Emergency Thermal Blanket 5 pack + fire steel - amzn.to/2pGQfd9
Here is a review of the Mossberg 500. This rifle was introduced in 1961. This gun was built to withstand the bad conditions that you encounter when hunting. The 500 comes in many varients that include self defense, hunting, and military models. My particular Mossberg came as a combo set that included a rifled barrel with integral scope mount and a smooth barrel with normal sights. The barrels are easily interchanged just with the turn of a knob. This is a very high quality hunting shotgun that cost me about $270. It is the ultimate in versatility in that I can hunt small game, large game, waterfowl and turkey. I can shoot normal slugs out of the smooth barrel or Sabot slugs from the rifled barrel. Mossberg also claims that the 500 is the only shotgun to have passed the military's torture test in which they fire 3000 rounds of full power buckshot through it. Its direct competitors include the Remington 870. Both are great budget shotguns with many available upgrades.

When I bought it they had the wood, black synthetic and camo stocks lined up together. There is nothing like wood for that classic look. It's heavy as hell to carry around, but I always end up buying wood when I have the choice. It's one of the things I love about the AK is the wood stock! Thanks for watching.

I bought the Mossberg 500 combo 2 years ago at Dicks for $299. The scope that comes with it sucks so I replaced it with a Nikon 2-7. I killed two bucks with it this year and was pretty happy with the gun for the price. I just sold it to a friend and I’m buying a Benelli SBE II ($1700) I have always wanted the Benelli but the Mossberg 500 is a great deer gun for the price.

The Mossberg 590A was the one that passed the torture test and is used for the military. Don't read wiki for info myself just the info I know from reading magazines and with gun shop folk. I could be wrong .. but I think I'm spot on on this one.

Nope the mossy is rock solid. I still use that 2.5x scope it came with. I've found that I've got to buy the high end Sabot slugs for better accuracy. The $8 ones do not shoot as good as the $20 ones. Not even close.

My barrel has an integral mount permanently attached to it. I believe all of the modern 500's are drilled and tapped already. you should see 4 small set screws in the top of your receiver. you can buy a weaver base that goes into those holes once you take the screws out.

Your statement about vent ribs not affecting recoil is completely true. There are vents on that rifled barrel to help reduce muzzle rise though, NOT vent ribs for sighting a smoothbore barrel. Side note, I bought the combo version of this shotgun, and the smoothbore bbl has a vent rib as well as vents for muzzle rise.

I purchased this same gun in 20 gauge a week before Christmas 2018 at Dick's for $245.00 + NY tax. Two cheek pads, two 24" barrels (one rifled with cantilever and scope included). Came with three chokes. Dick's is still selling them for $245.00 but you have to have the salesman scan the SKU to see the price. Dick's doesn't always advertise heir sales accurately on the internet.

I used the Hornady SST slugs a couple of days ago and had one inch groups at 100 yds with a 9x scope. I would highly suggest buying some. They have a tip on them like the Leverevolution ammo has. I noticed the ported barrel cut down on the jump a lot.

It's a good point you make. But from the info I've read the internals of the 590 and 500 are the same. The 590 has upgraded furniture to meet mil-spec standards. and the trigger guard has to be metal, etc... but does use the same receiver, bolt, bcg, and extractors and elevators as the 500. Could be wrong on that, but I believe the source of that info was from Mossberg.

I think your issue with long range accuracy could be the ammo selection. I har this EXACT same shotgun, and mine likes the federal Barnes blue tipped copper sabot. They are pricey, but all sabots are pricey. But I can get very tight rifle type groups with mine. Play around with different brands and see what works.

It's been a couple seasons now and it is still dead on. Maybe a few minor adjustments at the end of a range trip but thats about it. 99% of the time its the rings and not the scope. Try buying a scope mounting kit and lapping the scope rings. It creates alot more friction between the rings and the scope and holds them better, and they come with an alignment tool to make sure the rings are sitting right. Lots of videos out there on how to do it.

Dicks will run some pretty impressive holiday sales. i doubt they will go back down to $279, but usually they have pretty good black friday sales on guns! not a big seller for x-mas so they do some pretty big discounts because it's the end of the hunting season in NY. I'd hold off the month, and if you can't get it cheaper after Thanksgiving it probably wont go back down there.

@sheldon70611 Your looking at about $100 for a barrel or about $300+ for a deer rifle. NY state has a rifle zone and shotgun zone so I have both so I can hunt both regions, but the 500 with the rifled barrel gets near the ballistics of a .30-.30 and can hit ranges of 150 yards plus. Anything further than that and you definitely want a rifle. I prefer the rifle zone. I can reach out a few hundred yards with my Savage .30-06. and that was a $300 rifle.

Nuth34D if you are still looking into the buckshot and rifled barrel the rifleing will spin the wad making the pellets have a much more diverse pattern and you can shoot it out of a rifled barrel because I have and I love my 500c 20ga I paid 235 and it was a combo smooth and rifled barrel I made 3 vids on mine so far and I love it the 500 is a badass shotgun
@Bushcraft412
@Bushcraft412 12 жыл бұрын
@RangersAirsoft Looks like they are pretty similar except for larger chamber on the 535. If your using it for duck and turkey hunting the 535 may be a better option. But if it was deer only I would stick with the 500. The 3" sabots have great knockdown power at 150-200 yards. The 3 1/2 doesn't bring it up to much. 12 gauge slugs are just too big to keep their power at longer distances.

@phillip42184 ah... I NY you can't hunt waterfowl with a gun that holds more than 3 rounds in the tube. (dumb rule I know!) so they put a wooden plug with a plastic washer in the tube for the gun to be legal to hunt with in NY. Not sure if those rules are the same in other states, but it's what we have to deal with here, and its something they actively enforce.

And this is to a comment I read below all you have to do to take the tube off the 500 is take the barrel off and unscrew the tube and you can clean it their is of corse the 3 parts which is the tube the spring and a tube end at the reciver end of the spring assuming you have taken out the plug already or their will be four parts and if you ever want the plug out just take the barrel off and the plug will fall out of the screw hole in the tube when it is turned upside down

I was using a Winchester 2 3/4 long 7 1/2 shot that had steel heads on them and the guy at the store said the brass tends to work better than steel. has anyone every here of this happening. they told me it was something to do with how the steel heats the brass head do not expand to much but steel does from what they told me at the store, and they did show me a brass head shell and compared it to my steel head shell, and the steel head was slightly bigger. if anyone knows or have heard of this please let me know, or how to avoid it happening again

CLeHitez106 The second bead just really helps you create a consistent line of sight down your barrel for better accuracy. Helps you position your head in a way that creates the same line of sight. I don't think there is much to do about the forend. I'd just rest assured that this shotgun has been used by the military for years and there isn't a problem with them.

blunted one actually it's 28". Mossberg 500 Pump-Action Field Shotgun No other shotgun even comes close to the Mossberg 500's combination of modern design, custom features and affordability. All of this comes in an array of stocks, barrels, finishes and combo options to make it the perfect, versatile choice for first-time hunters and seasoned veterans alike. 12 or 20 gauge 28" vent rib, ported barrel on 12GA, 26" vent rib barrel on 20GA 5-round capacity 3" chamber AccuChoke Set I got that from the site itself
