Come with me to explore GUM, which can only be described as the most beautiful shopping mall I’ve ever seen.
Located just off of the Red Square it is one of Moscow’s main tourist attractions. So, sit back and relax as we take a tour. Enjoy the amazing architecture of this historic site.

No. It’s the most beautiful mall I’ve ever seen. Russia is so much better than everywhere else. There are no drunken, homeless people or murderers or odd looking people like in our terrible shopping malls. It’s amazing. Not like that Collective West shopping mall that we have to go to 😢

In the US that's a normal, middle class expense for breakfast. What I find most impressive is that, unlike the US (and probably the UK as well), very few obese or morbidly obese people. I'd say 1 in 3 in the US is normal, and people don't have their faces planted into a device either, they're actually enjoying their magnificent surroundings, using them only to snap a picture here and there. I love Russia.

There are plenty of places in Russia far more dismal than Leeds. Every country has glorious places especially in the heart of its capital city. However, having lived in Russia on and off since the 90s and was in G.U.M. shopping centre when it was barely hanging on, it is amazing how it and Moscow as a whole has improved so much and has become a comparatively clean city compared to the disaster of the 90s. I also appreciate the Russian love for literature and young people are generally more cultured. It is sad that Russia/West relations have deteriorated so much again. Russia has many flaws too and maybe a strong man like Putin was needed for a bit to recover from the chaos of the 90's, but now he has overstepped and brought tragedy to millions. Whilst bustling shopping malls may give the impression that all is fine and dandy, the economic, political and social heart of Russia is not well.

@@jonathansimmonds3758 More than half the world will not agree with you; it was you, the Western countries, who crossed the line, imagining themselves to be superhumans and bringing only suffering to the world for many centuries and doing so now. After you, only ruins and plundered countries remain; it is worth remembering what you did under a far-fetched pretext with Yugoslavia, Iraq, Libya, Syria and so on. Over the past hundred years, you have destroyed or subjugated dozens of countries, making them your colonies. It was you who staged a coup in our allied state of Ukraine in 2014. It was not Putin who started the war, the war has been going on for 10 years in Ukraine, Russians are being killed. Putin has simply run out of patience and now he is destroying the Nazi Zelensky regime, which is simply a puppet in Western hands, and Ukraine is meat in the fight against Russia. Stop reading Western propaganda and you will all understand who is on the side of truth and goodness. And to your disappointment, it is not you and not your states that are on the side of good.

There are many people living in Russia not speaking Russian. First. In big cities, especially in Moscow, many people, especially those who are younger, speak English on certain level, maybe all of them. English is mandatory course in all Russan secondary and high schools. Second, many people living in Russia with no knowledge of Russian use mobile applications, like Yandex translator, so you say phrase to your smartphone and it immediately translates and generates audio with translated phrase, so people, can communicate. Third, there are some communities of people from different countries in Russia, where you can be in contact with your contrymen. Fourth, Russian language is not that difficult to learn. In some features it's simpler than English.

