We used to make Elderberry wine. It was renamed 'Falling down juice' by a neighbour of ours, who sat drinking it in the yard one evening. She appeared to have no issues with it, until she got up to go home, found she couldn't walk in the direction she was aiming, and ended up in the horse trough 🤣

Use the strawberry pulp to make strawberry wine jam. The alcohol burns off during the boiling process. I do this with the rhubarb I use to make rhubarb gin :-)
@janetm29693 жыл бұрын
The first wine I ever made, completely naive to the process :) was rose petal wine, with champagne yeast, and OMG! It was the best thing to ever hit my palette!! ❤ Silky, smooth... I followed that up with a herb wine, made with huge swaths of thyme, sage and lavender, anise and mint, cut from my garden, and infused in white grape juice. Again - more delicious than anything I've ever bought from a store!

Brilliant! Wonderfully demonstrated. I make ginger beer with ginger root with my own method and my opinion and other participant much nicer than Crabbies! I knew you were going to give the pulp to Fatso and Titch. I freeze the ginger beer pulp in ice trays and pop it in a curry when needed. Enjoy

If I ever had enough strawberries I'd love to try this. We made elderflower wine once and it was delicious. Make a mistake with elderberry wine and it was a disaster. If you want to get the juice from a lemon, without a juicer, as you are squeezing your lemon, use a fork as well and twist it as you squeeze. 🍋

My grandmother used to make some unusual wines. Dandelion wine was fairly common, so was rhubarb wine. However, she often had to bribe people to try her beet and potato wines. Apparently the were good since they always went back for more.

Very interesting indeed! As a side-note I was surprised at the unmelodiousness of your Irish magpies. The New Zealand ones go "Quardle oodle ardle wardle doodle" (the official noise that children are taught at pre-school). Perhaps you should import some musical New Zealand magpies for your small-holding to go along with your NZ pigs & NZ rabbits...

Hi mossy bottom, the lemon peels are the best if you cook them with sugar and water (Ottolenghi style but easy). And store them in a jar. Sprinkle this on your green leaves salad, carrot salad, any salad .. It gives a whole new dimension 😎👌🏻

Strawberry wine IS simply the best hedgerow wine. My addition to the fermentation vat is elderflower. If you think strawberry wine is great, well I'll let you decide. Really going to try the cinnamon addition, sounds amazing. I do use cinnamon to add complexity to apple wine. I've also use cloves and ginger in apple wines. But you have to add the spices after fermentation, as most pungent spices contain oils that are anti-bacterial and will kill the yeast. Thank you for another wonderful Mossy Video Bottom. ;-)

Thanks for the video. Other things you can do with strawberries...: Chips (dry strawberry slices on a baking tray covered with icing sugar at 60 ° in the oven with the door left ajar. For the even sweeter tooth dip the chips in chocolate or ganache). Vinegar (cut 250 g strawberries in pieces and mix them with 1 litre white wine vinegar - heat but not boil the mixture. rest it for 1 hour then press it through a fine sieve. Maybe add some small strawberry pieces. Put it in bottles, let it rest for 2 weeks before using it. Very tasty with every kind of salad.). I would also recommend a strawberry chutney. But as I recall you don't like anything too spicy or too flavoursome...

Hi, I really enjoyed your video. I was looking for a video on making natural wine and I found your channel. I make strawberry wine as natural as possible. I use fresh strawberries that I juice in a hot water juicer then lemon as my acid blend for the Ph. Then I add raisins that I ruff chop,that I use as the yeast nutrient. Also sugar and water. Like you I use wine stabilizer to kill bad bacteria and yeast at the end. This year is the first year I’m going to bottle the wine. My husband and I are planing to get a 1 acre property where we can have chickens . I look forward to watching an older video you have on making homes for your animals. Have a nice day, kindest regards,Louise. Ps. I don’t know if you will ever see this message because this video is a little bit older. Oh I forgot to say that I add steeped tea as wine tannin for mouth feel. That’s it. I think I add the same amount of sugar as you do. Super boozy.

Perhaps on the final step of adding sugar back, pour a small mount of mixture into a pan, add sugar, heat and stir until sugar melted and glassy, cool, then put into final mixture. Sugar doesn't mix well into cool water and maybe that cloudiness at the end is reduced (though the cloudiness doesn't bother me a bit). Cheers from Hollywood, CA.

In the states back in late 60’s early 70’s there was Boonesfarm Strawberry wine and to the teens of that time it was our first wine. We thought it was great😄. It was cheap which was the main reason. Of course as we got a little older it was nasty 🤢 🤣
