This is going to be a fun series. It is fun to see which characters got so much love while which ones were seemingly punching bags. That and the results are interesting. -makes sense for Scorpion to be seemingly used a lot (and got beaten quite a bit too). -A but shocked to see how out of the whole cast, Lex and Flash got the best ratios. I suppose it makes sense for Flash to get more wins due to him getting hit with the rage first (or one of the first) while Lex… I guess the other thing too was how often he fought Jax (can’t imagine why… *scratches head*) but him getting so many wins does seem like a thing Lex would want more than anything else. -Catwoman having the worst ratio due to off screen losses. For some reason, I will be thinking Baraka is going to have it worse compared to everyone else, and I’ll wait patient to see how often that doesn’t happen (such as him having the least losses in this video). I know that anyone who isn’t playable is basically going to be a punching bag for the player, but I am curious how often it could happen (or if we’ll see several cases of him doing better than at least the sun or not story playable characters). Probably would be safer to bet on Kano…

I understand why people think that NetherRealm’s story structure makes some characters seem extremely weak, but I don’t think that it was ever intended for us to look at it like that, so I don’t really feel that way. That being said, NetherRealm’s story structure is inherently flawed in so many other ways that they really should’ve tried something different by now.

@pious83 Leg me rephrase this: I don’t think NetherRealm wants us to see it as “the villains are weak because they never win any fights.” I think NetherRealm wants us to see it as “the villains are a threat because we tell you they are, and they only lose fights because they have to for the story to progress the way we want it to.”. Is that good? No. That is literally the opposite of what you are supposed to do. Still, I understand the way we are supposed to see it, and that is the say that I perceive the story. That does not mean it is not an issue. They need to change the way their story modes are told (or at the bare minimum, give some chapters to the villains). I agree that it is a problem, I just do not believe it is as big of one as everybody else does.

Watching this vid got me thinking about how NRS could potentially go about portraying Kano in M1K (assuming he makes it in as a DLC main fighter or is at least featured in some kind of story expansion). I think one thing they could do is keep that same rude, crass, scoundrel attitude that he's known for but make it so that it's more of a facade he puts up to make those around him underestimate him. Ideally, others characters would see him act this way and just think he's another dime a dozen meathead gangster whose bark is bigger than their bite. But in actuality, Kano would be much stronger and craftier than he lets on. Definitely not Fire God Liu Kang strong or anything like that, but strong enough to actually go toe to toe with a lot of the main cast and (very important part here) ACTUALLY score a win from time to time. I think it would be a cool spin on how he is classicly depicted and would actually give some depth and meaning to his rude nature rather than just having him be an asshole for the sake of being an asshole. Snowblind already gave us a small taste of what that could look like, and I honestly really like how Kano was characterized in that movie. Seeing a character like that actually be three steps ahead of everyone else for a change was very interesting. And I also like that they still kept his cockiness and bravado and that those traits are ultimately what led to his defeat in the film. I know I just said that I'd like for him to be craftier, but I do still think that there should be moments where even he slips up and overestimates his abilities or lets his hubris get the best of him.

Having just finally watched SonicHaXD's _Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe_ video this weekend, I'm *really* not surprised that Catwoman is the biggest loser. Pretty funny that The Flash still came out on top despite seeming to just disappear for like 40% of story mode though. Funnier still that Scorpion of all characters has the most losses, which you know will *never* happen again, while Sub-Zero has a positive ratio on top of it. Heh.

With speed, you basically have busted hax that basically do some dumb shit in universal laws like how Barry and Wally racing was endangering the entire multiverse. Now put that with a guy with hook swords and you’ll have people wtf is point of this if someone like liu kang, nightwolf (lots of stupid shit with him as they like to make a meme of him being a suicide mf when he doesn’t need to do that shown in gameplay). MK is not ready for competent writing at all for really extreme bs stakes that basically deal with cosmic level threats as only a few characters live up to the statement. Just a bit of a rant. But for someone who is a speedster, I hate how their powers really overlooked

