What a powerhouse voice. What souldering passion. You can see how artists like Mrs Jackson paved the way for vocalists like Aretha Franklin and Whitney Houston. You can also hear Bessie smiths influence on mahalia style of singing.

A truly awesome woman of God. Totally engrossed with the love of God and the joy of singing as if there is no one there but her & the Lord. This rendition is so eloquently dashed with soulful quietness & souring power that only Mahalia could deliver. Delicious!!

Lip-synching has been going on for a long time - since at least when this clip was made. It's nothing high-tech. It's merely a recording playing in the background, and the singer moving their lips with no words coming out.
