Amusingly for me, my favorite Irenicus fight is actually what I think is the first time you catch up to him after the beginning of the game, and he reveals that a certain party member you may have brought with you actually works for him. It was the first time of many that Bioware made me fight someone I thought was on my side. Utterly unforgettable.

Great list! I'd add the Transcendent One, the final boss of the Planescape: Torment. For me, there hasn't been a more satisfying narrative conclusion than that, and you can finish the fight in many, many ways, including basically defeating it (which is, in essence, also defeating yourself) by your own force of will, by simply speaking to it (not unlike the Fallout 2 situation), and making it merge with you. And the implications that it brings to your own story is to this day the biggest impact that I've ever felt in a game. In a more recent memory, I'd say Raphael from BG3 deserves a top spot, that whole setting and that song - it makes the atmosphere of a fight a thing of beauty!

One of my favourite aspects of the voices is the fact that when we are in conversations either with him or people around him, he can speak to your thoughts without anyone else noticing. If you hover over the green text in game he will give you simple hints/commands and tell you too react in a certain way if you were going to side with him or to piss off someone that he doesn't quite like. It makes the character all the more creepier because he literally can speak to you in your mind, while having a completely different conversation out loud in front of you.

i am happy that a connaiseur like you appreciates tyranny so much, imo it's probably the most underrated game or at least the most underrated rpg. i personally like the ffx bossfight against jekkt. first because the game holds a special place in my heart and second i like the way the story was told through the protagonist looking back, it made the game feel personal and the last boss so much more important. it was such a relief that i finished the story but i also felt super sad because that journey was over.

For CRPG fights I'd say the Baphomet fight in Wrath of the Righteous. You have just beaten a rather tough boss when suddenly a Demon Lord, one of the rulers of hells shows up and I figured it would just be him making threats or something before vanishing, but no, he's ready to throw down, and then we get an awesome metal track playing at the same time. The fight itself wasn't super interesting but the atmosphere and just sheer surprise of it happening were great.

Ancient flying city has risen, you fight in a mythallar chamber. You destroy the crystal and city is falling. Now you have to kill Heurodis by hand (she will survive the fall of city). Music combined with visual effects with boss running around trying to kills us and our companion kobold Deekin Scalesinger trying to compose some glorious heroic epic. It really was something.

The Deacons of the Deep in Dark Souls III are up there for me. They're very easy, but I like them in concept. Like the boss isn't really the deacons; It's a spirit that possesses one of them at a time and there's a room full of them. Some deacons mindlessly form phalanxes to protect the one that is possessed and others form prayer circles to channel attacks. Godfrey/Hoarah Loux in Elden Ring is another of my favorites. He's definitely one of the coolest designs. His first form is (comparatively) civilized; He doesn't trash talk and his attacks are very measured. But then for his phase shift, he uses his bare hands to kill what appears to be his lion pelt mantle but is actually a live lion hanging on his back. He goes feral from there with a lot of aggression and using only his hands. Definitely a cool "double" boss fight.

Mr Freezes bossfight in Batman Arkham City on new game plus is really great since it requires that you figure out every possible stealth takedown (excluding 1) to beat him. Creating the ultimate stealth challenge unless you've already been creative up to that point. I also love Seven Force from Gunstar Heroes, great boss fight, just a fun and creative boss. Also I can't mention Seven Force without mentioning the tribute boss Syntax in Freedom Planet which is an awesome homage to Seven Force.

playful darkness gets a nod for me, in wrath of the Righteous. he's not a storyboss, or anything. no lore at all. (arguably thats something that would make it better.) he is telegraphed as you enter his lair, with bones everywhere, before you aggro him. so thats nice. but, some lore notes hinting at the demons avoiding his lair would be nicer. He is the first major optional boss in the game. he is the first real test. "what have you learned, and show me" I think he's so memorable as he is a death machine. but, at the same time theres quite a few strategies to beat him. he makes you review your party, what skills you have, and how you use them. this obviously does not match your standard set. but I think does make a good boss fight as well. beating playful darkness is very satisfying.

You did five; I'll do five 😁 -Liquid Ocelot (Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots) Not a difficult battle for a final boss, but the presentation of the fight itself and the ultimate culmination of these two older, grizzled rivals finishing things off once and for all, carried with it a certain sad triumph as the final blow fell. -The Bahram Fleet (Zone of the Enders 2) After spending much of the game confined to smaller arenas, it was exhilarating to finally break free and take to the skies as a fleet of colossal warships threatened to decimate your allies below. The battle had you dodging cannon fire whilst dealing with swarms of enemy craft, and finishing each warship off with a powerful, close-range blast of the Vector Cannon. -Agent Tatsuo (Syndicate, 2012) Say what you will about franchise' change in direction, Agent Tatsuo put everything you've learned so far to the test in a ceaseless hale of bullets, acrobatics, slow-mo and quick-hacking (in before Cyberpunk2077), all to a thumping soundtrack by Skrillex. -The Shadow Lord (Double Dragon II: The Revenge) The final villain of the game was a two-parter: in the first phase, he would draw you into the Realm of Shadows (complete with an ominous soundtrack) where the boss spent most the fight invisible--only ever appearing during an attack. With enough practice, and some luck, you eventually boot the coward back into the real world and into phase two, with the soundtrack changing to a more upbeat, hopeful track. The final blow was captured in slow-mo, and I remembered trying to strike a pose with the coolest move possible. -(Don't Fear) The Reaper (Cyberpunk2077) A controversial choice as I consider this secret mission a "boss-fight" in itself, despite featuring a boss in the classical sense. Story-wise, this is effectively a final-stand against the full might of the Arasaka Corporation, alone, and with V's terminal condition worse than ever. As a result, V's maximum health would constantly decline throughout the mission and (before enough players complained to CDPR about it) there were no checkpoints and no manual saving, against wave after wave of high-level enemies, effectively making almost every step towards the game's conclusion a nerve-wracking experience.