@@nabilahmed579 This might be a rare instance we disagree overall despite agreeing that speedsters are difficult to write well while still being balanced and that The Flash is stupidly powerful and often just as stupidly written to (poorly) attempt to balance that. I think Kabal's superspeed is the least of his problems, at least by itself, in part because I so rarely gets used in story, as is, maybe for the reasons you already said. Either way I've never personally seen really anyone comment on it being an issue for him as a character until now though. Instead Kabal's issues seem mostly about coming off as a "tier-induced scrappy" due to being often oppressively high tiered in games and then also never really getting to do much in the story any game he's in. _MK9_ was the game where I think Kabal has ever had the most attention, and while his and Stryker's portions are probably the best parts of the _(U)MK3_ rehash, pretty much everyone seems to agree that's by far the weakest part of _MK9_ in general. And then he dies in the Sindel Massacre that's stupidly written even before taking his newfound superspeed into account, so.... (I won't count being written as a dumbass in _MK11_ against him since almost everyone is in that game unfortunately, though _MK11_ only hurt Kabal of course, especially since he was stucking being an ineffectual NRS villain through all of it.) That said, I *do* share your annoyance here in the sense that Kabal's superspeed seems stupidly easy to fix by just...clearly defining the limits of his superspeed in the first place for once. I'm pretty sure it never has been, which just gets into the issues you bring up.

@@MusicoftheDamned at least, it’s not a dumbass disagreement like that Dylan sharp mofo that just says ‘?’, ‘huh’ To everyone that has a logical criticism, and although I disagree considering there were some instances in which super speed is mentioned (like you said, the sindel massacre in which it’s a massive one and out of 3 games, kabal shows it in 2 games - with mkx being the odd one out - in instances where stupid decisions just randomly decide to exist but that could arguably more towards writing), I can see why you would think kabal’s speed would be the least of the problem. That said and speaking in regards to writing, mk1 has done one good thing and that’s getting rid of the special forces main roster (which I will take a wide pill of cope and hope that means SF are not in the story even tho most likely not the case). If there’s one thing I also want from this timeline from Kabal (and Stryker since I feel ridiculously wasted given the settings of mk1), I want the SWAT team basically be representing as the ‘American’ fighting force for earthrealm with kabal and Stryker being the main reps and would be a nice development for them considering both of their 2 different backgrounds (which you don’t get at all with Sonya and jax aimo

How is MKX Kotal Kahn? He beat the crap out of Kano, Rain and Tanya back to back surviving an attempting assassination, than in the connected Comics was a complete badass. MK11 is where Kotal Kahn took a massive nosedive, from not being able to put up a good fight against Shao (despite Kitana, who would be weaker than Goro or Rain, beating him) and then got straight up off screen killed in Aftermath. MKX if it's going to be anyone it's Quan Chi, MK9 would be Raiden funnily enough if not Shao Kahn.

It introduced into MK the chapter system and the multiverse, while ditching 3D era staples such as Konquest and other modes (like chess). It's not considered a 3D era game, just like MK4 isn't either. So it gets put in the NRS era as, like the person above said; it's a precursor and uses the same structure/system. @@EndoScorpion I’ve literally never heard MKvsDC described as NRS Era, it’s always 2D MK1-3 (sometimes 4) 3D MKDA-MKvsDC (sometimes 4) & NRS everything else.

Ed Boon himself said in an interview that the 3D era is three games: Deadly Alliance, Deception, and Armageddon. Sure, people don't really class it as NRS either. In fact, most people don't even regard it as a proper MK game, but a spin-off instead. It terms of gameplay, story, and overall game constent, it is way more like the NRS games, and not like the 3D era games at all really.

@@EndoScorpion in terms of gameplay it’s very different from NRS games, it still has the 3D movement of the other 3D games (hence why it’s considered one of the 3D games) NRS games even though they have 3D models have 2D gameplay. The NRS games are closer to the 2D Era games than they are MKvsDC & the rest of the 3D era games.

Surprising how? Scorpion is a JOBBER, who only wins if there is an Ally or Quan Chi Power up or Plot where the person is already beaten half way like MKX Quan Chi (where he gets beat up by everyone). He became a Spectre because SubZero killed him, He defeated SZ because of the Quan Chi's power up, He was about to kill YSZ in MK4 when Quan Chi removed his power up and got trapped in hell, MK5 Failed to capture and kill Quan Chi, MK6 got thrown in Soulnado and lost to Shujinko, MK7 Lost to Taven and got his clan resurrected as Zombies. The guy is a walking L. 😐

This video is kinda mind numbing. I don't understand why you goobers are always so hung up on the story mode power level inconsistencies. Idk what you expect from these story modes. They literally have to have people lose and if it was always realistic there would be no way to have a story. You have to suspend you disbelief. Of course Sonya isn't going to beat Shazam if we are honest, but they have to make the damn video game lol its supposed to be fun, not math.

Because if they're putting the thought and effort into telling a story mode around these characters, especially one with some of the most recognizable characters in all of fiction, then consistency and cohesiveness are expected. If story doesn't matter too much to devs like these, then they should take the Miyamoto approach and focus on gameplay and/or innovation. Besides, with how Netherrealm has been telling their stories lately, that would probably be for the best.
