14From Kadesh, Moses sent messengers to tell the king of Edom, “This is what your brother Israel says: You know all the hardship that has befallen us.Then Edom said to him, “You shall not pass through my land, lest I come out against you with the sword.” Numbers 20:14:18 Who was the King of Edom who rejected Yasharel's passage? Let us look at the data not too long after this episode there was war with Yasharel and Midian in the territory of Moab. Five of their kings were killed so essentially there was no leadership in Midian for a time. Is it possible after the Hebrews destroyed Midian located in Moab that their brethren from Midian proper could have sent reinforcements to avenge them? Did Edom end up fighting with Midian not too long after this event? 7 And they warred against the Midianites, as the Lord commanded Moses; and they slew all the males. 8 And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword. 9 And the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods. 10 And they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire. 11 And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of men and of beasts. Numbers 31:7-11 And these are the kings that reigned in the land of Edom, before there reigned any king over the children of Israel. And Husham died, and Hadad the son of Bedad, who smote Midian in the field of Moab, reigned in his stead: and the name of his city was Avith. Genesis 36:31;35
