So glad I found your channel. My husband used to make beautiful stained glass pieces. Several years ago he had an accident that almost cost him his thumb, so doing the detail work he was doing is really hard. I have neuropathy left over from chemo so doing the jewelry/miniatures I liked to do is almost impossible now. We been looking for projects we can do with all the glass he still has. You have given me some wonderful ideas. Thank you

Hi cl! Welcome to my channel!😊 It's great to hear you found some value from my videos and are getting back to working with glass in a new way. You and her husband have tons of positivity.✨ Here's a playlist with all of the glass-related projects on my channel. I think you'll find some inspiration in there (kzbin.info/aero/PLDyDBysO6HCZV3_PMuVuNgjQEAZ4a444v). Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥

Hi Julie, I’ve been waiting (im)patiently for your video on using irregular, curved and different shapes of dishes as tesserae. Have I missed it? Right now, though, a specific question is on arranging, gluing and grouting overlapping pieces such as the large tail feathers in a rooster piece. Do you have suggestions, cautions and ideas? Thanks for for great videos. Love ‘em!

Hi Diane! It's great to hear you're enjoying my videos. I appreciate your support!😊 I have a number of videos here on my channel using pieces of irregular, curved, or just plain odd-shaped tesserae from plates, bowls, and mugs (playlist: kzbin.info/aero/PLDyDBysO6HCZ4p7Y8BvriDiN6KHUAMmZ2). As for overlapping tesserae as you're describing, I would use a heavy-duty adhesive that can hold up the weight, which would be thinset-mortar (video on thinset: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4aTlKdpZ6iIo6M). Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🙌

HI Julie, I am a new subscriber so was late to the party with my question. I am mostly a watercolour artist but I am 58 years old and have ADHD so my attention is inclined to drift easily to exciting new projects where I spend a fortune getting set up only to find I am back painting again 3 months later. I found you because I am a re-seller of antique ceramics and glass and have a big box of pieces that are chipped or cracked that I wanted to re-purpose and your videos have really inspired me. I would like to know if I could do just one fairly large mosaic with the plates and bowls I have and if I could use the tile grout and adhesive left over from tiling my bathroom, and, at the very least what tools would I need to make it work? I just don't want to spend more money that I can't afford only to discover this is not for me and I have yet another pile of craft supplies gathering dust. I am really excited about it now though and would love to give it a try and these old plates are so ornate and beautiful I would love to see how they could be used to create a new image. I have a lot of curved surfaces though and not so many flat. What would you suggest for a person like me wanting to try this out with the materials I have? Your videos are great and you are an excellent teacher so thank you for that. Greetings from Ireland ☘☘☘☘

Hi Dearbhla! First off, thanks for subscribing! Welcome!✨ Secondly, my Grandfather's side of the family is from Ireland (I'm a Galvin) and I had the great pleasure of visiting your country about 17 years ago. GORGEOUS!☘ Regarding a project using plates, bowls, and mugs...that's called pique assiette and you'll want to check out this playlist here (kzbin.info/aero/PLDyDBysO6HCZ4p7Y8BvriDiN6KHUAMmZ2) to get some project inspiration. As for tools, you'll want to pick up a pair of wheeled glass nippers (amzn.to/3pXePpv), and/or if you have thicker pieces of tesserae a pair of tile nippers (amzn.to/3PYnmmx) will be able to handle the job. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥

Pls tell me again how I find the things you make references to in the video, like the links etc. I’ve clicked the 3-dot thing but found nothing.

Hi Trisha! Under the video is a description (block of text) and at the end of it you'll see 'show more.' Click on that and it will expand to reveal all sorts of information from my fave tools/materials, to items I used in the video, and videos that I think would help you out with the topic of the video you're currently watching. If you're watching on a mobile device, you'll want to click the down arrow to the right of the video title. Hope that helps! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥

So great! Thanks so much! I'm a bit intimidated by thinset mortar. Can it be found in smaller quantities? I don't really have room for the large bags. Also, is there a particular brand or type of thinset that you prefer? Love your channel!

Hi Dawn! I just got started with mosaics in January... and I live in a smallish apartment, so not much room here either. I am using pre-mixed thinset that comes in 1 quart containers. I think it's called Simple Set (got it on Amazon and they sell it at Home Depot, too). Overall it's more expensive, but it's worth it for not having to store large bags and also not having to deal with the powder in a small space.

@@EricaGamet Thank you so much, Erica! This is so great to know...I will definitely check it out. Happy mosaicing!!

@@dawnokel5975 It's perfect, unless you want a range of colors (since there are powdered pigments for the powdered mortar). You're limited to I think 2 greys or white (if there is a black premixed, I haven't found it yet). I've had good luck putting small amounts of acrylic paint in the mix to change the color... but I'm aware that it can change the consistency and possibly the efficacy of the adhesive. I'm only using it for indoor art pieces, and I haven't noticed a difference, yet. Happy mosaicking to you, too!

howdy from 'sticksville', South Dakota! i get powdered thinset, and 'outdoor grout' (gray and black), in 10 lb bags (they have larger, also), at the local lowes. i store the opened bag in a one gallon zipper bag, and keep it in an empty cat litter bucket. that keeps the open bag away from the 'corn sweat' humidity around these parts. good luck and have fun!

Hi Judith! What's your question?🤔
@judojohn112 жыл бұрын
@@JulieWeilbacher oh sorry I thought I wrote my question out. I have a large cement raccoon I want to make Mosaic on. What's the best for adhesive to use to put the tiles on with? It will be displayed in the yard next summer. I was think Weld would be good. Then maybe not.
