Brilliant music, brilliant scene. One of the best Soviet films. The melody of the waltz already foreshadows the tragic end

I need to watch more soviet movies, i don't even have the full context of the movie, but this moved me. From the cinematography to edit to the acting, it's really harmonious and beautiful

dude, SOVIET films are its own genre and category. like, i've seen movies from modern Russia, and they are NOTHING like soviet time films. Hollywood is nothing like soviet time films either obviously, but today's Russian movies and TV pretty much try to be western, or are cheaply made. The soviets managed to somehow create incredible cinema in their time, and their writing and acting and filming was top tier, like they were competing with Hollywood but through their isolation from the West, managed to create films not influenced by the west. Soviet movies are just soviet.

Its based on a chekhov story, can't remember which one, maybe The Shooting Party, but I can definitely recommend it, and all of chekhovs stories.

If the sound of spoken word had been muted here I would have guessed this was a scene from an Italian movie. Don’t know why exactly, although the music certainly seems to have something to do with that.

@mingfei1622 she is a young girl from a poor peasant family who is forced to marry a rich and noble man three times her age. At the same time she loves another man, but will never marry him. She is crying on her wedding day because she knows after this her life is done.

@@mingfei1622 Она плачет, потому что её выдают замуж за нелюбимого старого человека, с которым она должна будет прожить всю жизнь. Ведь раньше выдавали замуж родители и выбирали пару родители своим детям кто богаче, она была бедной, и разводиться нельзя было. А она, эта девушка была влюблена в другого молодого человека. В видео есть кадр, где она представляет себя невестой в его руках, а он её кружит среди деревьев , где она когда-то с ним и познакомилась, когда гуляла в лесу. Она понимает, что с того дня её жизнь никогда не будет прежней и счастливой.

@@mingfei1622 its been months since you asked but in fact it's a bit more complicated. This girl was not forced to marry the old man, she chose to in order to escape her miserable life. She had ambitions of her own. She married one man, loved another and slept with a third for money and excitement. Her life and those of the three men were ruined by the events shown in the movie, in which all of them were willing participants, not helpless victims. In my opinion the girl did not deserve what happened to her, but her misery, and that of the men she was involved with, was partially self created.
