Game is great. World is beautiful. Story is good. Core gameplay loop is a lot of fetch quests but the narrative make these activities make sense. The writting and amount of dialog is great. Im fully enjoying it about 15 hours in Also I'll add im on ps5 and not 1 glitch, bug or crash.

I think we need more games like this that purely focuses on fun and diverse gameplay mechanics and traversals. Games like Infamous, Just Cause, Prototype etc can be extremely fun because you can basically just enjoy the gameplay. There should definitely be more of these games that offer you freedom. Rather than lots of open-world games of today where your gameplay is extremely limited.

The game actually looks pretty fun and I'm a sucker for this types of environments. Regarding price, I've seen it with a 35% pre-order discount on GMG bringing it down to 39$ which seems very reasonable.

Funny thing though... I don't mind the story being "like Avatar" or the open world being "like an Ubisoft game". As I mentioned, there's a strong enough core to the systems that this is one of the few games I feel justifies an Ubisoft-esque approach to open world activities. And storywise, I enjoyed it more than Avatar, if only because it isn't as painfully self-serious - the fact that this game is so silly and campy sells the plot better. I guess the upside of a poor memory is that I don't get tired of "played out" tropes, as long as they're handled well. I take every experience as its own thing.

I love elex 1 and 2. saw the jetpack flying and got immediately interested in outcast.

As someone that played a few Piranha Bytes games, I can confidentially say, jank doesn't bother me much. Still, the price point does. After watching the early impressions and this, I do want to play it, but I'll wait for a sale and hopefully by then there is some clean up in regards to the technical state. Corrupted saves would definitely bug me more than crashes.

I've played the original when it came out in 1999. It was truly amazing at the time. And I also paid 50€ for this game and finished it at 100%. This review is really spot on.

Agreed on the price, it's a bit too much at full price. I'm enjoying the hell out of Outcast, much more than I expected. Just a bit too expensive at full. At £30-35, strong recommend.

Thanks friend. Really hoping they get the bugs worked out and the price comes down. I love the look of it and the traversal. The combat really reminds me of the Mass Effect 3 co-op multiplayer gameplay. Will keep it on the wishlist.

Combat is closer to ME Andromeda. That's not bad because Andromeda, for all its faults, has the best combat in the series.

I'm not understanding the hate towards this, sure it's no uncharted but I'm enjoying this immensely that music is gorgeous and really draws you into it's world, I can handle some jank so it's no game killer for me, and George Clooney? Is that you playing the main protagonist? No Ubisoft involved or Disney so double win for me, I truly hope it sells well enough that we get a trilogy, it's a cool cruisy and chill game, that music tho is pretty wholesome and I'm quite taken on how well it's done, no micro trans nonsense or live service garbage, I came away on how much I've enjoyed it, thanx for your review on this i really do appreciate the effort you put into your reviews

This game is the very definition of AA jank.....and I love these sorts of games. The issue for me isn't the "generic" map....which I think I will enjoy exploring, but the performance that is just literally all over the place.....regular frame drops from 100+ to mid 40's and DLSS that is buggy as there is no change in performance no matter what setting you change. They need to patch this game up ASAP.....else forget about profits, they may not even break even. It's sad really, as people it seems, want the AA scene back.

I feel like I missed whether it supports manual saving--heard about the auto-save corruption experience of course. But I need to pay more attention to save mechanics review.

For those complaining about the price, there is a 2017 remaster of the first game (called Second Contact) on sale for $1.49 on Steam. Should wet your appetite until this one gets more favorable pricing.

Sometimes you play a game you love so much that you're a little sad when it finishes; That was my experience with Outcast back in '99; The installer had a bug which meant you couldn't install it unless you had DirectX 5 installed, consequently it was 20 years before I replayed it on STEAM, and after another 6 months I played Outcast Second Contact. Outcast had just enough missions for it to be fun but not overstay it's welcome --- Outcast: A New Beginning was fun but I would have been happy if it had ended about five hours earlier; the side quests were a chore, I would have enjoyed a few more unique missions instead of all those tedious orym quests. Moving about the world is great... eventually, as are the weapons... eventually. There's no scope for much creativity in how you take on the bases so it's just a case of blast aimlessly until it's over, I wouldn't want to replay any of them, as opposed to a game like Wolfenstein or Far Cry 6 where the general shooting is so great and the levels so good that you actively want to play them again and again. The story was functional. The interface a little janky but not Cyberpunk 2077 levels of bafflement. I don't see myself replaying this. Not even in 20 years.

I agree with the pricing. I'm really interested in this, but at £60 it's too much. I'm still playing Banishers which itself was priced sensibly for a AA game, as well as replaying Control from Gamepass. Am going to wait for this to be closer to £40.

Fan of the first game here. I think you did a pretty fair review while I have seem a lot of people bashing the game excessively . Being a fan of the first game sure helps to keep you going with the story and Environnement. I buyed it at 50 euros on launch so it was Ok. I think if this was a 40 dollars game the reviews would have been better.

My gripe with the story is that this basically ditches most of the lore that fae talan are badass fighters with personal weaponry on par with earths back in the original and says they just got run over by a small contingent of humans.

