Learn how to do mosaic crochet in this tutorial video for beginners. Hi I'm Donna Wolfe from Naztazia. In this video I show you the basics of mosaic crochet. Mosaic crochet is a derivative of mosaic knitting, which was popularized by Ms. Barbara G. Walker several decades ago. There are several different techniques and this is just one of them.
The basket weave design is created by making a series of stitches, including single crochet, chain twos, and double crochet two rows below. By reading and following along with the chart, you can make this easy dishcloth in 100% cotton yarn. You can also choose to make these blocks in acrylic or another fiber, then sew or crochet them together for a nice blanket.
For this sample I'm using worsted weight yarn and a size G 4 mm crochet hook. Feel free to use a larger hook when you are first practicing.

Wow!! You have made this concept in the simplest description that I actually understand! This type of crochet looks fun snd I think I’ll have to try it soon! (After I finish the project I’m doing right now of course, I have a bad habit of starting projects before I finish one so I’m trying to stop that lol) Thank you for this easy tutorial! You always break down different crochet techniques simply and easy to understand!

For row 9 and 10 the all have dark pink .. so for the blocks without the X do we single crochet ? Or chain up 2 n skip it ?

So many questions. I've been haunting ravelry and youtube trying to learn more about mosaic crochet. There seem to be at least two different approaches, maybe more? Will you be expanding on this? What about gauge? Should I go down a hook size to keep it tight? I'll try this sample as soon as I finish this baby blanket (3 more rounds). Thank you. - one more question: Why do some patterns have all these cut ends?
@naztazia
@naztazia 2 жыл бұрын
The method I show in the video is the "easiest" way to do mosaic crochet "for beginners." Depending upon the design, other techniques might be needed to achieve a certain look, including some of the methods you mentioned.

I hope I can do this I'm new to chrochet and it looks hard when you have symbols that mean mutible things on the back side it's a SC on the front it's a DC...🙏 hope I'm understanding this correct..
@naztazia
@naztazia 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are. Each block is ultimately read twice, since each block represents two rows. On the first time reading the block across for the first row, you'll do a DC two rows below on the X blocks. On the second time reading the same block for the next row, you'll do a single crochet. It makes more sense when you actually try it.

It's still confusing, you have 2 different explanation with x blocks.
@naztazia
@naztazia 2 жыл бұрын
Each block is read twice, one time (for example) for Row 5, then the same block is read for Row 6. With blocks that have X's on them, you'll only do the DC on the Row 5. When you go back and read the same blocks for Row 6, you'll just do a single crochet for X blocks.

All those ends 😩

What do you mean? Since you are carrying the yarn up the sides, there are only 4 ends to weave in once completed (dark pink start/end and light pink start/end).

I love your videos but this is not mosaic crochet. Mosaic Crocheted it worked right to left very row there is no turning and no chains in the body of the work.
@naztazia
@naztazia 2 жыл бұрын
You have not done your homework on Mosaic crochet. Mosaic knitting came about in the 1960s. Since then, crocheters have attempted to mimic the look of Mosaic knitting. There are at least 4 different methods on how one can mimic Mosaic knitting designs by using crochet, both in rounds and in rows. One includes the method I show, one includes what you mention, plus at least 2 more options.