At first glance, it seems that foreign tourists for the most part do not go further than Red Square, Tretyakov Gallery and GUM. The most desperate go to VDNKh and Vorobyovy Gory, and those who are absolutely crazy go on a tour of the Moscow metro. But this is not quite true. Although a promenade along the classic sights of the capital is mandatory, some foreign tourists from the breed of the particularly curious find places, sometimes unknown to the aborigines themselves. That is, for us. That's what they consider hidden gems in Moscow and nearby. 1. "Childhood Castle" On the way from Domodedovo airport to the territory of the State Farm named after Lenin is an unusual kindergarten, built in the form of a fairy-tale castle and decorated in all the colors of the rainbow. Around it there are the same bright and original playgrounds where children frolic during walks. Foreigners are not too inventively calling it Russian Disneyland. The structure vaguely resembles the German Neuschweinstein, which is especially pleasing to visiting guests. 2. Golos ravine Golosov ravine in Kolomenskoye is a mystical place, although there is nothing visually outstanding about it. Previously, unexplained events took place there and, they say, even people and animals disappeared without a trace. For example, in the 16th century, during the retreat from Moscow, an entire Tatar cavalry detachment was lost in it. Then the horsemen suddenly appeared at the walls of the palace of the Russian tsar a few decades later - they claimed that they had fallen behind the army of Khan Devlet Giray. Khan himself had long been history by that time. We do not undertake to judge how true the story is, but there are still enough mystical fans at Golosov Ravine. 3. "Camera" "Camera" is an allegedly secret factory-laboratory for the production of toxic substances in the Soviet Union, founded in 1921. According to legend, poisons were created there, which were subsequently tested on political prisoners. Very little is known about the laboratory and its activities, including its exact location. Therefore, intourists are terribly interested - they look at satellite photos of some large building in the Leninsky district of the Moscow region (it was not possible to find out exactly why) and dream of visiting the dungeons of the great and terrible K.G.B. Ballet, "Game of Thrones" and fashion show: the most unusual events of the Moscow subway. 4. The State Darwin Museum The State Darwin Museum has 3 floors and more than 5,000 exhibits. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century - it is believed that at that time it was the world's first museum of natural history. Tourists are especially impressed by the hall with dinosaur models and an impressive collection of birds, they also praise the technical equipment and interactive exhibitions. 5. Monument to Yuri Gagarin The sculpture of Yuri Gagarin ascending, installed in 1980 just before the opening of the Olympic Games in Moscow, towers over Leninsky Prospekt by as much as 43 meters. The mighty figure of the cosmonaut seems to cover the Earth, and his gaze directs further and higher into the Universe. Foreigners consider this monument to be one of the brightest in Moscow and strive to see it live: the monument really impresses with its scale and symbolism. And the factories are standing! The best industrial excursions in and near Moscow. 6. "Golden brains" According to a number of foreign guests, the building of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences on Leninsky Prospekt is one of the most mysterious and unique projects of Soviet architecture. The bizarre metal structures that crown the structure are called golden brains - the bends of the metal in the light of sunlight vaguely resemble convolutions. Some foreigners even believe that these iron hulks were used for mass zombification of people. Yes, before the invention of cell towers, we had to get out somehow. 7. Bunker-703 The former Cold War document repository in the Zamoskvoretsky district of the capital is another coveted object for our foreign friends. It was declassified only in 2018, and now you can get there with a guided tour. The entrance to the bunker is located in an inconspicuous gray building, and the premises are located at a depth of 30 m underground. And here everything is for real. 8. The Museum Intourists rather poetically call it the park of fallen monuments. They come here to look at the mutilated busts of Stalin, statues of Lenin, Dzerzhinsky and the overthrown coats of arms of the Indestructible. And they also believe that the clusters of contemporary art in the Museum do not fit well with the Soviet heritage and do not understand why all this was placed in one space.

While the Grand Kremlin Palace is officially listed at Putin's residence, he of course, doesn't really live there. One of his many properties is located at Novo-Ogaryovo. Then there is Putin's Palace in Sochi. ГУМ/Gum is acronym for Glavnyi Universalnyi Magazin, which translates to "Main Universal Store. (Main Department Store)." During my first visit, it was called the "State Department Store." It was changed to "Main" after the fall of the USSR. There are various cities that have a "GUM." Moscow's is the most famous. I wish I'd had a smart phone during my first visit back in Jan of 89. What a dive! Large lines for crappy products, dark, damp, and decrepit. Now? It's only for the high rollers. Prada, Boss, Chanel, etc. Prior to Russia's unjustified war in Ukraine, I did hit the grocery story in GUM when I was feeling decadent, which wasn't very often at those prices.)))

There are small shops Lafki in the country of Putin , where people can buy lard (salo) onions, garlic, black and white bread, tea and sometimes sausages Tšaynaya and Diplomat of the third grade and cigarettes Belomorkanal. Only for the New year people are allowed to buy the sausage Servelat. And for ladies they have Red Moscow perfumes. And you can’t find any toothpaste, they sell only toothpowder Osoby. And some black market traders sell booze Moonshine behind the store. And since the autumn 2023 there are no eggs in the Lafka-stores.

You definitely don't want to buy anything in that mall. I needed a new pair of swim trunks and finally found some on the 2nd level. They were $180 USD. 😅

In Soviet times all the departments and canteens were affordable for anybody and it was always full of people and there were no unnecessary commercials that match GUM like a saddle matches a cow

@@dicecorporation The divorce rate in Russia differs from the U.S. divorce rate by 0.01% and is the same for all developed countries. The only difference is that CNN made this report specifically about Russia, and the blue-haired zombies started repeating it after them. 😆
