Mosko Moto or Lone Rider who makes the best soft bags for adventure riding? / GS1250 / Moto Camping

I do a complete side by side comparison of these two soft bag companies.

Bought the lone rider set, and had to return them. Advertised as direct clip on for the gsa, end up removing all of the screws on each side to adjust 2 pieces of plastics. 😅😅 not too happy about that. Got the mosko set, installed without any trouble. And I think the mosko moto set is better quality.

I also feel the quality of the Mosko bags are better, but I like the inner bag of the lone rider bags, the inner bag of the Mosko bags is not good....Dave

Been running the complete Mosko set up for about a year on my Tiger 1200 no worries yet. They are a little more off road focused and lack a little convenience at times but damn they are tough! I just take the bags off and take em inside if I hotel it. When on day trips I run a cap screw through the locking release latch with a nylon lock nut. So no one can just pull them off. Keeps an honest man honest. Interested to see the total comparison. Also, customer service at Mosko is awesome. Great bunch of folks. Great channel found it when I was looking for a new tent last month!

I second that the Mosko folks are a great. They had a little get together at their headquarters in White Salmon, WA this summer called the Dusty Lizard and I found them all to be very genuine and kind. All of them ride and live what they sell.

Man, I remember running away from home and bringing some candy, binoculars, a toothbrush with no toothpaste a blanket and a pair of underwear lol. All stuffed into school book bag. I don’t think kids runaway anymore. It was like a Right of passage when I was a kid. I mean, I was in the woods across the street for 48 hrs and my mom tells me she knew where I was the entire time (perhaps there’s where the extra food that was left for me in the morning came from lol) but I was finally starting to feel like I was growing up. That little comment brought back an amazing memory I hadn’t thought of in several decades.

Weight? Leave the waterproof bags in the panniers. Get a couple of the canvas shopping bags and put the things you take into a motel in those bags. When camping, they can be used as hand towels, placemats for meals, and, of course, shopping bags. When camping on hard or rocky ground, they can be filled with rocks or whatever and used to stretch out vestibules on a tent. Optionally, or in conjunction with, you could use the heavy plastic shopping bags you sometimes get when shopping. They are lighter and pack smaller.

Thank you, I ordered a 23 890 advr so really doing my homework as all I know are dirt bikes. Five months watching every video I can. I think I’m gonna start out with the reckless 80 system as I want gear as close to bike and low profile as possible as I’m gonna punish this new bike on technical single track. I’m very impressed how Mosko not only manufacturs but they all ride as well. If more room is needed on more of a pavement/fire road ride I’ll have to figure out if I need bigger panniers. I really do hate when stuff sticks out on both sides. Cross that bridge when I come to it. Thanks again

Great video review comparison. I have the Mosko's with 2 aux pox's on each bag totaling 40 liters each bag. My buddy has the Lone Rider. Both are great bags. I just think the Mosko's are more durable and a bit better engineered with the beavertails, hydration capability etc.. The inner bag doesn't bother me one bit, I only remove it for cleaning. I always take the entire bags into the hotel, aux pox's attached, everything carries and goes in one shot. It's so much easier than pulling the inner bags, then the aux pox's waterproof bags separate (for me it makes it more complicated). Plus I don't have to worry about overnight theft of the bags from the bike or reattaching cable locks. I guess If you purpose the inner bag for other reasons the LRs may be a better option, but for me, the Mosko's meet all my needs.

