Great trip Cha. We spent 15 years going to Mims in the winter and fished Orange Island only once and caught a hugh red on shrimp. I remember we would run from Eldora across to Riverbreeze and if you slowed down you would bottom out. Thats why my wife never would join me. We also would launch at Bio Lab and go straight across to Cucumber Island and catch reds and trout. I have an 18 ft Polar tunnel hull skiff. We sold our house in Mims seven years ago but I am feeling the need to return now that I am fully retired and still have my Polar here in NC..............TFS

Hey George, that is awesome, and hope you can make it back down here again soon! Eldora to Riverbreeze is my go to area in the lagoon, same with Bio Lab, so we are cut from the same cloth there. Definitely some skinny waters, gotta watch out for those oysters beds this far north too! Thanks for watching and for the support!

After watching your video, I decided to go here. I went with a couple of friends and stayed at site number 3. We got completely destroyed by Noseeums. I never going back that was horrible lol.
@campingwithchopsticks11 ай бұрын
@penguin36, for what it is worth, I did mention the noseeums a few times 😄. I agree they can be brutal. I try to avoid the summer months camping here because of them. Hopefully it does not derail you from getting back out there or somewhere else. Thanks for watching and best of luck next time. Appreciate you watching!

Can you harvest those oysters? Are they any good to eat?
@campingwithchopsticks Жыл бұрын
Hey LOCO, yes absolutely, they are briny and delicious! It is best to avoid them during the summer (hotter) months, as we do get some bad algae blooms during those times. I would only eat them when the water is cold and clear.

Where did you launch from? Where is Orange Island? Im in Volusia county and looking for a good spot like this.
@campingwithchopsticks2 жыл бұрын
Hey David, this is at the Canaveral National Seashore in NSB, I launched out by the Eldora House. They have 13 primitive campsites that you can reserve. I have camped Islands 1-5, and all are great for different reasons. Fishing is always great in the lagoon, regardless of where you stay. Thanks for watching!

Just curious have they made the mosquito lagoon no prop south of the barge canal I know in 14 they were talking about doing that for spawning grounds.

Do you have to reserve a spot on one of those island or can u just go and it’s first come first sever?
@campingwithchopsticks Жыл бұрын
Hey TMF, you do have to reserve a spot. There are 13-14 campsites to select from. You do make a reservation here at www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/251854 Thanks for watching and hope you can get out there soon!

how did you possibly survive the bugs? was this in deep winter?
@campingwithchopsticks2 жыл бұрын
Hey Subzero, this was in late March this year, but have done this trip during the dogs days of summer when the bugs are outrageously out of control. I do try to make this trips during Oct-April as it makes for a much better experience. But bug spray, face mask and a little grit always gets me by! Thanks for watching!

Does one need a permit to stay overnight and do this?
@campingwithchopsticks11 ай бұрын
Hey @Z33Garage, yes you do a need a permit to camp out on the lagoon. I have attached a link below where you can get one. It is not the cheapest but worth it for sure. Thanks for watching and hope you get out there! www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/251854

Illegal Redfish bro...that's not cool!
@campingwithchopsticks10 ай бұрын
It was a legal red. I would never harvest a fish that wasn't. It was before they closed the season in the lagoon and was 20 inches. I appreciate you watching!
