That's a totally disrespectful answer, the proper way to go about this is: "I am sorry, can you repeat the question?" That way, you don't make people look like idiot. The kid did a AmA on Reddit, that day changed his life because his question got basically shut down and filed under "cringe". He was nervous and stumbled upon his words, that "what!?" was totally uncalled for.