Ancestor Spirit is such a weird choice. Not a bad choice, just a weird one. All the bosses in Elden Ring are stellar and I would have a hard time picking a least favorite but if I was making a top ten Fromsoft boss list a lot of them would be from their DLC which are just mind blowing. Midir, Sister Friede, Artorias, and, my absolute favorite Fromsoft boss, Ludwig The Accursed/Holy Blade. The lore focusing on him in the base game building him up to be a key figure of the church, the contrasts he draws from Father Gascoigne, the addition of a Fromsoft staple, the Moonlight Greatsword, being added when a lot of people thought they just left it out for Bloodborne, and the music changing from chaotic and unorganized when he is in his beast form to a beautiful waltz when he regains his humanity culminates into, easily, my favorite Fromsoft boss to date. Their DLC always manages to be leagues better than the base games so if there are people who first started on Elden Ring and haven't touched any of their other games I can safely say that Shadow of the Erdtree is going to blow you away.

Vergil from DMC 5 and 3. Also the final boss of the Witcher 2. I don't remember his name, but you chase him throughout the entire game only for him to just talk to you in the arena. I remember being really shocked that it wasn't a typical boss fight. And more, he kinda convinced me that he was right. I still chose the option to fight and kill him because i wanted a final boss fight conclusion, but that felt very anticlimactic. It was a really cool experience that i hadn't experienced in a game before.

If its a general boss thing, i think last valkryie is probably my favorit. Love how each step towards it, learns and teaches you how to deal with the boss fight, and leading up to one big fight where you need to use all you have learned before hand and a few extra tricks of her own. A very memorable and satisfying boss to both learn and fight. A more recent boss i liked is Peyt-A from Granblue Fantasy Relink - Automagod, this boss is mostly for its spectable, design and music. Love it! Shin Megami Tensei IV Apocalypse's last boss have you as the protag with your demons and your friends, and the team from the game before it, fight the boss, where you need to interact with a gimmick, which is controlling 2 teams you swap between, to be able to start damaging the boss, all while having great art and fantastic music.

They’re probably not the most interesting or unique boss, but they were a wall for me and my “git gud” moment, it was insanely satisfying when something just clicked, I stopped trying to block, just dodged all their attacks, and got in my own damage. As far as actually cool bosses, Raphael from BG3. There’s just something so amusing about him attempting to manipulate and charm us all game only to finally lose his patience trying to to kill us. Such a great character. I wish the emperor had a proper boss fight and wasn’t just added to the elder brain fight if we betrayed him, felt a bit like a waste.

Bosses really do make or break some games for me. You can have really solid gameplay, story, whatever, but if your final boss sucks...? Ooft. I've had a few games where that's happened to me and it's just left a sour taste in my mouth afterwards. I got several standout favorites though: The Master (Fallout 1): While Frank is for sure up there as a great for me, The Master is something special. It's just the whole horror look he has, his ideals and fatal flaws that make him great! Talking him down or fighting him directly feels really good. (The former is preferred though as that fight can be GRUELING if not prepared) Slave Knight Gael (Dark Souls 3 Ringed City): Tragic and Epic rolled into one! Especially when you into his story. His whole two stage fight was just nothing but amazing from start to finish. Going from his sort of animal like first stage to this imposing cursed warrior had me in goosebumps! An excellent ending to a great series. I even stayed around as a summon for a long while just to experience the fight several more times! Trying to keep your host alive errr... fun. Thank Gwyn for that healing throw miracle! The Ivory King (Dark Souls 2): While not quite on Gaels level, the Ivory King from DS2 still is one of my favorites of the lot. It's one of those rare bosses that rewards exploring, and in this case, giving you 4 pretty strong (if not goofy looking) allies. The fight itself is chaotic! You have to defend yourself from these charred versions of your knight allies till they seal these gates that will keep summoning those charred knights even the Ivory King appears! The whole thing was just epic, from the start when you drop down the hole with your phantoms and Knights into this fiery hell pit to when you battle the king himself! Dark Souls 2 gets a lot of bad rap but that boss was one of the best.

Miguel in Chrono Cross. Though that's a PS1 title so I don't know if it counts. From PC games, I kinda liked the fight against Ashe in Tyranny. He seemed less evil than Voices and defeating him always felt a bit wrong on a more good-oriented play-through so it had a much bigger emotional impact on me. TBH I can't remember most of the good fights because it's been a while since I played these kinds of games. EDIT: I remembered one.. It's not technically a boss fight, but near the end of the Arrival DLC for Mass Effect 2 there is a fight in a locked room where enemies keep swarming you and you fight alone against a bunch of enemies and robots and whatnot. I _think_ it's kinda like the final fight of the DLC (not sure though). The first time I played this I played as a Vanguard class. So it's a constant rotation of Charge into an enemy, blast it with a shotgun once or twice, hide, wait a second for the cooldown to end and get shot a ton, Charge into another swarm of enemies to recharge the shields, blast them a few times, hide, repeat. It sounds boring, but it was such an awesome scene of one man against so many stronger enemies, just constantly charging into the thick of it and blasting them away one by one. Such a Shepard thing to do. It. Felt. Awesome!
