If u used to go to Mosney for your summer holidays heres a little walkthrough of mosney 3/7/2016 . Sad to see it falling into disrepair .
The walkthrough starts a the chalets down to the mosney lounge and bobs amusements to the lake .My apologies for recording in vertical mode as i only got the camera and didn't realise . if i go back i will re record it in landscape mode.
Hope u enjoy anyways.

I went here year in year out during the 60's and 70's. It was heaven on earth in those days! The best days of my life! So sad to see it fall into disrepair. It was a national treasure.

Very sad to see. Used to go there for Community Games in the 90's. Was a great place. Them old chalets weren't much better back then! As the footage was going through each area I could see it as it used to be. Very nostalgic. Eerie too. Thanks for putting this up. Brought back some great memories..

Kind of emotional watching that. Growing up on a farm your school tours were your holiday's in the 80's. This was one of my favorites...it was such a treat. Sad to see how it has fallen into disrepair.

there's an old chair sat outside an abandoned chalet... where once the sun set....and some old soul sat to watch their children play...happily..in mowed grass..laughing and giggling ..simple fun.. another long day of excitement coming to an end... a nice hot bubble bath..and off to bed. ..before waking early...off to breakfast....balancing on the painted white curbside. .that led like a maze amongst flowers and bushes..to the food halls.. where you would be seated next to new friends...smiles..happy chatter...another whole day of fun to be found...simple...happy. ..golden days...'his true intent...was for all our delight ' Billy Butlins. ..the original dream maker ❤

sad seen it this way...i worked in all the bars in 88 and 89 seasons.. and went on holidays there with the mother and family for many years before that..I was last there in 2001, i got the train out to laytown from dublin took a stroll down the beach and went in through the nature trail entrance...fortunately the gate was opened ,..I wasnt in there long when a security guard drove up and asked me why was I there..It turns out that we knew each other from the 88 ..89 season ..he gave me a tour of the place..It was now a refugee center. I got to meet a few old faces..pj from limerick was still driving the tractor. I must have given two hours chatting with everyone....I had a tear in my eye strolling back down the beach to laytown..Fond distant memories of special days with my mum and family..and the many friends i made in 88 and 89

Talk about a trip down memory lane...other than the decay and overgrowth, not much seems to have changed. We holidayed there almost every year from before I was old enough to remember, until about 1990 or so, and then one time more after that maybe a couple of years later. Right where that white fence is, cutting off the road alongside what was formerly Dan Lowry's and the pool area, was my spot, shuttling between the amusement arcade and then back to the bar to get more 10p coins. The old ballroom was in that building too, along with the American Grill (?) with its hot apple pies and doughnuts, and the "American Bar". The "Mosney Lounge" used to be the Theatre Lounge and was the only pub on the camp the kids weren't allowed in after a certain time of night, and looks like it still has much the same decor it always did. I might very well have stayed the last time in one of the chalets you were walking around. Sad to see it decaying like that, but I can't imagine any way it could be run as a holiday spot again without being completely redone anyway. Different times. Just wish you'd held the phone right way around for video is all. ;-)

For those who keep saying to reopen it, attendances were dropping, and let's be honest it's so delapatated and run down now, only thing would be to level it. And the money it'd cost to even get it back up to a half decent condition would be sky high. The days of a good decent holiday camp like this in ireland are long gone, sun holidays are getting so cheap. And I remember many a summer going there also, my last memory of being in mosney was for homelands, now that was one to remember 😂

It would probably cost more to get rid of all the asbestos materials than it would cost to refurbish the centre now. Still was a great place to go for a week away. Was there in the late 70s first holiday away on our own. Nowadays it's all Spain for all the 18 Yr olds. Probably cost the same price as mosney back in the day. In the 60's and early 70's it was a great place for families to holiday! The troubles in the North and the introduction of self catering saw the arrival of a yob culture which turned off families and so resulted in the decline of the camp and its eventual closure. Last visited it as a day tripper in 1994 and it was a sad sight to behold.

Not saying they should. Nostalgia and reality are poor bedfellows. I was reared in Bultins/Mosney. From being there in the 70's when my dad was Stage Manager of the Gaiety and did puppet shows in the Playhouse, my Uncle Ents Manager, Sister & cousins redcoats, etc... to the 90's when I maintained the machines in the amusement park. I have a huge emotional investment there but rationally don't see it ever reopening in it's old form

What an odd atmosphere an abandoned holiday camp with seagull sounds has! Only went to Mosney the once in the early 90s. My only memories are jumping into the deep end of the pool because my friend could swim and i just assumed I could do. Queue nearly drowning but just about grabbing the ladder and hauling myself up to see a very disinterested "life guard" sitting in a chair at top. Also was it called "Quasar" - basically paintballing with lightguns? Oh and of course, the underwater pool window!

Yes it was secure, it still has residents and security. We were not allowed inside. The security guy said it was an accommodation center now and they get lots of people coming to ask if they can walk around but they don't allow it. Its not abandoned. I would love to know how this person got inside!

Mosney could've still been a Butlins Resort if Butlins still owned it. I'm pretty sure that the holidaymakers and day visitors would've been relieved to have a Skyline Pavilion to shelter from the rainy weather.....

Lots of arseholes will say it wouldn't have been viable into the 21st century. But that s horseshit. Look at how many Butlins still operate in Britain. Their weather is the same as ours more or less. The problem here was some well connected arsehole wanted to sell to the government for a huge profit instead of looking for a buyer to keep it going. Said arsehole was facilitated by FF cronies who cared more about making him rich than keeping a place of real enjoyment and community alive. If anything think of how such a place would have been so attractive today when flights are chaotic and the hospitality sector at large is full of gougers. It could have been a real fun place in the summer, for less hassle than going abroad, and cheap housing in winter.

If they ever want to make a movie about an apocolypse, this would be the perfect place.
