Today we are taking a FIRST LOOK at Giant Bicycles 2022 hardtail mountain bike offering. This will include bikes like the 2022 XTC Advance, Fathom, XTC SLR, and Talons. I have not looked at any of these before filming this video so we will go through the current line up together!

I went to my LBS and got a 2021 talon 2 few weeks ago .., because they had it in stock in my size … and they had 150 bikes on order some ordered 6 months ago …. I knew that with Christmas rush I may not be able to get one for a while

I got the fathom 2 29 and I love it, I was concerned about the 1x10 but it turned out to be a really solid option I rarely even use the 46t, also I changed the brakes for a pair of slx 7120 4 piston brakes Now it's a really badass bike

I know it's late, but in my country I don't have the 2023 or 2024 models yet so I'm goign to buy the 2022 one. I just have one question. Are the 29er wheels not too big? Because before buying a hardtail I had a road/offroad bike which had like 26er wheels, and was very good on offroad, so I'm not sure about the 29ers..

@@SaintLacke They are somewhat larger, but the geometry of the frame is well made, it feels like a big but solid and very comfortable bike.

I've also broken 3 XT shifters...I went with SLX and it's been solid for longer than the best XT shifter was (13 months)

I have a 2019 fathom. Removed the paint, left it raw. Mavic can pro carbon, descendant carbon cranks with dub of bb, renthal carbon stealth bars and renthal stem, magura mt5/7 brakes SRAM xo 11 speed shifter/derailleur, VHS slapper tape for chainstay, wolf tooth remote and one up dropper. Nothing original but the frame and the paint isn't even on it haha... My 141 rear is just fine! Oh yeah and fox 34 performance 130mm that I disassembled and painted the lowers with spray. Bike spray am aqua color with yellow decals. Pretty solid build and it's uniquely mine

@@MossieRidesBikes I definitely made it mine. After I lost myself, I found a bicycle... It gave me something like freedom different than a car and I found it very comforting to get out on and see things I otherwise wouldn't. I made it efficient and sturdy and upgraded over the course of three years. It's an art piece and yes it is cool looking... Great reviews btw👍🙋

I just went on Giant's site and i see they have a 2022 Fathom 1 model that comes in knights gray and has slightly different specs than the Teal version, but for the same price. can anyone tell me the differences between these 2 models? Is the Knights gray version just different specs due to supply chain issues?

I Just get the xtc 1 Aluminium great climbing bike but feel that the geometry is outdated 70 degrees ht dont work any more as soon you get the bike in anything steep and tech you feel like goin OTB,this frame would be super good is they slacken the ht at least 68 degrees

So glad i found a Giant fat bike i have a specialized fat boy but they stopped the fat boy and iv been looking for one as good as theres well Giant did it i think its actually better dont for get about Giant very very nice bikes right up there with specialized

you did review on XTC SLR a year ago. I know, because based on your review I preordered my XTC SLR1 2020 model. and that was in January of 2021 :) and man, I am so lucky you did that review and I ordered better version of those two bikes. I really love that bike. it climbs so well, like a goad, it has no problem with my 105kg body. I am really satisfied with it. plus, I was lucky that I didn't had issues with Cres fork. but I am surprised that there aren't any videos on servicing that fork, like you can find on basically any other fork. I hope Giant will release some spare parts for that fork soon-ish, at least after my warranty runs out, so I can service it my self later on. only two things I don't really like on that bike. remote for fork lockout, and grips. everything else is just fine for the price. plus, due to the issues in ordering/transport, my LBS had to use frame from XTC SLR 2, black one, and transfer components from model 1, so I have unique XTC SLR 1 model. I love the finishing on that bike, people think it's carbon, which is nice bonus. but I must say, I'd like to have Fathom too, but next year won't be a good one to buy one. maybe not even 2023. prices will go up, or components won't be as good as previous models, like we can see on Fathom 2 with 10 speed instead of 12 speed. keep up with the great work Mossie!

I’m new to the sport and I just purchased two Talon 1s for my Son and I. How much of an upgrade is the 2022 Fathom 2 and/or XTC SLR 29 2? Also which of them is the better bike, they are priced equally and I don’t know enough of the “bike tech” to make that choice on my own. PLEASE HELP

The easiest way to think of the difference between the fathom and the XTC is their application. I wouldn’t say one is better than the other. The XTC is intended to be a lighter XC machine that will climb like a goat whereas the fathom has a slacker head tube and more travel so I will be more stable on rougher descents

I was looking at the Merida Big Trail 500, the Specialized Fuse and the Giant Fathom 2... The latter one was the only one still available in my country this year. So, an easy decision, even though I think the other two are slightly better.

The 2022 Fathom 2 has Diore 1x10 ? The 2021 model has 1 x 12 (in the UK). Sounds like a step in the wrong direction, for more money no doubt... The 2 with 1 x 12 Shimano was seen as a better buy than the 1 with SX (albeit an NX derailleur). No problem with the Crest fork, quiet as a mouse.

It does... I just ordered a Fathom 2 yesterday. I was quite surprised to learn it now only has 10 gears. It's a shame. But hey, it's still better than no bike at all - which is what I got at Merida (I wanted a Big Trail 500, they told me it's sold out for the next TWO years!).

I have the 2022 fathom 29 2 . Two weeks in and the lockout no longer works! The crest 34 is a white elephant! Already wishing I didn’t buy this bike!

Correct, Giant put a statement out saying that they are no longer doing model years. I'm assuming that's because of the current supply chain issues. Some of the frames are technically the exact same (color and all). I just wish Giant would make the whole no model year thing more apparent