How in the freshest of hells did you get all the diaries? Those things are crazy hard to track down. I also had an achievement bug out entirely. You ever consider making walkthroughs for collectibles so people can 100% games easier? Hah! Personally, I enjoyed the game a lot. The movement systen is pretty great, the gun customization is top shelf, and the story and world and characters are full of cheesy 90s sci-fi charm. But the ending felt rushed and the game's full of bugs (including constant craehes on my PC), and while I do feel like parkour and combat like this can actually justify the way the open world activities were designed (like - I get the impression they designed the challenges around their strongest core systems), I do wish it had a little more to those activities. Overall it's a solid 8 or so for me. Man, I hope they make an Outcast 3 and really kick the design up a notch. The price I assume is just because it's pretty frickin' expensive to make games like this, honestly. Edit: Awkward voice acting? I loved all the ones I heard, honestly. The silly accents are all a little quirk of the alien magic translation, I figured. And now that you mention it, that crash description lines up perfectly with my most common one, although I had a couple more different issues.

The menu screen for them gives you hints about the ones youre missing, and they shine really brightly when you get anywhere nearby

The original I was a fan of though needed a beefy cpu as was not 3d accelerated. One thing about the original game...the names of places people and items there was just something about them that would never stick in my memory....apart from the gaamsaav crystal lol

The manual had a dictionary for the most commonly used words of the language. The first game was way more about exploring the unknown dimension/world and figuring out what happened to your team than it was about shooting.

I recently played ac odyssey and feel like this review fit that game too. I probably missed you saying what the download size is. I feel like a lot of these Ubisoft games are huge downloads which I then end up deleting 5 days later to free up space for many better games. Last Ubisoft game I loved was AC Origins.

Been playing on PS5 for approx. 30 hours... I've been enjoying it. The writing and some characters are a bit goofy which was definitely on purpose. The gameplay and traversal are fun. I've only had one crash (so far) with no "t-posing" whatsoever. The sound has bugged out a few times... but saving and reloading fixed that.

Because of the great traversal and the beautiful environment, exploration is fun and that is rare these days in open world games. I cant remember when was last time i paused the main story and just run loose. But those shrines and chasing the essence was so annoying at times i almost rage quit.

Thank you for this. Most of the time I already own and have at least started playing a game when I see your review, but I played the demo on this one and felt the janky nature. Despite that I did have fun. So this was a perfect wait and see what you had to say title. Based on your comments, the game is exactly what I thought it would be and I think I will wait until it is on sale as it is not an "urgent" title for me, but I do want to play it.

Game gets buggier as you play. There's also a bug with the flying mount thing you get, if you stay mounted on it and open up the map, you can get back and get stuck in the map screen unable to do anything. So yeah, its kinda janky in places. But when its fun its really fun.

Not only are they asking full price for this, they also ended the discount period on the day Steam's spring sale started. Making it one of the few games that aren't discounted during the sale. Pretty much ensuring that it gets passed over by anyone who's looking for a good deal right now.

Weird pricing on this one, perhaps even an error, but this is $60 CAD on Steam whereas the AAA price is $80-90 CAD now. Then if you go on Fanatical with the coupon it's $50 CAD, a substantial discount compared to AAA prices. It's super strange seeing at $60 USD on Steam.

I rarely write you but I came up with a question that intrigues me and possibly might you... All said, said about Outcast 2... If you had to ~in some time replay one of the two games: This one (Outcast 2) or Star Field (or whatever that one was called). Of course the good part is you don`t have to replay any of them :P, but if you had to... under the condition that replaying one of them will deny you (just for the sake of the argument) forever the other... Which one is gonna be... The mega super glorified 10 years worth of development Star Field... or out of the nowhere Outcast 2? :P

I played the original one on a demo disc back in who knows when and watched Funhaus play the same demo a few years ago. It's just best experienced that way, in a very short janky good time to get frustrated and laugh at.

I liked the first one (and the remake) despite that they can get a bit repetative and the mechanics are not too deep.I just like traversing the world, it is so pretty. The second game appears to be the same - a pretty world and much going on otherwise. I would like to play it but not at the initial price.

Loved the first game. The open world aspect was a game changer. The dialog was funny as Cutter is a down to earth protagonist. The chick getting vaporized was wild. Also, the puzzles that you had to solve were challenging. It’s nostalgic for me so I’ll drop $60 for it.

No surprise there ! I had it on my wishlist and I was very hyped, I didn't know the original but I remembered how everybody was talking about it back then. So, I went on youtube and watched a walkthrough of the game... I was already "meh" ! And then, as time went on, I kept on watching videos of the game, what were the promises and so on... and I got less and less hyped, ended up removing from my wishlist at all. And I'm Belgian so knowing this license comes from my country, I should have supported them but nah ! I just couldn't when I saw this ubisoft-like gameplay with tons of activities which are not even relevant to the game and honnestly made think about Superman on the N64.

It's weird, because the original was not at all like the standard open worlds that this game imitates. It was very much more like kotor or mass effect, where the open world had some exploration, but was more for the progression of the story and characters. They probably made the sequel more like standard Ubisoft open worlds to get a broader audience, but then lost what made the original so special.

That's what I was thinking too. I can't help but wonder if smaller, hand-crafted areas that are dense with things to do were more difficult to make compared to a bigger, somewhat empty world.

As much as I agree that this game is too expensive, 60$ is no longer default AAA price, it's 70$. Virtually all big publishers hiked the price from 60 to 70 in this generation.
