Once again, I feel privileged to have such wise teachers as brother Welch and sister Wilson to go through these scriptures with us. I love every lesson.

Your discussion of the political system was helpful to me; i love the point that rights come with obligations. Thaks, too, for pointing out that this is NOT the system of 19th century America.

I am confused on the reference made about Amlici means MLK in Hebrew? The name ends with a C not a K? Sorry showing my ignorance here of Hebrew. Does the C turn into a K?
@kpglenn198 ай бұрын
Just a note: I keep hearing the incorrect pronunciation of Amilici and Amlicite in Scripture Plus media. Amilici and Amlicite should be pronounced with an "s" sound and not a hard c sound per the pronunciation guide in the back of the Book of Mormon.

"between heaven and earth" suggests hanging from a tree, as in the cases of Absolom, Jesus, and Judas suspended between heaven and earth on a tree (II Sam 18:9; Acts 5:30, 10:39, 13:29, and Gal 3:13, based on Deut 21:22-23; Matt 27:5). So with Alma 1:15 (Nehor), and III Ne 4:28 (Zemnarihah). So also with Guy Fawkes and his fellow conspirators, who were sentenced to be hung - between heaven and earth.

I always found it a little disturbing that Alma expressed a public doubt about his son's conversion, warning the people what might happen if Aaron were to become king and go back to his wicked ways. Maybe he was trying to make a point with the people, but it didn't sound like he was 100 percent confident that his son had genuinely repented.

I worry about anyone who becomes a king. Power often has a tendency to corrupt.
@DonaldWMeyers-dwm8 ай бұрын
@@gwengold8154 Mosiah was making the argument against a king, but he also kind of throws Aaron under the bus by suggesting that he isn't as stalwart in his repentance and conversion. He could have just left it at Aaron doesn't want the kingdom and we can't force the crown on anybody.

Regarding marking Ultimately, we mark ourselves with our words and actions. Our language marks us as believers or non believers. Our actions mark us. I love that President Nelson has pleaded with us to be peacemakers. As disciples of Jesus Christ we should be marked by being peacemakers, not marked by contention. 🤍
