Artillery Guy here, that Damage isnt really inaccurate on flesh / light skinned targets. Thats pretty much perfectly realistic.

i was up last night testing as well, it takes one mortar to level a small building including houses and two mortars for big buildings like churches.

the whole destruction system is obviously still work in progress, many buildings don't even have destroyed models yet, i can almost guarantee that houses will be more resistant to damage, expect something similar to arma 3

caracal discovers airburst ;) It's interesting that the effect of an airburst is a thing in Reforger. Alas we have no mortar shells that you can set to detonate before impact. In A3 with ACE3 grenades or generally explosive ordnance actually sprayed simulated shrapnel that could or could not hit someone nearby. I think once I was killed by an artillery shell that exploded ca. 100m away, because I was hit ba a shrapnel in the face. Everyone around me was fine. If you were lucky a frag grenade that exploded like 5 meters away from you would not hurt you (much) if no shrapnel hit you. I'm not sure if Reforger simulates shrapnel now, but it would be certainly technically possible and pretty cool if it would.

Could you test if the prone position lessens the likelihood of catching shrapnel?
@GLCxGLA3 сағат бұрын
6:55 could be a combination of both less fragments in soviet shells and the use of kevlar on american armor/helmets

i was just thinking this. most american amrour stats its primary protection is against fragmentation
@Stenny83343 минут бұрын
the first mortar did not land on the building, but did destroy it. you can see the mortar in the video, it lands on the left side of the central car (going from engine=forwards). you can even see the decal it left on the concrete.

Do prone characters take less damage on average? When cover isn’t available, I’m interested if it’s a better to hit the ground when you hear a shell incoming versus running away.

Going prone works with other explosions. When in doubt hit the deck.

shrapnel in reallife is very deadly and dangerous which is why even grenades are crucial in trench warfare in CQB and even open field, mortars are way more effective since theres way more shrapnel and also the possibility of air burst
@aviator22524 сағат бұрын
10 years as an artillery 13D/J and 4 with a 13F forward observer mos, the effects are good, the shrapnel is less, than it ought to be, but with each piece being simulated, it would destroy your rig calculating, on the flip, if the mortar has impact fuzing, the shrapnel is pretty limited and directed mostly up and out from the detonation point, proximity or timed fuzing will greatly increase the lethality by giving shrapnel a full 360 of travel for the shrapnel, overall its pretty good and accurate, as a 13J i appreciate the firing tables and i am glad it is native to reforger, ace was cumbersome but worth it for a3
@aviator22524 сағат бұрын
as for aftermath, 81mm there will be a 2ft by 1 ft crater, and plenty of torn up vegetation and damage to structures focused mostly about head height at about 10m assuming point detonating fuzing
@Looking4Mountains3 сағат бұрын
@@aviator2252 It will be interesting if they ever include adjustable fuze settings for the 81mm, I would like to see if they manage to get prox to work. Also I would like to know if the angle the round impacts affects the blast pattern in game. If you were a J then I assume you have experience calculating VI and know the effect it has when trying to get good affect on targets with large elevation changes. What would you think if they added the M116 howitzer to the game? Ready to play with charts and darts? -A 11C
