When I built my Hungarian AK63-D I just added .006 to the back of a steel case and set the head space that way and when I got real set of 7.62x39 head-space gauges the GO gauge was just a little tight, but then I read where the AK is expected to have a little resistance on the GO gauge and they actually give a torque spec. The gun works perfectly!

Thanks for posting this video. I got a good deal on a stock for a Swedish Mauser, and am building a rifle around it. I paired a threaded Swedish 6.5x55 barrel w/ front and rear sights installed to a M1893 receiver and adjusted the head space using barrel shims and a set of Forstner GO, NO GO and FIELD gauges. With the headspace properly set so the bolt closes effortlessly on the GO gauge and doesn't close on the NO GO or FIELD gauges, the sights are about 180-degrees from where they need to be. Am I correct that at this point in the build, I need to unsolder the front and rear sights and reposition them on the barrel? Thanks.

Very good presentation. In the past I've had to fireform brass for excessive headspace guns and headspace off of the shoulder instead of the rim and neck size only. A quick cure for excessive headspace but not allowing the use of factory cartridges except for fireforming the first shot. Not steel though

I put a 91/30 barrel on a M44 receiver. M44 barrel was bad when I bought it at a gun show, Still can't seem to get the go gauge in properly. Trying your method, will let you know if it works.

I have a 91/30 with a sawed off barrel. It appears that the barrel needs a slight turn to level the sight. I purchased a pic rail which fits into the back sight lug. I'm thinking I need to check the head space to be sure that if I turn it ever so slightly it will still maintain a "go" on the head space. Your comments please?

Or buy a headspace gauge like I did for a turkish 8mm mauser I built and read the instructions that it has. Paraphrased it says if you have to apply pressure to close the bolt there isn't enough space "no go " if bolt closes smoothly and locks it is "go" which it closes smoothly..I had a barrel and receiver and found a bolt separately along with all the other parts.

Can you use masking tape as a means of making a No-Go Guage. A gun Smith told me he has tested that method next to a actual No-Go Guage and got the sa.e results.

What do you mean when you say rechamber the barrel?
@gabemando78233 жыл бұрын
Take it to a gunsmith to “re”chamber it to 7.62x54R. I bought a super tight converted .30-06 Mauser that was too tight and paid a gunsmith $80 to rechamber it.

Do you have any original mosin barrels? I’d buy one in good condition

gET A GOOD BARREL ON EBAY, I bought two of them and both were Westinghouse, 31/2 inches longer than standard Mosin and fit the receiver I bought perfectly. Head spacing was just fine . Both were stamped SA couldn't beieve my good luck.

Holy shit.... 2 New England Westinghouse barrels??? God, that makes me wonder where the recievers went because all the manufacturer and date stamps are on the chamber.
