My friends laugh at me for not being able to sit through modern movies, I won't go to the cinema with them. "You won't watch a two hour Marvel movie, but you'll watch an 8 hour production of War and Peace?!" Yes, friends! The difference... Is quality!

Indeed. Bondarchuk, Kalatozov, Tarkovsky, Bergman, Kurosawa, Kubrick, David Lean and the likes of those created masterpieces. But where are their modern day contemporaries? Where is the creativity, the art of cinematography? Is it truly al commercial rubbish these days?

The film clearly portrays Ushakov as 'Russia's Admiral Horatio Nelson' before Britain's Nelson had achieved his naval victories. Nelson, aware of the Russian navy, and as a young naval officer is seen in a film scene discussing Ushakov's naval tactics which by inference suggests Nelson later bases his navel tactics on the great Ushakov. Speaking as a citizen of the UK we need to research more about the great Russian naval commander Fyodor Ushakov within the received library of knowledge that surely has to put Russian naval commander Fyodor Ushakov as a supreme naval commander of world history. 🙂

@@job341kg Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Uzbek peoples were nomadic people of Central Asia and Central Asia was nothing but empty land. The Russians build cities, infrastructure, schools, and large farms on that land. These nomadic groups became educated and civilized. Their population began growing rapidly. When the Russian Empire fell and the USSR was created, theses Central Asian regions were made into Soviet Republics. After the dissolution of the USSR, these Republics gain independence and became countries. During the 18th century, the population of Kazakh was estimated at 1,000,000 people. By the late 19th century, the Russians performed the first census, and the Kazakh population had increased to approximately 3,300,000 people. Then, in the 1920s-1930s, the Kazakh population decreased by approximately 1,500,000 people due to the famine that affected the grain harvest, causing millions of people to starve to death across the entirety of the USSR. An additional +600,000 died fighting WW2. Despite approximately 2,100,000 Kazakh people dying due to the famine and WW2, by the time the USSR collapsed, the Kazakh population had grown to +11,500,000 people. That's an increase of +10,000,000 Kazakh people in about 55 years. In the 33 years since Kazakhstan gained its independence, the Kazakh population grew to +14,500,000 people. That's only about 3,000,000 people in 3 decades. Let's compare the annual growth rate between post-WW2 Kazakh SSR and sovereign Kazakhstan: • 10,000,000/55 = 181,818 Kazakh per year growth. • 3,000,000/33 = 90,909 Kazakh per year growth. As an sovereign country, the Kazakh population is growing twice as slow as it was during post-WW2 USSR! As for British settlers, they stolen the Native American land for themselves. The number of Native American tribes and population was much higher before the Europeans arrived and settled than it is now. Some of the Native American tribes are completely extinct. Before the arrival of the first Europeans, the total population of Native Americans was estimated to range between 50,000,000-100,000,000 across the entirety of the United States. Yet, as of 2024, the Native American population in the United States is approximately 9,000,000 people. Of that amount, only about 20% live on Native American Reservations. It's also important to point out that Native Americans have a significantly higher poverty rate compared to the general population in the United States, with many living in poverty, especially those residing on reservations where economic opportunities are limited; this is considered one of the highest poverty rates among any racial group in the country. The USSR was a multi-ethnic country and so is the Russian Federation, which has +190 different ethnic groups as citizens, majority of whom are indigenous to that region, unlike the United States, which is primarily a country of non-indigenous immigrants. The Russian Federation also protects the different ethnic groups their language and cultures. There are many micro-ethnic tribes still living in the country. There are over a dozen Autonomous Ethnic Republic, which have limited sovereignty, their own president, constitution, official regional language, etc. This allows the regions to live by their rules and traditions like any sovereign country, but also have all the benefits of being part of the largest country in the world, with the security of a global superpower.

An interesting fact for those who didn't know: admiral Fyodor F. Ushakov is a saint in the Orthodox church. His tomb was opened in times of the USSR, some 150 years after his death, his uncorrupted relics were then found, after which he was canonized as a saint. His relics rest in a church dedicated to him in Moscow. During his lifetime he was well know for his piety, chivalry and honorable treatment of prisoners of war. I was looking for this movie for so long. I want to see how is admiral depicted by Soviet production. Thank You for uploading!

@@Gunni1972Ushakov was a great proponent of sticking to traditional line of battles during fleet actions and letting better training prevail which of course would work against the Turks, not that he actually had any great victorious fleet actions, after Nelson’s example in the Royal Navy if you only managed to capture or sink two ships of the line after a fleet action you would be lucky to keep your job but apparently in Russia that makes you a great naval hero. Nelson on the other hand “Crossed the T” at both the Nile and Trafalgar defeating the conventional lines of battle which Ushakov so loved. And the fact that Trafalgar happened proves the copycat comment wrong because obviously copycats on the Continental side failed to copy the success at the Nile. To even compare Nelson with Ushakov would be a great insult but to accuse Nelson of copying some salty russian who couldn’t keep his job is pure madness.

Да и из русской литературы вспоминается только роман в двух томах В.Пикуля "Фаворит", но он вряд ли переведён на английский.😞

Is it me or is it a bit wierd that the Soviets in 1953 made a film promoting a member of the aristocracy when Russia was ruled by royalty that the Soviets had worked so hard to get rid off

I don't understand why many people believe the lie that the USSR was struggling with its history? The USSR fought against the abominable rulers who led the country to three revolutions and millions of victims of wars and repression. Peter the Great (there is a 1937 film of the same name) and Catherine II were considered aristocrats for the USSR, but patriots who did a lot of useful and necessary things for the state.

He retired in 1807, and lived his last ten years near the Sanaksar Orthodox Christian Monastery in Mordovia (a small region in central Russia populated primarily by the indigenous Mordvin people). He then died in 1817, and nearly 200 years later was canonized as a saint by the Russian Orthodox Church.

If longer you are watching russian historical movies, then more they would try to convince you, that they had invented everything before it was invented, they always defended themselves and also liberated everybody. Watching this movie you could guess, that the French were the one who coppied Catherine's court and glamour, and Brits were inspired by Russians according to navy tactics. Probably Russians were the ones who learned Turks how to make coffee. Also narration is perfect, once the Crimea is always, forever and from ages ultra Russian land (don't wanna interrupt, that official name of this country "Russia" lasted since 30-50 years during movie action - just reminding). And at the end Ushakov is credited for "opening black sea to Russia" not reopening, liberating etc. But whatever that all I have to note, that russian historical movies are very, very accurate in terms of costumes, scenography, music, shots, decorations etc, etc. So it is very pleasurable to see if you mute on dialogs because you know... There are just few american historical productions with John Wayne and Mel Gibson wich phrases can roll your ears. Russians have this problems with dialogs all the time, and thats no actors problem, who in russian cinema industry do they job quite well, there's simply dialog writing wich is weak.

@@robertumbenga3195 Yeah, but except "Burned by sun" and maybe "Admiral" there's so little self critic movies. In this case we can say for example in USA we can name quite a bit movies when Americans made film in wich they are pricks. Brits made their "Crown" series in wich every figure has its really dark side (depends on who and in wich season).
