I think the format should be in mkv actually. So if your OBS crashes or your computer turns off, the app still saves your entire file from where it ended. If you end a recording on mp4, abruptly, there's a chance it doesn't save and even corrupt the save. Better to record in mkv and then covert to mp4 when you start editing.

this! my obs was defaulted to mkv and its been working fine. mp4 seems wrong.

@@dairyblitz OBS actually has a built in feature for it, you just have to check it in your setting and it will automatically convert after you end the recording or stream.

@@vixzzxz Yeah, I would. You CAN record in mp4, just beware of its shortcomings. Like I said in the OP. Now it’s easier than ever to use mkv because OBS now converts it to mp4 after you end the recording properly.
