BYD Seagull was just released in Brazil with the long range version only (38kw battery) for around 22k usd (with the crazy high Brazil taxes). Ranges around 350km with full charge and the same full charge costs 5 usd to charge at home as electricity here is very cheap. Got mine as I live in a big city, so far a very reliable and comfortable car.

In the USA they seem to be glorified golf carts (the one with AC was nice though) and are locked at 25mph. Most of our rural roads are 30+ mph. These would only be good places that are set up to have golf carts and low speed vehicles like retirement communities.

Agree. None of these cars are affordable for me or anyone I know. I would like a pedal bike that had EV motor assist that would go at least 45 MPH and cost less than USD $10,000. Until those parameters are met, there isn't going to be much interest in EVs and Velomobiles, except in rural areas where people can slowly limp along semi-safely.

The problem I see with these mini EV's is that they are either better used as a neighborhood car in the US and never any further than the suburbs because they are either too slow, or have to little range to be helpful for anything but maybe the short drive to and from work, but never leaving town. I mean it seems great for reducing the need for the fuel powered vehicle to those times that you have to go outside of town. Don't get me wrong, it would be nice to get some of the Chinese options where I am, on the grounds that I could have a car with minimal upkeep for a quarter of the cost of even the cheapest of cars available.

U.S. listed E.V. are not cars but toys. You missed a 1000 miles range small two seat E.V. in California called Aptera probably marketed at competent price. All other cars from all listed nations are not going to survive because they are box like. Boxes creates a lot of drag and therefore their driving range will be significantly reduced. Gasoline powered cars are build to be box like on purpose so that consumption of gasoline will be high and frequent for the benefit of those who sell oil (You cannot get rich quickly by have a slow demand). In E.V. case, you do not want that do you? We want to safe our planet and our wallets. The only good thing about those E.V. is that they are low mass cars and one from India PMV got it right because they made that car narrow. The narrower car the less front drag, plus most cars are driven by one person. So it is a good start.

Look at this. There's a point that borders on misinformation because it leads to people inferring that US citizens, as a whole, have never been fans of small cars. The reality is that the MG Midget, Opel GT, Chevy Chevette, Geo Metro, and a host of other small cars have many fans who would love to own one or more of these small cars. There are mini motorcycles like the Grom that might imply an interest in transportation that you can fit on the back of a flatbed pickup truck. Bring tiny cars into the US and have them be suitable for long and short drives and you will see a surge in downsizing of cars. You can keep your 5000-pound trucks and 4000-pound cars. Give me something that I can park sideways in a regular parking space or nose-in at a curb and I'll show you a cult following that exceeds that of the Grom as long as it can maintain 70mph for 100 miles or more. Most owners just want it to be priced fairly. It's the $30000 price tag for a micro car whose back seat is just wasted weight that makes these cars undesirable. The Fiat 500 is a poorly-thought-out, impractical POS. It's just that simple. If it didn't look cool, I wouldn't have bought one and tossed the back seats into a dumpster. Even so, I regret buying it. The turbo diverter valve is junk. The wiring for the tag lights is dangerously thin. The simple act of making a turbo version amounts to asking for engine failures. Electric microcars whose design makes sense will sell in the US. Our regulations are what causes the failure of the microcar segment in the US. If they aren't LSVs, they aren't allowed to be small. If they are small, they aren't allowed to be practical. If they use a lot of fuel, they have to be big. Regulations are not well thought out in the US unless they were designed to force people to buy what they don't want. I want something like the Electra Meccanica Solo but I'd pay as much as $12k for a Silence 04. The problem is that it's not going to be so affordable if it comes to the US in the L7 version.
@TechCharge20 күн бұрын
Wow, you’ve put a LOT of thought into this, and honestly, I’m here for it. The part about regulations forcing people to buy what they don’t want really hits home. I mean, why can’t we have something practical, efficient, AND affordable? Do you think it’s just a cultural thing, or is it really the auto industry lobbying against small cars? Also, what’s your dream microcar? Something that doesn’t exist yet or one of the current models that just needs a few tweaks?
