it took me a while to get into this podcast. been a long time fan of the original crew from jbp. when they all split up i took a break from them even though i was very proud that Rory & Mal started their own. its been maybe 2-3 years since then and decided to give them another listen. i'm pleased because the podcast is great. i think the entire cast works well together.. even when Eddin was there. ive only caught a few episodes of jbp & i just can't listen to it. Joe's spark has dwindled & just seems to be doing a day job instead of that passion that used to be there when Rory & Mal were involved. you can really tell he just treats them as employees. i can comfortably watch this in the background while i'm working & feel at ease. also the thumbnails/skits really make light of Mal's otherwise "too cool" persona which was a great addition; love the merch & individuality as well. you guys have proven you can stand your own ground. i hope to see you guys build further in the new year 🖤

Appreciate the discussion about fatherhood at the end there. I'm about to have my first son and I'm worried about what I'm going to convey as far as masculinity is concerned in conjunction with what it means to be a black man in America. Honestly, I don't fall into stereotypes within our culture. I grew up overseas (parents were in the military), so my experiences are WILDLY different from my peers and contemporaries out here. In addition to that, I carry myself in a more alternative way. My best friend group growing up is probably the most diverse collection of individuals you could come across. I played guitar in a punk band in high school. Skated. Still listen to emo music to this day. Yadda yadda yadda. But in a lot of ways, my home life was very typical. Fortunately I had both my parents up until I was 16. I have a good foundation. My father in particular was extremely supportive of whatever I was into. Even when I stopped playing basketball and started playing rugby ("What the fuck do you know about rugby???" were his exact words to me kind of confused but still showed up to my games). So, maybe I'm overthinking shit, but I'd like to be like my father. My goal is to be as supportive as possible, ensure the physical, mental, and emotional health of my son, and just be present. The rest I'll figure out as I go and try and emulate behaviors that I see in men that I personally respect. Plus both my pops and my fiancée's dad are really present in our lives and they are fucking excellent men! Long story long, glad y'all have cultivated a space where we can have open conversations about these topics. It's important and a fundamental tenant of building out a positive community. Cheers to y'all! ...come back to Seattle 😅

Ok, I really mess with ya’ll Rory & Mal, I genuinely think you are cool as ppl. Let me give you something to consider: Drake is Pop as he does whatever is popular and excels at it. Unfortunately,Hip hop is counter culture, by definition means what is not popular. Furthermore, Hip hop can create a “Pop “ not the reverse. Pop can’t create Hip Hop. The elements of counterculture must derive from a disenfranchised essence, a soul, a blues or a struggle against the mainstream.Drake is to Hip Hop what Sean Paul is to Dancehall, what Jake Paul is to Boxing, and to a degree , Rich Paul to Sports agency and management. As such that is either they changed or killed their respective industries.

J Cole and Kendrick are like the beloved sons, who kept their heads down, married a nice lady and continue the family traditions. Drake is the son that’s successful but doesn’t live how his parents approve and has been swallowed and changed by the world. Bringing outside women around and setting a bad example for the kids, but make no mistake, he’s successful and unfortunately influential. He followed the oldest brother, Kanye and they get the most excuses made for them because of their dynamism, like the favorite son who on paper is a fuck up but they are endearing every time.
