little music! On the other hand the sound sample's are missing on Genesis! Also some frame's of animation! At least the Genesis had blood unlike Nintendo!

Mega Drive MK is a great playing port, but it strips down the stage detail and is missing more than a few sounds. Acclaim should have went with a 24 Mbit cart (what Capcom used for SF2 Special CE) rather than 16.

A Sega deveria ter ajudado de todas as formas o port do Mk1 para o Genesis,a Nintendo já tinha o Street Fighter 2 de exclusivo temporário,os proprietários do Genesis merecia um port bem melhor,o Mk1 do Genesis é mudo,os gráficos simples com poucos detalhes,só o sangue e a jogabilidade que foi bem no port.

Very decent conversion. MD missed a scroll plane and had a palette too saturated and heterogeneous. On the winning side, it had scaled sprites and transparency on the shadows, and Matt Furniss for the music. If someone hacked this version, probably would get something really good

And as always, people who didn't grow up in the 90's are missing the point. You had to get into some very shady arcade saloons to play this back then, at least here in the third world. You had to scrape for money you didn't have. You had to endure the heat and noise of your average shady arcade saloon. You ran the risk of getting a challenge by some other guy, winning, and ending up in a fistfight. With the console versions, you would play whenever and however much you wanted. (Assuming your parents were to let you. 😂) You could play with your friends or cousins if they stayed for the night. You could practice for when you would actually go play the arcade version. Etc. It was always going to be a technically inferior version. It had to run on affordable, multipurpose hardware, and come in an affordable cartridge. It was unavoidable. That's just how things were back then. 🤷‍♂️ But it made us 90's kids so, _so_ , SO happy. ❤️

I remember playing this on the Mega Drive when it came out and I was disappointed. The graphics and sound are nowhere near as good as the arcade. But hey, at least it had blood (even that looks poor) and fatalities.

The Genesis port was extremely well-done and capable for its time, even if the arcade clearly has it beat. One interesting thing I never noticed before, but I think the Genesis actually did a slightly better job than the arcade on one tiny graphical point in having good-looking shadow transparencies. Arcade is just pitch-black and looks less realistic.

I never realized how lazy the background porting was... at many times they could have added detail and changed the scrolling mid screen to simulate additional layers and simply have a clear background. oh well, probably would not fit the graphics memory or the cart itself anyway...

This does make me appreciate how impressive the arcade version is but for a 16-bit console, the Genesis version has nothing to be ashamed of, and when you consider the dithering that was used to take advantage of composite connections which made it look better than on modern HD displays it was a great home conversion for the time.

A jogabilidade da versão do mega é a única coisa que se salva, de resto é capado em tudo, os sons/musicas são ruins, a falta de vários quadros de animação, alguns cenários pobres com cor neutra de fundo, limitação de cores, entre outras coisinhas. Espero que o Master Linkuei tenha conseguido contornar todos esses problemas, deixando o jogo como deveria ser desde o início, nas mãos da Midway.

Eu joguei muito ambas as versões na época pois eu tinha o cartucho de MK1. Era divertido e tal mas a versão arcade simplesmente destrói a versão do Mega Drive. Mas pelo menos a versão do Mega Drive tinha uma coisa que não tinha no Arcade: Dava pra enfrentar o Reptile com a Sonya Blade.

To be fair the first Mortal Kombat was developed by a small team of developers that originally was just a fun little one and done project that was originally meant to be just a arcade exclusive. Honestly they didn't think the first Mortal Kombat would end up leaving the arcade and get ported to multiple gaming platforms later on. So it's understandable that when mortal kombat got ported over to multiple gaming platforms that the development window would be short, the development teams doing the ports were not very experienced with the use of digitized characters models and animation techniques especially being very new technology method used in video games. So it's understandable certain arcade assets would not make the cut because of different teams working on different ports of Mortal Kombat, each development team having to work under tight budget constraints and tight development deadlines to get them on stores shelves & into people's homes to meet popular demand.

A versão do Mega pra mim é nostálgica porque conheci a franquia Mortal Kombat através dele quando eu tinha o meu Mega Drive lá na década de 90! Pra mim o único ponto que eu gosto da versão do Mega são as músicas que na minha opinião são memoráveis e bacanas ao contrário do Arcade! Fora isso o Arcade ganha do resto só igualando na jogabilidade que ambos são boas!

The Genesis/MD looks absolutely terrible. Probe did a horrible job. Yes, the SNES port didn't have blood and played poorly but at least it looked and sounded like the arcade. This is just disgraceful.

Agree. At this point, the blood argument seems to be an excuse to defend this bad port against Snes version. I am not a fan boy. There are better arcades ports on mega that Snes, but not this one.

No Mega Drive continua com a trilha sonora chata de mais nada haver com a original que é bem macabra, as vozes também horrível como sempre, na época tinha o Mega e o Super Nintendo mais alugava a versão do Mega porque não tinha opção e acho essa versão menos horrível que a do SNES só por ter sangue jogabilidade e os fatality melhor que a do SNES, a Sega era muito desleixada com seus ports parece que não acompanhava as produções dos jogos para o Mega por isso as produtoras faziam de qualquer jeito, o Mortal Kombat 2 não ter as vozes dos personagens e aqueles gráficos horríveis foi outra vergonha 🤦🏻‍♂️👎🏻!!!…

The Genesis port is not that great of a game, once you take away the blood and gore. Without it, you're left with a port that looks bad, has terrible sound effects, a musical score that is *not* arcade accurate(Sorry Matt, but I just ain't feeling this one!), and if you were stuck with a 3-button pad, it played awful too. Probe really didn't seem to like Sega very much. If you look at the games Probe developed for both systems(Alien 3, T2: The Arcade Game, etc), you can see that more effort was put into their SNES offerings.
