My Mosin has an issue where the bolt will not easily unlock after firing requiring it to be hammered open. Mark over on Anvil though it was a dimple in the chamber from someone trying to polish out a rust spot, but I recently got a bore scope and can see it looks like when they chambered the barrel, they bored out the bulk a little too deep as I can see some of the drill marks right near the back of the chamber just under where the rim seats, so when they chambered it to get the head space correct, it failed to clean it all up and that is what the cartridge is catching on and locking it in place. The gun only cost me $50 so spending $350 on a barrel and another $150+ to get it installed on the ugliest gun I own isn't happening. I wonder, can you sleeve out and re-chamber a barrel?

Hello Thank you for worth video and information. This is Fahad from Saudi Arabia and i need your advice, experience and opinion. I have good shape Canadian Lee Enfield but the barrel is bad and the bullet is losing inside it. What i am thinking about is that, get Mosin Nagant barrel and install it in it instead of the old barrel because the ammunition of cheaper than 303mm and available I got this idea because some people in Iraq are using this fabrication and it works. My big concern is that, the thread of both barrels (Lee Enfield and Mosin nagant) is similar? Or same or totally different. Please advise me guys since you have access better than me on these rifles Thanks Fahad

I have a couple mosin that need barrels replaced. Where can I find a receiver wrench?

There is a guy who males them on ebay. I made my own out of plate steel. a wrench for a FAL will also work if you can find one of those

I don’t support sportyrizing old guns but if the barrel or something else is wrong with it I see no real problems I’ve seen a lot of people take nice guns and make them into garbage guns. do you have plans for this rifle yet? I’d like to see videos on the build if so
@GunsWithGage5 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with you. Unfortunately, this gun was not safely repairable in my opinion. Someone brought be a sad 1903 Springfield that their father cut up years ago. Luckily is was only wood work, so it can be restored even though it wont be original. I ordered a Chinese M53 barrel for this build. I'm going to go ahead and do a 20.5 suppressor host build I think. I'll keep the video series going! next up will be a headspace video most likely

I don't understand why people use those janky rails that replace the rear flip up sight. If you take a propane torch and heat up the rear sight base, you can slide it off by tapping it with a hammer when hot. There is already a small dovetail rail machined into the barrel underneath the sight mount.

Did you end up filling in those old ati scope mount holes on the receiver or did you leave them? I have one with 2 holes and im wondering if i should fill them in or find the ati scope mount that was on mine before i owned it at one time. And thank you for sharing your video on this i no the other ones on youtube suck! They talk more about drinking more shine more than anything. Yours gave some really helpful tips. So thank you!

Where did you get that reciever wrench?

I've two rear sight mount picatinny rails. A caliber change would be awesome as the truly cheap surplus ammo long gone, etc.

First view, first 👍, first comment! I’m working on making sort of an Obrez pistol out of mine. I’m thinking about cutting the barrel to 16.5” and fashioning a pistol grip for it. I know it’s a little odd but I’ve had it forever and I haven’t shot it in years so I figure it will make it exciting again. any thoughts?

Do it! I actually planned on doing a 1inch barrel obrez with this receiver when I got it. I ended up ordering a Chinese m53 barrel for it last night. Check out the "obrez" pistol from the video game battlefield 1. That's what I'd like to do

GageFixesEverything I know. That would be awesome! The reason I want to start with a 16.5” barrel is that it would require no paperwork to do it and I could play around with it that way till I got bored then later possibly cut it shorter. I even want to make a holster belt in the cowboy gunslinger style with loops for extra cartridges that go all the way around my waist. Why the heck would I want something like this? America!😆😆😆 no seriously it would be like for costume parties and just because it’s so over the top. It’s a gun guy thing I suppose🤔. Anyway, doesn’t a barrel shorter than 16” constitute a shortbarreled rifle? Would I need a stamp if I go that short?

@Jeremy .P gotta order a custom barrel in 303 caliber, 54r clambering, with a 91/30 contour and receiver threading.

Should have welded a big nut to the barrel. Also use American break over bar and socket.

If your going to scrap the barrel I would just use a 24” pipe wrench with cheater pipe instead of going through the trouble of cutting flats and all that

Original Russian PEM scope mounts had 3 holes drilled at the factory! Converting to another caliber was done in the past by the Bannerman company, to 30.06! However, because the 762x54R is a rimmed cartridge, the bolt face requires extensive modification, and is just not worth the effort! 7.62x54R ammo is actually plentiful, and dirty, but people are generally too damn cheap to willingly pay a few bucks more to get it. It's a budget, high powered rifle, not a damn plinking toy--rebuild it as a shooter, and it will consistently give 5 inch groups at 300 yds forever--I own 6 of them, 2 sportified, which with 17 inch barrels still do 6 to 7 inch groups at 300 yds. using iron sights and a original side mount Russian PU scope--a good strong fun gun, that served in war, and now as a civilian hunter or protector.

If you glass and pillar bed the rifle, then line the exterior of the barrel with cork material, and replace the barrel with a modern machined barrel, you can very easily get sub moa groups with Yugoslavian surplus or 180gr or heavier boat tailed rounds. All this can be done for $600 or less if you know how to do it yourself. Honestly with how plentiful 54r is, even today, I see no reason why we shouldn't put the work into these old girls. With the russian ammo bad, I think it's likely a few American Manufacturers will start making the stuff once the demand gets higher.