I cannot disagree with anything you said. I bought my second set of these bags and I used them during the 2023 IBR. Just grabbing them you can feel the build quality, the aux pockets are bolted on and that feels secure, BUT. I tried to use them as designed and took the entire bag into my hotel, and that was it. Sold them after my 11 day trip, I just want a removable dry bag with a handle. Since Ive sold off all soft bags Ive been using my hard bags, but with the release of the new Lone Rider top box I may be going back to them....Dave

I have a set of each. I had the LoneRider bags on my BMW GS Adventure but then went on an extended trip and the Lonerider bags were just to big on the Vstrom 650 I bought to ride from Ushuaia to northern Canada so I bought the Mosko's. In the end I like those better. At the hotel I just lift the whole bag of the bike and take it inside. The bags can really take a beating and even when I was rear ended and the bag got damaged, Mosko has this service of a free repair or a new bag at half price (just the bag). Also if you leave the bags on the bike, the little pouches stay on there or you also have to take those of too every time. My Lonerider bags were replaced once (under warranty) in the beginning as the corners, you were also concerned about, came apart and started leaking. The second set doesn't leak yet (after 4 years of use). In the end, next time I would again choose the MoskoMoto's as they're less wide and I like the sturdiness and versatility. I bought the locks but hardly ever use them (even so I also never lock the LoneRider bags as I take the inner bags inside and there's nothing in there when the bike is left alone) Thanks for your comparison and nice video.

Thanks for your report...I just used the MOSKO bags on my 11 day IBR ride and sold them upon return, Im sticking with hard bags. I agree that the quality of them is great, and I love the pockets, but going into a hotel was terrible. I once took the entire pannier, that just seemed awkward, the next trip I tried using just the inner liner bag, with no handle, it just didn't work for me. I had the Lone Rider bags and had an issue with them fading, and one started leaking, the other concern was the strength of their pockets, the straps are just too small. For me, rally riding and touring its hard bags for the win...Dave

I’ve got the Mosko son my Africa Twin. They are great, very very tough, a bit slimmer, the beaver tail is actually really useful. The quick release system is easily lockable or easily taken into a motel or hotel. Don’t bother taking the inner bag out, just take the whole thing.

So that is my plan, I have a Rally in April, it will be my first real test, I plan to have one bag with bike stuff, that will stay on the bike, the other will come off and go into the motel with me. I have to be able to get everything in one trip, my goal....Dave

Their Stinger 22L Tailbag has a handle AND backpack shoulder straps! The Backcountry dry bag inside should too!!! @moskomoto

It’s a tough choice between the two. I wanted to support Mosko because they’re local to where I live, but ultimately went with Lone Rider for the extra capacity (which means I end up taking more stuff then I need!). One thing to keep in mind is that the Mosko bag itself is 30 liters, and then you add one pocket to get 35 liters. Whereas, the Lone Rider bag is 38 without any pockets. I’m looking forward to seeing your further comparisons.

Honestly that is why I went with Lone rider the first go around, volume, so where do I find that info on the bag only being 30L? Ive heard that before and hate to put out bad info.....Dave

Been using the BMW branded Atacama kit for the past 5 years, which I'm told is actually Mosko, it's bombproof, light, super easy on & off, actually waterproof, my only complaint is that they're slightly too small for my use (camera gear in Hazard 4 padded semi-rigid sling bag). Apart from that, top notch gear.

I liked the Mosko Bags, great quality, but using them for sport touring and going into Hotels they didn't work. Seemed like I was taking so much extra into the hotel....Dave

Great comparison! I have the Moskos, but was really eyeing the LRs. A couple of observations: - the Moskos are so easy to take off, I'm talking 5secs, that you'll never bother taking the inner bags out - the 4L Mosko aux pox are nice for stuff you want to quickly jam in there - at 30L they are smaller than LR or aluminum cans; my thinking is I need to carry less shit for off road - my Fiskars hatchet fits great in the loop under the beaver tail - the Survivewear waterproof first aid kit fits nicely on the molle straps in place of the aux pox

Dave, I use both as well. I like both. You’re right that the bag system on the Moskomoto is not user friendly. I ended up taking the whole bag into the hotel rather than removing the inner. I never thought about using a different inner bag, I have a set of BMW inner bags for the hard cases, I’m gonna try that. The Lonerider, are easier to pack, because of the more rigid design, and yes the molle on top is backward in my opinion! I wonder, how much weight the 5litre Lonerider bags can handle, and will it cause the main Lonerider bag to distort, with too much weight in the 5 litre bags?

