I am an active duty Army 92G. You don't have to take my advice but I would recommend looking at other options. Do not be an active duty cook in the military. If you still insist on being an active duty military cook, then I would say at least try to consider Air Force "Services" than Army 92G because at least Air Force services don't have to slave like hogs in the motor pool or field when they aren't cooking like Army 92G's do, and also Air Force services aren't made to do ruck marches and other stupid things for PT like Army 92G's do and STILL have to be in the DFAC.
@golfery51193 жыл бұрын
If you insist on being a cook in the military, my advice would be to do it in either national guard or reserves (and even then I would recommend doing Air Force guard or reserves because of the fact that you would get shorter deployments if you deploy and other things). But I would advise you that no matter how much you enjoy cooking or the fact that you have a culinary degree, to not be a military cook at all. Your degree may get you in as an E3 or even an E4 but you are still a lower enlisted member (which is going to be worse in the Army than in Air Force since Army treats lower enlisted more like children), but it is not going to mean much if anything as a 92G (and probably even an Air Force Services). You'd still have to follow a strict recipe card or what the sergeants in charge tell you they want you to do. Please take this into consideration from an Army cook on active duty: All jobs in the military have some stress in them but rest assured that military cook *IS A VERY HIGHLY STRESSFUL MOS* with a whole lot of headache and heartache. You will see a whole lot of games played on the lower enlisted by the sergeants (keeping lower enlisted standing around forever after they are done before letting them go) and once in a while you'll see heated arguments or worse breaking out. You will see this MOS listed as one of the worst MOS for good reason. It does really, really suck and I've even had sergeants in this MOS admit that. Not to mention the MOS is not only emotionally stressful but physically stressful as well. Your body will hurt doing it on top of the bad hours you'll have. I can go into a lot more detail, but bottom line is think long and hard about doing this MOS, and if you insist on it, what branch you want to do it in (meaning Army or Air Force or Navy) and what component (meaning active duty or national guard or reserve)

1:25 to 1:35 Yup that is all the intelligence you need to become a cook. Brainless job. Try to become any other mos. Don’t worry if you fail that mos, 95% chance the army will make you a cook.
@thisguy18682 жыл бұрын
They make you a cook because that mos is always understrength. Once cooks see how bad it is they do everything in their power to get kicked out and be done with the army and the abuse it is. Cook is bar none the worst mos in the army, and I couldn't be happier I got myself kicked out of the army.

Can't say that 100 percent all the time. I mean fellow cooks i deployed with still found some time to screw around female soldiers (at least fraternize if not outright screw, which a few actually did) and also drink themselves stupid when we did have time off. And we usually worked six days a week and sometimes seven and there were times when we had to do all day action from 0530to after 1900.

But yeah most of us hate out lives including so many of the ones who stay in and become sergeants. I've seen several e5s just look for any excuse to not be in the dfac and one e5 told me a few days ago she out herself in culinary class again just so she won't be in the dfac. Speaking of culinary I really hope not too many people will fall for the scam shown in this video.

@@BrezzyEntertainment1 youre reserves, so it won't be as bad as active duty. But the field will still be horrible. And when you go to ntc, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. If you think a 12 hour day is bad.... you'll be doing 15+ hours every day for a month straight in 130 degree heat, plus the heat of your burners. I was an active duty 92g. There isn't enough paper in the world to print the amount of money, or enough gold in fort knox to make me do this mos again.

@@thisguy1868 I am pissed that just this month the army decided to shorten the reenlistment window from 15 months to 13 months. Had it still been fifteen months my window would be this upcoming January now I gotta stay stuck as a cook till April. I so regret not doing a three year contract instead of signing for five years.i could have been out of this most a while ago. The retention sergeant told me that if I get my promotable status he can show me some mos where I don't have to be in my window (though he hasn't told me what those are) but my e5s keep jerking me around and won't recommend me for the board or blc even though they claim in their counselings that my job performance is good but they don't think I'm ready but they claim they'll work with me. Lately they actually been putting x marks for "agree" on the counselling and only showing me the counselings in text message because they know I'll put "disagree" I really wish I could go back and do this differently. The toxicity of my leadership as well as having one of the most toxic mos around is too much.

@@golfery5119 dude, I'm glad I'm not a cook anymore. People I know back at my old duty station that are cooks have been working ada for weeks, new leadership, management, and everything is toxic af and uses ada as a mass punishment now. Which I can totally believe. There is no winning in that mos. There will always be something for them to complain isn't clean enough, isn't done right, isn't to their liking, even though 4 people told you 5 different things. I dont miss coming in at 0445 and sometimes not leaving until 2200 and having to he back at 0445 the next day and do it all over again. Every dfac should have an EO rep and some kind of officer or sergeant major overseeing the ncos and do some kind of check in at least once a week to make sure the soldiers aren't being mistreated or abused. 92g is an mos full of abuse, and poor leadership. If anyone ever says they like that mos, they either aren't one, are lying, or have never left admin... or like a certain few female nco's and soldiers, got out of everything by by sucking and fucking their way out of everything.

@golfery51192 жыл бұрын
Don't feel too bad because you aren't by yourself. I myself had a degree as well as a high asvab score (88 AFQT) and got into this MOS but that was because of bad timing (joined way too late and was at the point where I was unable to wait for anything better to open). And yeah I also knew this MOS wasn't going to be good, but wasn't prepared for just how absolutely miserable and sucky it is. I recently reclassed and can't wait to start my new AIT in a month in a half from now.

Why do you hate it so much?
@golfery51192 жыл бұрын
@@marlonmoncrieffe0728 The only thing I liked about being a cook (can't count my chickens and say I'm no longer a cook just yet because I have to pass my new AIT and if don't pass it, it's back to being a cook) was when we are in the DFAC (as opposed to the field and motorpool), and we have food left over (not all the time) we can eat more than what the "customers" are served. There were also times, especially on first shift, where being a cook wasn't so bad because we (usually, not all the time, but usually) didn't have to do PT (I LOVE to work out but I HATE army's organized PT aka "PRT," that's one of the many reasons why I wish I had have listened and joined the air force instead of the army) or a stupid morning formation in the cold or be in the motorpool (if I was scheduled to be in the DFAC that day instead of the motorpool) or some stupid pointless ruck march. Basically, stupid army stuff, especially forscom nonsense that makes you wish you had have joined the air force instead where they either do that crap less if they do it at all. Other than that, I can't honestly think of anything good about being a military army cook and on one of my last days when I was clearing, even one of my companies E6's told me " *fucking move. get out of this MOS* "
@thisguy18682 жыл бұрын
@@marlonmoncrieffe0728 because you work all day every day, hardly get time off, and if that time off doesn't fall on a Saturday or Sunday, they have you doing bs in the motor pool. When you go to the field, you might get 2 hours a sleep a night if you're lucky, and you won't get to sharpen your skills as a soldier. You'll just be working. While everyone else is either sleeping, or doing the cool army training. There isn't enough paper in the world to print the amount of money it would take to make me be a cook in the army again.

Show the parts where you'll work every weekend, holiday, donsa, shutdown for inclement weather, from 0445 until sometimes 2200. Or show the field where you won't do any training, might only get 2 hours of sleep a night for weeks at a time. While you cook for everyone else that goes to ranges and gets actual experience. Or show the schools you won't be able to attend because the dfac won't let you.
