Best MTB Shoes 2023. Shimano RX8

Finding the perfect shoe can be one of the hardest tasks when it comes to cycling. What works for me may kill your feet and vice versa. What are you all wearing currently and what is your favorite brand of shoe? I am always up for trying something new.

Just bought a pair of these today. Mainly for road riding but possibly for gravel as well. Upgraded from a pair of Giro Cylinder II XC shoes. I haven't done any long rides yet but they do feel very comfortable. They look too nice for getting dirty though so I'll be keeping the Giro's for mountain biking.

I have come to rely on those shoes for road cycling. I do appreciate the fact that I can 'walk' on them without damaging the cleat. Super stiff for those hard efforts and equal to a dedicated road shoe (with the right pedals). Excellent shoe!

I had the same issue with a pair of Fizik shoes road shoes. Toe box collapsed, rubbed bad and they replaced them with a newer pair of the R5 with a reinforced toe and they have been amazing since. Just ordered a pair of these rx8 shoes to replace a pair of Sidi Dominators ( the heel lugs were so narrow it was like walking on high heels and I would roll my ankle) fingers crossed they fit!

Any comment on how the fit compares to the previous version? Other reviews say RX801 has wider toe-box than outgoing RX8. Did you notice? Also, is the BOA just 1-way tighten then you have to release to loosen or it it 2-way allowing you to loosen one or two clicks to really dial in the tension? Thanks for the review vid!

Hey man! I actually have these same shoes! I think they're great.. except for this exact BOA Li2 system, the grip on the BOA keept peeling/shredding just from me tightening my shoe, are you having this same problem? I'd love a response 🙏❤

just an off topic question. does wearing a heavy shoe improve your cycling at all though? what if i add like 500g ankle weights on each leg or something?

I have a pair and they are definitely not made for rocky trails. If you step on a rock in the right angle the carbon will easily start fraying. My next pair of shoes will be something that has more rubber protection of the carbon.

Bontrager Espresso shoes had 2 bolt cleat drilling. They resembled road shoes, but had a channel recessed for the cleats. A less aggressive tread and a good compromise of stiffness and walkable properties. They now have cleats mounted proud of the soles, so why buy these for cycle touring anymore! Marketing!, What were they thinking! Smooth soles too!

For CX you need “scoops” or “spikes” in the front, like at Shimano’s XC shoes. RX shoes aren’t for cyclocross. For XC they would be ok.
