One of the greatest fighting aeroplanes in the history of aviation, the Messerschmitt Bf 109 was always at the forefront of world fighter design and, just like its adversary the Spitfire, was in constant development throughout the Second World War.
Major variants of the fighter usually coincided with developments in the Daimler Benz engine which powered the Messerschmitt. Of the five major variants, the F or 'Friedrich' is usually considered the most refined version of the Bf 109.
Introduced during the spring of 1941, the Bf 109F was superior to RAF Spitfires in service at that time and was flown by many successful Luftwaffe aces.

It's worth mentioning that the paints now supplied in the starter sets are perfectly usable but do need to be thinned down with water, I feel that Airfix could've mentioned tinning the paint on the info sheet rather than just stirring the paint as this may not be obvious to an absolute beginner.

The propellor needs to be placed into the two half`s of the fuselage before it is glued together for it to turn.

I don't think they're stencils - looks more like they tell you which way around to put the fuselage band, which I think is actually a really neat idea.

The silhouette stands are great. I hadn't built a model wheels up for years but did with the Spitfire Vc and it looks great. I'll grab the P-51 Bf 109F dogfight double and do the same with those.

A nice little kit, perfect for beginners, or also for who want to start a collection of the Me109's family. I'm glad that Airfix did made this version, also if not well known as its BoB's forerunner, the E, it was a very dangerous opponent for the RAF, expecially in the early N. African campaign, it was Marseille's favourite fighter. P.s. the dogfight double box with the P51 and the Me109f should be corrected by Airfix, when the P51D entered in service, the F version had been replaced out with the G one, that had started to deploy in mid 1942, so would've been more correct insert a Me109G in the box, on the contrary the 2nd box , Spit MkV vs Me109F is correct. (yes I know, it's pedantic!)

The nose “intake” is the oil cooler, and the wing “intakes” are the radiators for engine coolant. The radiators could be operated independently so that, if one was damaged, the pilot could isolate it to preserve remaining coolant and use the remaining radiator to get back to base.

Isn't part a5 supposed to have exhaust stacks both sides? Yours seems to only have them on one side? Edit.... I have bought the kit and it's hidden by a shroud so it's ok.

You had any probs with these start kits and the releasing agent ? I got 2 last week, and no matter how much I washed them and cleaned them, there was a film on the parts that made it really hard to get any paint to stick. I tried a few primers as well

Haha going to whitby this week so will pick up the Shannon lifeboat from rnli themselves (then get the decals to do it was whitbys boat). That one kit the wife's liking so I'm allowed. I'll have to get the mustang & bf109 pack from my local shop, Redcar Models & Hobbies, then sneak it into the house!

This size brush is USELESS other than for small detailed work so why do Airfix continuen to avoid incled a wide flat brush for oerall painting?...there is no way a starter is going to get a streak free paint finish using that brush and those paints.... lets call a spade a spade