I remember reading on the Lone Rider website that the that 5 L bags were not intended to hold the weight of a tool kit, heck that was packing plan, so id say the weight is less than an average tool kit? Those molle straps are just small...Thanks for watching...Dave

There are lots of good choices. My preferred setup is not either of these. I like the Green Chile soft rack, bag snakes and dry bags in the size I need for the given trip. This setup is way cheaper, almost infinitely adjustable in size, and weighs almost nothing.

Kriega OS 38/32 with back plates do the trick for me, best quality bags in the market for me. I had LR in the past and they do not age well.

100% agree on the LR, they looked aged and dingy, could keep them clean. After a lengthy road only trip with the MM bags, I am going back to my hard bags. Most of my riding is road stuff and the inner bag on the MM doesn't work for me, good quality but the inner bag stinks...Dave

I have the Altrider Hemisphere bags because they seemed to have some great features. Turns out it is like they took the worst of both those bags and combined them. Plus the quality was horrible, stitching coming apart, etc. I am leaning towards the Mosko ones but just not sure as I would like more storage room.

Both the Lone Rider and Mosko Moto bags are top quality, if there is a concern for capacity, go with Lone Rider...Dave

The Lone Rider is way more secure to leave on your bike. I'm talking about the new locking quick release of the Lone Rider. The locking mechanism on the Lone Rider in terms of how it secures to the bike is massively superior to the Mosko Moto bags. I wouldn't leave the Mosko Moto bags on my bike, even with the cable lock, which can easily be cut within seconds. I like the Mosko Moto bags otherwise.

I could easily say you are correct and leave it at that, but I will add, the LR Bags have a better inner bag system as well. However on long term usage they became very dull and looked dirty, and the lock on top makes it harder to secure a bag on top....Still the better bags in all...Dave

Thanks for the video. I’m deciding between these two bags myself. Maybe Giant Loop as well. One thing I’ve noticed - the LR bags appear to be significantly heavier than the MM. Did you notice any weight difference? The MM seem a little easier to set up initially. I don’t have a new GS, so I’d have to adjust the LR quick release plate to use it. Thanks again.

Last year while comparing hard bags to soft I honestly felt there wasn't much of a difference in weight and certainly didn't feel anything once on the bike. A friend has Giant Loop stuff, similar in design to the MOSKO bags. Thanks for watching..Dave

In my honest opinion, the 48L bag is too big for the top of any pannier, but I have used the 30L on top of the Lone Rider panniers many times. The only thing is they use that G hook on the front so securing them on the Lone rider bags is easy enough, but onto of the OEM panniers requires you to make a G hook strap, and connect the opposite end too the Pannier. On the normal Lone Rider strap has a buckle, does that make sense? Dave

I have the LoneRider and don't use the drybag because it is a pain to put in the bag once it's packed. My brother has the Mosko system, and I found it was to fiddly with all the straps, but having said that, they are both great systems depending on your preferences. BTW, have you tried Amour All or anything like that to bring back the color?

So with you saying you need space, I immediately think you need the Lone Rider bags, you can opt them with 2 38L bags and you have space, that was the option I chose. As far as mounting them, I had the quick release option and it clips, so to speak, onto the OEM pannier rack. Quick and simple. If you chose the MOSKO MOTO route, they have an adapter, my descriptive word that bolts to the OEM pannier rack and that allows the pannier to mount to them, again easy process. Dave

I'll leave you with this. Can you live with the volume size of Mosko Moto? The build quality of these bags, feels better, but ive had no failures of the Lone rider. The bolt on pockets make me feel way better than the small molle webbing straps of the Lone Rider, again no failures tho. Ive only had the Mosko Moto a few months and don't have enough time to say what is a real issue, but asking today, id buy the Mosko bags. Dave
